Estimated number of people ordered to evacuate Florida. Potentially the largest evacuation in US history.

Number of people that lost power across Florida

The top strength, in miles per hour, of Irma’s maximum sustained winds (dropped to 135mph when it hit the US).

Paso County was one of only a few counties in Florida to have minimal power outages. How and why that is we're not quite sure.

Percentage of all buildings that Irma damaged when it hit Barbuda as a Category 5 hurricane.

Estimated number of people evacuated from the Bahamas, the largest in its history.

More than 20 million people in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina will be subject to wind gusts over 75 mph.

Integrated Measures of Hurricane Irma • Generated THE MOST Accumulated Cyclone Energy by a tropical cyclone on record in the tropical Atlantic (7.5-20°N, 60-20°W). • Generated MORE Accumulated Cyclone Energy than the first eight named storms of the Atlantic hurricane season (Arlene-Harvey) combined. • Generated THE MOST Accumulated Cyclone Energy in a 24hour period on record, breaking old record set by Allen (1980). • Had a number of 67.5 Accumulated Cyclone Energy units so far – THE 2ND MOST by an Atlantic hurricane in satellite era (since 1966) – trailing only Ivan (70.4). • Generated enough Accumulated Cyclone Energy to satisfy NOAA ACE definition for an AVERAGE ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON. • Generated MORE Accumulated Cyclone Energy than 17 entire Atlantic hurricane seasons in the satellite era (since 1966).

HARVEY & IRMA TO BE $290 BILLION It has been a destructive and costly hurricane season, following the historic impacts from Hurricane Harvey and now Hurricane Irma. This is the first time in the history of record keeping that two Category 4 or higher hurricanes, Harvey and Irma, have struck the U.S. mainland in the same year. Many people, however, don’t know how much exercise they should get or which foods are the best choices. They also may not realize there are other ways to take care of their bodies and minds to promote better overall health. muscle mass or weight loss. Regular exercise can also contribute to mental well-being, and even something as simple as a walking break or two at work can provide health benefits.

SEPTEMBER 2017

Get enough sleep. Sleep plays a vital role in good health and well-being, and can help improve your mental health, physical health and quality of life. The National Sleep Foundation recommends 7-9 hours per night for adults and 9-11 hours for school-aged children. If you find sleep elusive, try implementing a bedtime routine to send signals to your body that it’s time to sleep, avoid screen time immediately before lights out and eliminate caffeine after lunch.

Manage stress. Between juggling a career, family and other commitments, it’s easy to find things to stress over. Practices such as meditation and yoga can help better manage stress. Setting aside time for a favorite hobby can also help relieve stress and focus on an activity you enjoy. Aside from mental and emotional impacts, stress can also impact your physical health, so it’s important to identify coping mechanisms that reduce overall stress.

Be social. Making time to socialize with friends and family is an important part of living a long and healthy life. Even if your schedule is packed, try to block out time at least once a week to spend with family and friends.

Break bad habits. Whatever their nature, work to break bad habits by first acknowledging the problem then working to replace the negativity with alternatives that make a more positive impact on your life. Even a negative attitude can bring you down. To discover more ways to make healthy lifestyle choices, visit

MAKE BETTER FOOD CHOICES Maintaining a healthy diet can be easier than you think if you make your eating habits a priority and know how to make smart food choices. For the best results, choose foods from all five major food groups with help from these tips:

Fruits and vegetables Fruits and vegetables are naturally low in fat and contain necessary fiber, vitamins and minerals. Rather than serving fruits with cream cheese or sugary sauces, opt for nut butters or Nice! organic honey, and toss raw, steamed, boiled or baked vegetables in olive oil, salt and pepper instead of buttery sauces.

Protein Select low-fat, lean cuts of meat and season them with herbs, spices and low-sodium marinades. Baking, broiling, grilling and roasting are the healthiest preparation methods. Try swapping ground beef for a lean or extra-lean cut, or opt for ground chicken or turkey instead. Non-meat protein options such as dry beans, peas and lentils can even be swapped for meat in recipes such as lasagna or chili.

