BASEBALL/SOFTBALL

New Sweetees Offering!

For the first time in the 10-year history of the Wesley Chapel Athletic Association’s Baseball/Softball program, we are pleased to introduce a new division in Girls’ Softball: The ‘Sweetees’. This division is specifically designed for girls aged 4-6 years old for the opportunity to play the game of softball with other girls their same age and skill level. WCAA has a lot to offer the children of the area; however a true T-ball division just for these young “Sweetees” was previously not available to them. Prior to this season, young girls who registered were placed on a T-ball team with

mostly boys. Each season, WCAA would only have 4-5 girls registered to play. Now that has all changed… Last Spring season Scott King and Michelle Perez decided it was time to open registration for Girl’s T-ball.

If you have a daughter of any age that might be interested in playing Softball at WCAA, please visit us online at http://www.leaguelineup. com/ wcaa or you can reach us via email at softball@wcaasports.org .

Based on the low number of girls previously playing in that age group, WCAA had no idea what to expect in terms of registration numbers. The goal was to hopefully be able to field at least two teams with six players each. To the delightful surprise of the WCAA, there were 29 girls that signed up and WCAA was able to offer 3 full teams to play this Fall season in this new division. With numbers typically larger for Spring Ball, WCAA hopes that the “Sweetees” division will be one of the biggest (and definitely the cutest) they have to offer for the young ladies of Wesley Chapel.

BASKETBALL Spring Season Registration

Fall Ball is offered as an instructional season and ends mid-November. However, registration for the Spring season will begin on November 12th, 2011.

As the end of the year approaches, the WCAA Basketball Committee is gearing up for another great flagship Spring season. The program has become very popular for kids of all ages and sizes, proving that you don’t have to be tall to play ball! This past Spring 5- year-old Gabriel Lukow was one of our youngest boys who participated in basketball program for the first time. At the first practice his parents Camille and Steven were doing coaxing him on

the court to meet his team and begin practicing. Over the course of the season, Gabriel’s parents watched how the game of basketball was helping Gabriel build confidence and in time, he had become eager and excited to participate on the team. Gabriel progressed each week and by the end of the season he came out of his shell and was a great team player. He even scored the last free throw his regular season game! Parents and teammates jubilantly celebrated this achievement by Gabriel! This Spring promises to be another jam-packed season with the Opening Jamboree, Coaches and Players clinics, continuing our partnership with St. Leo University and the AllStars and Championship Weekend! The WCAA Basketball Committee is very excited to open registration for the Spring Basketball Season on November 1st, 2011. Please visit wcaabasketball.com to register and get more information. See you on the courts! v
