DIRECTORY 2023

According to Annex II of the MARPOL Convention, slobs from oil tanks or oil-contaminated water must be treated for further processing. Port reception facilities must recycle these slobs as quickly and efficiently as possible so that seagoing vessels do not lose time. To meet the needs of the shipping industry, WVT Industries has developed specific demulsifiers in order to treat each sludge (oil/water mixture) optimally.
In 'Q03', WVT Industries has developed a highly effective and environmentally friendly demulsifier, specially designed for the shipping industry.
Q03 significantly optimises oil-water separation and allows processing costs to be greatly reduced: Demulsifier Q03 replaces the use of costly centrifuge applications. It reduces the treatment time to less than 12 hours, allowing larger volumes to be treated in a shorter time.
As standard, the water-in-oil emulsion is heated to about 90°C before a demulsifier is added. Demulsifier Q03, however, is added at 60°C, resulting in drastic energy savings.
Slobs within the shipping industry are a water-in-oil emulsion or oil-in-water emulsion whose stability is highly dependent on the water content.
By adding Demulsifier Q03 to this in combination with an elevated temperature, the water-in-oil content is drastically reduced and this, in most scenarios, to < 1% water. This implies a higher calorific fuel value of the processed oil with an increased combustion quality and sales value.
Typically, the recommended Demulsifier Q03 dosage varies between 500 and 1500 ppm to the total amount of the oil-in-water emulsion or water-in-oil emulsion.
In order to determine the correct and most appropriate demulsifier, WVT Industries analyses these emulsions (slobs) in its own laboratory and then provides the appropriate recommendations through a comprehensive analysis so that each stream can be treated in the most cost-effective manner.
• Cost savings with regard to dosages
• Higher value due to less water: <1% water in oil
• Treatment time is less than 12 hours
• High calorific oil value and increased combustion quality
• High trade-in value of recycled oil
• Saves energy costs
• Meets the requirements of MARPOL Convention Annexe II
• Strong ash reduction (>5%, after treatment <0.1%

Dear readers, Today, more than ever, the maritime sector is committed to decarbonisation and sustainability. Responsible for 80% of the world trade, the sector plays a critical role in our economies and has a strong responsibility regarding the marine environment.
Much has been done thanks to the initiative of the International Maritime Organisation and the European Institutions. The shift from fossil fuels and the development of alternative sources of energy are probably the most significant change. It will take some time for generalisation, but the path has been laid out. Alternative fuels are one part of the decarbonisation effort. However, decarbonisation does not cover only the fuel issue but the whole life cycle from the production of vessels to their dismantling, including waste management.
Port reception facilities, in other words, “MARPOL companies”, play their role in this global process. Ship waste contributes to pollution of the seas and that should not happen. We now have the capacity and technology to collect all waste at ports and provide the opportunity to transform this waste into a resource.
EUROSHORE INTERNATIONAL members strongly believe in the ZERO WASTE PRINCIPLE. Dilution has never been a solution in terms of waste management. The quantities of waste linked to the density of traffic suggests an unacceptable impact on the environment.
All members of EUROSHORE INTERNATIONAL receive waste which can be recycled. Port reception facilities have become CIRCULAR ECONOMY MAKERS. Our association pleads for the development of adequate port reception facilities all over the world. It is the responsibility of the States to put them in place. In some areas it is difficult to propose full services for all types of waste because quantities received are too marginal. Necessary investments are important as onboard equipment will never eliminate all contaminants. This should prompt discussion on the relevant policies we need in order to protect our oceans.
For that reason, we decided to create this Directory. It is the first edition and thanks to the support we have received regarding the content, we will be able to provide regular updates.
All our members are engaged with the circular economy model, and we hope that more will join us to inspire others to support this important initiative.
I would like to particularly thank my predecessor, Carlos Cardoso, who devoted time to the preparation of this Directory and all members who contributed to make it happen. I hope you will find it useful for contacting port reception facilities when arriving at ports. Turning waste into a resource and preserving the marine environment are our shared responsibility.
I am looking forward to collaborating with you in this respect.
Yours sincerely,

EUROSHORE INTERNATIONAL was created in 1998 by a group of port reception facilities from The Netherlands and Belgium.
Over the years other members have joined, some left or merged with others, always keeping in mind the tremendous role they play for the marine environment, serving the shipping industry and helping it to meet their environmental requirements.
The main idea of the association was to exchange good practices and promote modern port reception facilities using the best practices and the latest technologies.
Today EUROSHORE became EUROSHORE INTERNATIONAL with members in 18 countries on 4 continents.
Consolidation is now one of the key drivers.

The easy answer would be that it is a port facility collecting waste from ships.
It is true. Port reception facilities can even be called MARPOL companies. They collect waste as agreed to within the IMO MARPOL Convention 73/78 and its different annexes over the years, which gradually enlarged the range of prohibited waste into the seas

Nowadays Port Reception Facilities are definitely more. They are CIRCULAR ECONOMY MAKERS! They provide global and innovative solutions for ship waste management of all MARPOL waste, should it be liquid or solid.

You may be a small family company acting locally, a bigger group with many port reception facilities in one country or even in different countries. More than you may realise, you have common denominators. Everyday, you contribute to fighting the pollution of our oceans, you contribute to the improved health of coastal populations, you help shipowners to meet their environmental commitments without causing delays for international trade, you transform waste into resources at a time when we have realised that they are not unlimited. This makes your business unique.
In our meetings you can exchange views and experiences on good practice with similar companies from different regions. It is also the opportunity to inform members of the latest legal developments for your sector or activity.
Often, we find new legislation is very difficult, if not impossible, to implement. This is why we attach such importance to continuous dialogue with decision makers from all regions. We have strong historical links at European level. We now need to join forces internationally to support our continual development. We have only one earth. By working together, we can contribute to safeguarding it.
Authorized PRF for the Port of Lisbon. We provide full engineering and construction (turnkey) for PRF, either modular (the exclusive M-Concept) or fixed. Hazardous waste treatment solutions. Tank cleaning.
The M-CONCEPT is a technical solution ready to use as a Port Reception Facility, able to treat all kind of oily waste from MARPOL collection.

Part of a large European network in hazardous waste, TWZ Group has 6 operational sites in Belgium and about 100 employees, treating 400.000 tonnes per year of various waste.
Our port reception facility is located in the centre of the port of Ghent and is licensed to accept marine waste. Both seagoing and inland vessels can moor at our own landing stage.
The port reception facility contains facilities for the reception, storage and treatment of effluents from the ship, such as wash water mixed with (oil) cargo residues. In addition, companies, for example from the chemical industry, can supply their waste streams by sea.
The collection of ship waste can also be carried out by road transport so that the ships do not have to be moved (e.g. after loading the cargo).
If desired, the ship’s cargo area can also be cleaned by a professional cleaning team. These cleanings should be pre-registered with the last loading. The water from these cleanings will be treated in our own water treatment plant.

Our Oil Recycling Facility at Blexen reprocesses oil-water mixtures and waste oil from shipping and industrial processes.
Distilling produces an oil product suitable for a variety of uses as a heavy fuel substitute. After separation of residual hazardous substances, the aqueous phase is treated at our own wastewater plant and discharged into the sewage canal.
The entire process involves only thermal, physical, and biological processes — without any chemical additives, a fact that we are particularly proud of. Our system protects the environment in two ways: by using fewer scarce resources and by generating no hazardous waste.