Dairy Choose skim or non-dairy milk, like soy, rice or almond milk, and use low-fat or part-skim cheeses in recipes. Nonfat or Greek yogurt can replace sour cream in many recipes and SEPTEMBER 2017

options like sherbet and soft-serve frozen yogurt are lower in fat than ice cream.

Grains Choose products that list whole grains as the first ingredient, as they are low in fat and high in fiber. Some easy swaps include whole-grain flour, pasta and rice, as well as bypassing doughnuts and pastries for English muffins or bagels and opting for unsalted pretzels instead of potato chips. Add some variety with tasty organic items such as Nice! flavored popcorns and tortilla chips.

Fats, oils and sweets Too many high-fat foods can add excess calories to your diet, which can lead to weight gain and obesity, or increase your risk for certain health issues. However, a small amount of heart-healthy fat is actually good for you. When it comes to sweets, fig bars and gingersnaps make for healthy alternatives to cookies. Also beware of calorie-laden condiments and opt for nonfat and light mayonnaise and salad dressings instead. WESLEY CHAPEL MAGAZINE 15

of experience working with clients to find what works best for each individual, so you are sure to be beneath good hands. Waxing is provided as well, both in the form of hot wax and strip wax. Bliss provides waxing services for any part of the body, using Waxxxpress Products to ensure the smoothest possible results without the usual irritation that comes with body waxes. It is also gentle enough to use on the most sensitive and delicate areas, in order to make the process as painless as it can be. In the event you might like to add hair to your body rather than removing it, Bliss has eyelash extensions available to meet your everyday glamour needs. Eyelash extensions give your lashes a longer, fuller look on the daily, without the hassle of applying mascara. Extensions are applied individually, by the process of gluing them to your existing eyelashes one by one with tweezers. As a result, your existing eyelashes are extended to give a lush, elegant look to your eyes. Lash extensions from Bliss are waterproof, and don’t come as a one size fits all – the technicians at Bliss will assist in helping you find the look that fits you best, from natural to stunning. So, the next time you're looking for a makeover, drop in for a visit at Wesley Chapel's one-stop shop for everything beauty. Bliss is committed to ensuring the satisfaction, confidence and health of every customer, whatever their need may be. Even if you're not sure exactly what that need is in your case, any member of the friendly staff at Bliss would be happy to provide advice and recommendations. After all, when you're looking your best, you're sure to be feeling your best, and that makes for a happier community overall.

Recipe by: Denise Goodman "Simply a quick recipe for tasty guacamole! Great with tortilla chips or as a topping for Mexican foods!"

2 avocados 1 small onion finely chopped 1 clove garlic minced 1 ripe tomato, chopped 1 lime, juiced salt and pepper to taste Peel and mash avocados in a medium serving bowl. Stir in onion, garlic, tomato, lime juice, salt and pepper. Season with remaining lime juice and salt and pepper to taste. Chill for half an hour to blend flavors.

True or False?

The best way to tell if an avocado is ripe is to squeeze it. Yes, this is a good way to determine ripeness, but it’s also a good way to mistake a bruised avocado for a ripe one. While avocados do get softer as they ripen, squeezing to determine ripeness is not always best. You bruise the fruit by squeezing it, and a previously bruised fruit can also be mistaken for a ripe one this way. Our preferred method for identifying a ripe avocado is to try to flick the small stem off the fruit. If it comes off easily and you can see green underneath it, the avocado is ripe. If it does not come off or you see brown underneath, the avocado is not yet ripe, or it’s overripe and therefore unusable.

1 dozen hard boiled eggs, peeled and halved 1/4 cup Greek yogurt or sour cream 2 ripe avocados, peeled and pit removed 1 Tbsp fresh lime juice 1 tsp kosher salt 1/2 tsp pepper 1/4 cup minced cilantro 2 tomatillos, husked , rinsed and cut in half 1. Cut eggs in half lengthwise; carefully remove yolks. Place yolks in a mixing bowl. Place whites on a serving platter and set aside. 2. Add yogurt, avocados, lime juice, salt, pepper, cilantro and tomtaillos into the mixing bowl with the yolks. Using an immersion blender, blend until smooth. (If you don’t have an immersion blender, place all ingredients into a regular blender and blend until smooth). 3. Spoon the avocado-egg mixture into the cavities of the egg whites.

