WCM WELCOMES

E

very parents dream will soon be opening in Wesley Chapel this Spring! KidsPark of Tampa is traditional childcare with a modern twist to meet the needs of families today with children 2-12 years old. KidsPark will offer affordable hourly childcare days, evenings, and weekends along with educational preschool programs for 2-3 year olds, VPK to prepare children for Kindergarten and fun private Birthday Parties. With KidsPark, parents are not locked into a full or part time program and are able to pay by the hour for only the time needed. Full-day care will also be available at a discounted rate for parents who only work a few days a week and don’t need full time traditional day care, or whenever schools are closed for long breaks, teacher workdays or just days that parents have an all day commitment. KidsPark is a franchise based out of Northern California with centers throughout the United States, and has been a family favorite for over 25 years while remaining the leading provider of hourly care. All centers are fully licensed and provide a high quality and safe environment that offer

an assortment of activities focusing on math and science, imagination, art, educational games and social interaction. The center will offer an open “no walls” floor plan that lets children choose the activity area that most interests them, allowing the choice to play independently or join group activities led by our early education professionals. All KidsPark Staff are certified in First Aid and CPR, screened by the Department of Justice, Trained in Early Childhood Education and Recreation, and required to attend staff development and skill building workshops and classes. KidsPark exceeds state licensing requirements by providing the lowest teacher to child ratio in Pasco County. KidsPark of Tampa is something that owners, Amanda and Ricky Justus have envisioned for a long time. While Mrs. Justus has a degree

in Microbiology and a Master in Business Administration, she states that being a Mom is by far her most important job. We are very busy parents to our two children, and are very familiar with the high demand for flexible and reliable childcare in the area. For years we have discussed opening a childcare facility that charges hourly, versus part time or full time programs while offering extended days and hours of operation. We began researching when we came across KidsPark; instantly falling in love with their concept, we flew to San Jose, CA to meet corporate and tour their centers when we immediately knew that the Tampa area needed one! We believe that life doesn’t always happen in 8 hour blocks and all parents need a few hours here and there, whether it’s

to keep appointments, attend meetings, run errands, shop, play sports, relax, see a movie, go on a date night, etc. while knowing their children are learning and having fun in a safe environment, with no reservation ahead of time. While traditional daycare offers full time care, there are no centers nearby that offer care throughout the evening and into the weekends. KidsPark is the answer to fill in the gaps and assure parents that they always have the care they need! KidsPark of Tampa plans to open its doors this Spring! Located directly next to Shapes Gym and Texas Roadhouse on HWY 56 near I 75, they are conveniently

quirrely Scrolls, a new Wesley Chapel Chamber Member, provides kid-friendly and fun-filled pediatric exam table paper to general pediatricians, pediatric urgent cares and children’s hospitals. The company just partnered with Medline Industries as their distributor which will facilitate orders across the USA. Squirrely Scrolls differ from the plain white exam paper because the paper is educational, interactive, and fun to color. You can also solve various activities such as word search and tic-tac-toe. Their themes change every so often; so far they have done the Amazon

Rainforest and a fish themed featuring marine life native to the Caribbean waters. Katy Gabriel is a graduate of University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She has been a Registered Nurse for over 20 years. But re-located to Tampa, Florida region in 2003 with her husband, Michael and her 2 boys, ages 12 and 13. Katy is passionate about her business because it is unique and it works! Her nursing career and experience in pediatrics is where the concept for the exam paper originated, seeing the distress of patients and parents day in and day out helped her see something needed to be done to alleviate fear, anxiety, and boredom in the exam rooms. A surprising side effect of the paper is the pediatrician and staff also benefit. When the rooms are controlled, the doctor is more efficient and productive. There is now less crying and more smiling in the exam rooms, better moods are formed and the pediatrician has a built in marketing tool on their tables! Parents appreciate the fun paper, and may likely refer family and/or friends due to a great experience at the doctor. • Katy Gabriel, R.N C: (813)352-3601 F: (813)994-3824 Katy@SquirrelyScrolls.com www.SquirrelyScrolls.com

