READING AND LEEDS Reading and Leeds announces even more acts 28 March, 2018: Reading and Leeds Festival today revealed even more new music acts to join the bill across the two sites over August bank holiday weekend (24 – 26 August) this year, as well as the first raft of world-class comedy acts who will also be appearing. Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, Death From Above, The Used, Lady Leshurr and Yxng Bane are just some of the new names added, while Harry Hill, Seann Walsh and Mo Gilligan are among the first comedy acts announced. They’ll be performing alongside Kings of Leon, Kendrick Lamar, Fall Out Boy and Panic! at the Disco at the famous Richfield Avenue and Bramham Park. Tickets are on-sale right now and available here. Mike Shinoda - founding member of legendary rock band Linkin Park - will play exclusive festival shows at Reading and Leeds Festivals this Summer. Fans can expect a mixture of material new and old including the Post Traumatic EP and new music to be released later this year. The Reading and Leeds shows are sure to be unmissable special sets. Haslemere-born prodigy Rex Orange County makes alternative pop that weaves together the epic fantasy of teenage love with the mundane reality of teenage life, he joins the line up along with Maryland’s most exciting export, the artful and hypnotic Maggie Rogers, Sydney based rock band DMA’S and Sam Fender, who mixes gritty vocals with world class production – imbuing his nascent indie anthems with an acerbic bite. Exciting alt-rock concept Dinosaur Pile-Up who hail from Leeds itself join the Reading and Leeds bill for a triumphant hometown set as well as one down south, with the likes of hardcore punk outfit Blood Youth, King Nun, Bloxx and more all affirming our love for British rock acts right now. A world-class music festival, however, needs a global line-up and the latest raft of names does not disappoint. Canadian rock heroes Death From Above will be on hand to represent this year, whilst Scandi garage rock outfit Royal Republic also join. Possibly the most exciting alternative outfit from Bologna in recent years Husky Loops are also signed up, as well as Australian alt-rockers Chase Atlantic, Nashville indie-poppers Coin, Utah’s noughties rock legends The Used and St Albans pop-punk band Trash Boat.
Opening the main stage at Reading only will be internet sensation Big Shaq and Friends. Elsewhere, Lady Leshurr – London rapper, singer and producer extraordinaire – makes her return to Richfield Avenue and Bramham Park this year. Croydon’s latest R&B export, Hardy Caprio, joins to showcase his talents and prove himself worthy of the critical acclaim he has garnered lately. Yxng Bane – shortlisted on almost every ‘one to watch’ list for 2018 – also joins to take the crowd through streaming smashes such as ‘Rihanna’. Protoje, Suspect, Sneakbo, Ocean Wisdom, Skengdo x AM and more also feature. It isn’t stopping there. Comedy is an essential part of Reading and Leeds Festivals and today the first wave of funny acts has been announced. TV star, comedian and one of the most recognisable faces in the country, Harry Hill will be bringing his wacky, surreal stand-up to the Alternative Stage this year. Joel Dommett, Seann Walsh, social media star Mo Gilligan as well as ‘King of the Council Estate’ Lee Nelson will also take to our stage. We also have the most exciting rising stars: The Sun’s Best New Comedian winner Tom Lucy will be there, plus fresh and fierce stand-up star, Lauren Pattison. ‘Man’s Not Hot’ rapper/comedy star Big Shaq will also be making a very special comedy appearance at Leeds Festival only. As if that wasn’t enough, 23 Unofficial, Alma, A2, A-Trak, Adz and Lb, BØRNS, Black Futures, Black Peaks, Bobii Lewis, Brunswick, Bryn, Demob Happy, DJ Semtex (Reading Only), DJ Target, Easy Life, Ebenezer, Ecca Vandal, Fekky, Hak Baker, Headie One, Hex, Hippo Campus, I Don’t Know How But They Found Me, Isaac Gracie, Izzie Gibbs, Lady Bird, Last Night In Paris, Man With A Mission, Marsicans, Mason Maynard, Metz, Nines, Normandie, Otherkin, Petrol Girls, Pretty Vicious, Rae Morris, Shvpes, Skindred, Skinny Girl Diet, Sleep Token, Spector, Spring King, Steel Banglez, Sunflower Bean, Teenage Wrist, The Joy Formidable, Ten Tonnes, The Faim, The Xcerts, Touts, West Thebarton, Wyvern Lingo and Yungblud were also announced as Reading and Leeds music appearances this summer.