easons. Season can be defined as "a time characterized by a particular circumstance or feature". Just as we have seasons in our lives, we have seasons in fashion too. Depending on the season of life we are in, there is a direct correlation with the way we dress. In fashion, there are four seasons: Spring/ Summer, Fall/Winter, Resort and PreFall. The two major seasons, however,

are Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. Spring/Summer starts in January and runs until June and Fall/Winter runs from July to December. Stores are already receiving fall merchandise when it's still summer heat and hotter than heck here in Florida. This is a tactic used to maximize sales. Fashion trends are typically forecasted a year in advance so companies are already hard at work on constructing

"As long as I feel good, that's what's important."

new trends in the colors of the year long before the weather ever changes. If you follow fashion you will dress the part during the season. Spring and summer calls for bright and colorful articles of clothing. Shorts, tank tops, maxi dresses and flip flops are staples. Whereas, fall calls for darker, more neutral colors such as black, gray and brown worn with booties or boots. Layers come into play in the cooler months such as scarves and a vest or bomber jacket over a long sleeve shirt. In life, we go through many seasons. Seasons of happiness and seasons of sadness, seasons of busyness and seasons of rest, seasons of victory and seasons of fear. No matter what season we are in, if we still look our best and put our best foot forward, we will survive any storm. Just as things in our life change, if we are women who continually pursue growth and learning, our personalities, our views, our friends & our fashion sense change along with us. With age comes wisdom and with wisdom comes less vanity. It took me a long time to get to the point where I've learned that my life is not to impress others and therefore I've became less vein. As long as I feel good, that's what's important. My style has reflected that and now I dress for comfort. Back in the day, I would never leave the house without heels because I wanted to appear taller and skinnier. Now, I rarely ever leave the house in anything other than flats. And my feet are definitely thanking me for it! Our mood determines a lot about how we dress. We all have a certain "style" of dress such as "boho", "trendy" or "conservative". No matter what the season is if I'm having a "down day" you will find me in a tank top and pair of Lululemon leggings, hair in a bun with only blush & lip gloss on. When people are sad or unhappy they tend to care about their appearance less. They usually dress frumpier, typically in darker colors. I rarely ever wear black. It doesn't make me feel as joyful and happy as color does. Color always brightens up the day! Over the years and through the seasons people's style change. Much of this is due to body changes such as SEPTEMBER 2017

losing or gaining weight or just getting older and dressing more modest. Hopefully none of my readers have clothes from the 80's in their closet still?? If so, that season is longgggg gone. Do yourself a favor and update your wardrobe with current, in style trends. This is totally attainable without breaking the budget and it's amazing how new clothes can completely lift your mood. If you can afford it, hire a stylist to come into your home and do a "closet makeover" and then go shopping with you so you can learn what styles and colors look good for your body type.

"Dress to impress YOU because that's who truly matters." Every season I typically purchase a few new shirts, shoes and jeans that follow the trend of that season and then use items already in my closest from previous seasons to mix and match and layer with. Of course, owing a jewelry business definitely keeps me on top of all the latest jewelry and accessory trends! If you didn’t read my article from last month, tassels will be the hottest jewelry trend this fall, followed by feathers. Since I'm in the fashion industry I'm always looking forward to the next season to see what colors and trends will be hot. Right now I'm in a season of comfort, clothing-wise, and self discovery, life-wise. Just like seasons in weather, the season of life we're in will determine our fashion look. How we feel directly relates to how we present our self every time we leave our house. Our mood of the day determines how we decide to dress each morning as we stand in our closet, staring, thinking "what do I feel like wearing today?". Different seasons our placed in our life to test us and challenge us. Some days I feel fab and the way I look put together and go out into the world will reflect that. Other days I feel not-so-fab which is when you’ll see me in workout pants (even though I don’t work out!) and one of my HOT MESS EXPRESS tanks! Whatever season you are in, don’t dress to impress others. Make sure you are comfortable in what you’re wearing so you can put your best foot forward and seize the day. Adding accessories to any outfit will automatically make you look more put together. Dress to impress YOU because that's who truly matters. Fashion isn't about being like everyone else, it is about be fabulously, confidently YOU. What are you waiting on? Go get dressed and leave your house EVERY day knowing you're making the world a brighter, happier place. Spread light and love. xoxo Rachel