rimebar Tampa has been serving Wesley Chapel and the New Tampa area since 2009 as an upscale gastropub with a laidback atmosphere. They have 40 craft beers on draft, as well as handcrafted cocktails and a vast California inspired wine selection. To pair with your wine, the menu has evolved over the years to include legendary burgers, delicious wings and crowd favorite Mac and Cheese. On weekdays Monday- Friday Primebar offers their Lunch crunch menu which is perfectly portioned and priced. They also have a very popular $6 burger night on Tuesdays. Primebar would also Petite Filets like to mention that

they have started their new 75 cent wings all day Monday. General Manager, Mike Paradiso, graduated from Florida State, where he learned the finer points of communication, the drive it takes to be competitive, and the skillset to be an effective leader. “In this business you really get what you put in. You have a strong connection to your customer base”, explains Mike. The real drive for him is putting out the best possible dish and knowing his team puts forth 100% all the time. I would like to applaud Mike Paradiso and his staff for keeping a very professional and friendly environment. The food is always great and the drinks are always high class. Curiosity landed on Mars in August 2012 and has already made headlines with evidence that conditions on Mars, including the presence of water, once could have supported life. For work on this and other compelling projects, Boykins received a NASA Exceptional Service Medal in 2014,

MUSIC

Amy Morgan April 10th

Jaeb Courtyard www.strazcenter.org Amy Morgan is a jazz vocalist who has been performing professionally in the Tampa Bay area for over eight years. She has sang venues large and small; from 17 piece big-band benefit shows to many intimate restaurant settings. She performed at Ruth Eckerd Hall before several concerts including Natalie Cole, Chris Botti, and Harry Connick Jr. Amy is a classically trained vocalist that began by singing opera in high school and college but later found her niche in jazz. Her sound is influenced by classic jazz divas like Ella Fitzgerald and Julie London but her unique styling of these vintage songs is what makes nostalgic audiences return to hear her.

Rod Picott April 4th

Jaeb Theater www.strazcenter.org Roots music guitarist Rod Picott walked away from his life hanging sheet rock to write songs capturing the tension between starkness and optimism found in his New England upbringing, earning critical acclaim as “Maine’s finest songwriter” (Boston Herald). Picott remains a singer-songwriter who mines the great themes of Americana music to unearth the gems of truth about chance, what ifs, and the confounding personalities along life’s wandering road. Gifted with the knack of the born storyteller, Picott turns anything he finds into music that matters.

The tabla, a traditional Indian drum, has one reigning superstar, and that is Zakir Hussain. Respected the world over by preeminent musicians and world music fans, Hussain’s live performances, recordings and compositions have made headlines since his early work with Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart to elevate the status and capabilities of such a humble instrument. Able to channel the most divine rhythms, Hussain’s performances bring audiences either to their feet or to tears – and often times, both.

Pearl Jam became mainstream with its debut album, Ten, in 1991. They are known for being one of the biggest iconic grunge bands in the early 1990’s grunge movement.

Bring on the Beach... or wherever your heart desires to vacation!

C

an you believe Spring Break is already here? Time for fun in the sun! Good times & tan lines! Beach hair, don’t care! Where will you and your family go for spring break? More importantly, what will you pack/wear? Temps are getting warmer, sun is getting brighter, clothes are getting skimpier and everyone seems to be in a better mood! We are so lucky to call Florida home and be able to experience sunshine throughout so much of the year! The first official day of Spring is March 20th. I feel like mentally something just changes in the brain when we know it’s almost summer…. Almost time for NO SCHOOL (whooo hoo!), which means no packing lunches {my least favorite part of everyday}, no getting up and rushing out of the door in a frantic and best of all…

SUMMER VACATION!