RACE FOR LIFE Brand new race for life events in Leeds this summer to beat cancer sooner
LEEDS will have a bumper Race for Life weekend this summer, with two brand new events on offer from Cancer Research UK. Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is an inspiring women-only series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy, Half Marathon and Hiking events which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer sooner by funding vital research. On Saturday 2nd June and Sunday 3rd June Pretty Muddy Kids and a Trial Half Marathon will join the existing Race for Life family of events at Temple Newsam in Leeds - the traditional 5k, along with 10k and Pretty Muddy courses - providing a wider choice so participants of all ages and abilities can choose their own challenge to help beat cancer sooner. For the first time, Leeds girls and boys are being invited to get muddy for a good cause, by taking part in Pretty Muddy Kids. It is a new exciting obstacle course designed just for children - with added mud, thrills and spills. Also new to Leeds this year is Race for Life’s Trail Half Marathon. The 13.1 mile route will take women on a picturesque route through the Temple Newsam Park estate. It will be a varied course
over a mixture of hills, grass, forest tracks and paved roads, taking in even more of the beautiful countryside around the House. Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work relies on the public’s support. Thanks to the generosity of its supporters, the charity was able to spend over £3 million last year in Leeds on some of the UK’s leading scientific and clinical research - helping more men, women and children survive. To find your nearest event and enter Race for Life today visit raceforlife.org or call 0300 123 0770.

SUKHOTHAI Award winning restaurant group launch first new menu in 15 years
One of the first Thai restaurants to open in Leeds has changed its menu - for the first time in 15 years.
“Thai food was virtually unknown in the UK when we opened in 2002 so I wanted to bring over every flavour from all corners of Thailand.”
Since executive chef and owner, Ban Kaewkraikhot, came to Leeds and opened her first Sukhothai Restaurant in Chapel Allerton, the menu has stayed the same.
Firm favourites such as Pad Thai and Satays will stay on the menu but the new menu will see more vegetarian dishes, Issan inspired sauces that originated in North Eastern Thailand and a more refined selection of salads, stir-fries and desserts. Ban added: “the new menu was six months in the making and we’ve decided on around 20 new dishes.”
But it seems to have gone down well with Thai food fans as Ban expanded her empire to not only include the Sukhothai Restaurants, but also Zaap Thai - employing around 300 people. Now she is refining the menu - offering a much more polished selection. She says it is to bring the fresh flavours that have emerged in Thai cooking over the past 15 years to leeds. However, there were some dishes that simply had to stay. Ban said: “we are still keeping a lot of our signature dishes for our loyal customers but changing others to reflect the change in Thai food over the last 15 years.
“I wanted to introduce new elements that people wouldn’t have tried before - there is a lot more to thai food and i can’t wait to share with everyone.” Sukhothai have built their stellar reputation with an extensive menu, and never jumping on food trends or bandwagons, instead sticking to the fundamentals and doing them exceptionally. They are also meeting the increased demand for vegetarian food with some seriously exciting veggie dishes. The new menu launched spring 2018, and has so far been a hit with Leeds foodies.

TETLEY BAR & KITCHEN The Tetley Bar & Kitchen offers a warm Yorkshire welcome
The Tetley Bar & Kitchen offers a warm Yorkshire welcome with all the profits going directly to supporting our artistic programme. Located on the ground floor of the former Tetley Headquarters, where better to enjoy a pint of Tetley’s than where it was born nearly 200 years ago? We believe in product quality, supporting small business and great taste. Our menu is freshly prepared and our North Star Roast coffee is freshly ground to order – if you’re not a coffee drinker we of course have Yorkshire Tea, or loose-leaf tea supplied by The Bird House Tea Co. At the beginning of this year, we launched a new menu that we believe reflects the history and personality of our building’s heritage but also the use of the building as a contemporary art gallery. The ethos of the new menu is all about sociability, spending time with friends, colleagues and family. Visit our latest free exhibition, or take part in a family art workshop and then come to the Bar & Kitchen and no matter what time of day you can get sociable food. Whether that’s our new
small plates, all priced at £5, which are made for sharing, our fantastic Sunday Roasts or our new extended brunch menu, it’s all about having great conversation in a relaxed environment in our cosy Bar & Kitchen. We also have a large sun terrace which gives great views of the sunset of the Brewery Green, alongside an interactive sculpture, ‘The Sun Shines Every Day Forever’ that’s great to keep children entertained. There’s something for everyone here at The Tetley.