search suggests that weight loss is not about an isolated person deciding to cut calories,” says Dr. Weitzman. “If we want to overcome the U.S epidemic of obesity, as well as the associated health problems, we have to understand broader concepts like wellness and accountability. Most people won’t do this on their own. They need training and ongoing support.” The Medi-Weightloss Clinic program is designed by experts for each individual patient in every area of health and wellness. With a proven plan in place, patients are encouraged and given the direction they need in order to reach their goal weight and transition to a healthier lifestyle. READ WHAT OUR LUTZ PATIENTS ARE SAYING ABOUT US. Emilee states; “Before Medi-Weightloss Clinic, I tried several different weight loss programs and none seemed to efficiently work, until now. Medi was extremely easy to follow and has been working so well. The best part about the program is that I do not feel tired through the day. I would recommend Medi to anyone.” Erin turned to Medi-Weightloss Clinic for help. “At first I was reluctant, thinking I would fail as I had in other plans,” Erin remembers. “Medi-Weightloss Clinic was different. I liked that it is medically supervised, and they worked with me on a weekly basis so it was easy to stick

to the plan” Erin has kept over 100 pounds off for over 3 years. Holly says, “One of my favorite quotes is”, “Just know when you truly want success, you’ll never give up on it, no matter how bad the situation may get”- by unknown. Medi @ Lutz/Wesley Chapel has allowed me to achieve success not only in my weight loss, but a healthy lifestyle they help create for me. Going through any weight loss process is hard. There are so many bumps along the road, but with determination and constant encouragement from the staff, I was able to achieve my goals!” “My wife’s friend told her about Medi-Weightloss Clinic,” says Joe, Director of Operations for Boston Market. After several failed attempts at other diets, I had little hope that this one would work. Boy was I wrong. I lost 13 pounds the first week! This kept me motivated to keep trying, and week after week, I kept losing more weight. In just 5 months I reached my goal of 80 pounds lost. I feel great. I could not have achieved this goal if it wasn’t for the motivation and support I received and still receive from the staff at Medi-Weightloss Clinic.

A Little Dirt Never Hurt: Getting Kids Outside to Play

here are lots of fun games for kids to play outside and other ways to include the outdoors into your children’s everyday activities. To help inspire you, the health experts at Envolve, an integrated healthcare solutions company share a few tips to encourage your little ones to move playtime to the outdoors and enjoy some fresh air.

for your kids to enjoy. For the youngsters, you may need to set up a fence to make boundaries clear. Remove all dangerous items that you wouldn’t want your kids to taste or touch. If playground equipment isn’t an option, don’t stress. Give children time to explore, and nature will provide them with plenty of entertainment.

1. Provide Options. Struggling to get the kids off the couch? Give them a couple of possibilities when choosing an activity outside. Making children feel like they are in control of the situation is key. Children – like most of us – can be more inclined to do something if they feel they were a part of the decision making process. Create a bucket list with different fun activities and games for kids to play outside, and help them check things off as the year goes on!

4. Enjoy Play – Rain or Shine! Encourage your kids to play outside, even on wet and rainy days! A pair of rubber rain boots and old clothes go a long way. Don’t be afraid to join in on the fun. If your children see you splashing around and getting a little rugged, then they’re more likely to enjoy the mess!

2. Take Toys. Bringing your child’s favorite indoor items to the backyard is an easy way to make playing more exciting. Pack up the dolls, building blocks, or costumes and take them outside to see what can happen with a change of scenery. 3.

Make It Friendly. Make sure your outdoor space is safe

5. The More the Merrier! Make it a play date by inviting some of your children’s friends over. Try and set up a weekly schedule to give them something to look forward to. Providing children time to interact with one another is a great way to help develop their social skills. And bringing together more minds can help expand their imaginations and creativity, resulting in more fun games for kids to play outside! Envolve, Inc.® is a family of health solutions, working together to make healthcare simpler, more effective and more accessible for everyone. SEPTEMBER 2017