I travel often so I’m pretty experienced at packing. Back in the day, I always over packed and took waaaayyyy too many things that never even made it out of my suitcase. Now, with weight limit restrictions, I like to think I’ve become a pretty savvy packer. My recommendations for packing for a trip, whether a couple nights or a couple weeks are: 1. TRY EVERY OUTFIT ON BEFORE PACKING. This is the #1 tip to not over packing. If you try on every outfit and know it looks good together and you feel comfortable in it, you will not pack a bunch of extra stuff. 2. PICK A NEUTRAL COLOR SHOE – black, brown or tan - and use that scheme throughout all your outfits so you’re not packing a million different shoes. If you pick black, choose a pair of black flip flops & black heels {or wedges} and make sure all your outfits match that. You really only need to pack 2 shoes for every trip – one flat, one high {one for day, one for night}. The exception to this rule is if you plan on exercising… then {obviously} you need to pack a pair of tennis shoes! 3. TAKE ONE PURSE. Again, something neutral that will match all your outfits. Right now “cross body” purses are really popular and easily accessible. Also, if you’re traveling somewhere that you will be on transit, a cross body is recommended. When I travelled to Europe my brother warned me about the pick pocketer’s on the metro so he recommended I carry something that stayed close to my body. 4. LAY EVERY THING OUT. When I’m packing I lay everything out on my bed so I get a visual of what I have. Don’t forget undergarments and pajamas! I also pack fuzzy socks no matter where I’m going. There’s nothing worse than cold feet! 5. PACK TRAVEL SIZE TOILETRIES. I have a travel bag that remains packed and ready to roll. I have travel size deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, face wash, moisturizer, etc. The smaller the item, the less weight and room in your suitcase. Also, if you’re traveling to a hotel, you don’t need to pack a hair dryer… use theirs. Don’t forget sunscreen & pack minimal make-up. Go au natural!

BY RACHEL WARD

6. ACCESSORIES. Again, pack neutrals so you can wear the same accessories with every outfit. GOLD OR SILVER… earrings, necklace & bracelets and you’re good to go. You can also do turquoise because it goes with everything! 7. MAXIMIZE SPACE. You can roll undergarments & socks up and stick them inside your shoes. Pack shoes on their sides, or inside of each other {does that make sense?}. Pack by outfits so each day you’re not ripping apart your entire suitcase to find the top that goes with the bottom. Pack bottoms alternatively, so all the waist bands are not the same way, which builds one side of the suitcase higher than the other. You can also “roll” all your clothes for maximizing space. Also, if you’re traveling somewhere that you can do laundry, pack light and plan to wash everything to wear again.

8. MAKE A LIST for all the “extras” so you don’t forget them. I recommend, Cell phone charger, Camera, camera charger, extra camera battery, Books/Magazines/Journal, IPod (and headphones) for music on the trip, IPad, Sunglasses, Hat. And if you have kids, like myself, SNACKS. Now that you have learned the tricks of the trade and will be a savvy packer yourself, get to packing (efficiently) and bring on the beach (or wherever your heart desires to vacation)! Happy Packing, Happy Spring & Happy Spring Break! *Rachel Ward is the owner of Gemara’s Gems (jewelry) & Rachel Gemara (shirt line). The biggest selection of her jewelry can be found at Tate & Tilly (in Carrollwood) or www.rachelgemara.com for shirts. She loves fashion, accessories & traveling. Her children & her travel yearly to places like Sedona, Los Angeles & San Francisco. She has also traveled out of the country to Barcelona, Paris, Canada, Hawaii, St. Croix, Costa Rica, Bahamas, Cancun & Puerto Rico. HEALTH & WELLNESS

March is Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

Awareness Month

D

o you know what DVT is? Why should you know? Each year, more than 600,000 Americans die because of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE), more deaths each year than breast cancer, AIDS and motor vehicle accidents, according to the US Department of Health and Human Services. The good news is, most DVT and PE can be prevented, but it’s important to understand what it is, if you’re at risk and how to prevent it. What is it? Deep Vein Thrombosis occurs when an abnormal blood clot forms in a large vein. These clots usually develop in the lower leg, thigh or pelvis, but can also occur in large veins in the body. What are the risk factors? • Hospitalization for a medical illness • Recent major surgery or injury • Personal history of a clotting disorder or previous DVT • Increasing age • Cancer and cancer treatments • Pregnancy and the first 6 weeks after delivery • Hormone replacement therapy or birth control products • Family history of DVT • Extended bed rest • Obesity • Smoking • Prolonged sitting when traveling (longer than six to eight hours) What are the symptoms? Typically, you will see recent swelling of the limb, unexplained pain or tenderness, skin that may be warm to the touch and/or redness of the skin. These will occur in the affected limb.

Make your neighbors jealous and keep your HOA happy with the greenest and healthiest lawn, trees, and shrubs!

1

What can be done to prevent DVT and PE? In general: • Exercise regularly • Maintain a healthy weight • Don’t smoke • When sitting for long periods of time, or when traveling for more than six hours: • Exercise your legs frequently while you’re sitting • Get up and walk around every 2 to 3 hours • Wear loose-fitting clothes • Drink plenty of water, and limit alcohol and caffeine • Before and during hospitalization: • Before any surgery, talk to your healthcare provider about prevention of blood clots • Tell your healthcare provider if you have any risk factors for DVT • Ask questions • If you have been confined to bed, move around as soon as possible • After surgery or hospitalization for a medical illness, a small dose of anticoagulant medication is often given to prevent DVT and PE Learn more about DVT as well as Chronic Venous Disease from Dr. Brian Park, vascular surgeon, at Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel’s upcoming wellness seminar on Tuesday, March 29 at 12:00 pm. The seminar is free and open to the public. Registration is required and space is limited. or nine years Rebecca Miller has been running her at home pet sitting business, For Pet’s Sake Pet Sitting, in the Wesley Chapel area. But unlike any other pet sitting business, For Pet’s Sake goes the extra mile to take care of your pet inside your own home. This provides pet owners the security and assurance that their pet will feel safe and their home will be taken care of. Rebecca states, “I provide pet care in your home when you’re on vacations, business trips, or anytime you need to be away. I can do morning and evening visits. However, I can also provide mid-day visits for clients who work long hours. Rebecca not only goes the extra mile but also takes the extra time to ensure that your home and your pets are well cared for. She will also customize a “pet care plan”, specifically based on you and your pet’s needs. Owner, Rebecca started her career as a pet sitter when she

For Pet’s Sake Pet Sitting Rebecca M. Miller PROFESSIONAL PET SITTER

realized her own need for a pet sitter. The benefits to having a pet sitter are numerous. Pets are happiest when they are in their own home, and boarding can be stressful and scary, especially for older dogs. We all know that our pets sleep most of the day but boarding facilities are loud and likely causes our pets to be awake and fearful. For their wellbeing, it is best for pets to be at home. Boarding exposes pets

to other animals and illnesses therefore your pet is required to have the Bordetella and Influenza immunizations. Boarding requires you to drop off and pick up your pet(s) at specific times and include fees. Having a pet sitter means your pet will be waiting for you when you arrive home. When you have a pet sitter your pets can stay home and not be alone. In the nine years of business, For Pet Sake’s has created ties with other pet professionals

FINAL WORD

RECIPE

Creamy Cauliflower Cheddar Soup

Heat butter in a large 5-6 quart Dutch oven or thick bottomed pot on medium high heat. Add the onions, celery, and carrots. Cook for 5-8 minutes until the onions are softened. Add the minced garlic and cook a minute more. Add the stock, cauliflower, bay leaves, thyme, salt and black pepper. Heat on high and bring the stock to a simmer. Lower the heat to maintain a simmer. Partially cover and cook for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the vegetables are completely tender. Remove from heat and remove the bay leaves. Using an immersion blender or a standing blender, purée the soup mixture until completely smooth. Slowly add the cheddar cheese, continuing to purée the soup as you add the cheese, until completely blended. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce. Add more salt and pepper to taste, if needed.
