Lawn &

Garden

February, 2019

What to Plant

Annuals/Bedding plants: Plants that perform better in the cooler months include petunia, pansy, verbena, dianthus, strawflower, and lobelia. Protect from frosts and freezing temperatures. Bulbs: Many bulbs can be planted now. Provide adequate water for establishment and protect from cold weather with mulch. Some examples include Amazon lily, crinum, and agapanthus. Azaleas: With azaleas in full bloom this month, now is a great time to select varieties to add to the landscape. Vegetables: Numerous warm- and coolseason vegetables can be planted this month. Protect cold-tender veggies if a frost or freeze is predicted.

What to Do

Palms: Give cold-damaged palms proper care to encourage their recovery. Citrus: Check citrus trees for scab disease. Apply a copper fungicide when new leaves appear and again when two-thirds of the flower blossoms have fallen. Roses: Prune roses this month to remove damaged canes and improve the overall form. After pruning, fertilize and apply a fresh layer of mulch. Blooming will begin 8–9 weeks after pruning. Shrubs: Fertilize shrubs by spreading fertilizer evenly over the soil surface and watering it in. Follow with a fresh layer of mulch to conserve moisture and reduce weeds. Lawn: Apply a preemergence weed killer (not a "weed and feed") to lawns this month to prevent germination of warm-season weed seeds. Apply when temperatures rise to 65°F for 4–5 days. Timing is important for good control. Citrus and other fruit trees: Fertilize now if not done in January. Frequency and amount of fertilization depend on the age of the tree. HEALTH & WELLNESS

Massage helps to rejuvenate your mind, There

body and spirit allowing for natural balance

are a fair number of massage therapists available; the challenge is finding the therapist that's right for you as their skills, strengths and techniques vary. Some just have a unique, intuitive way of adjusting to you and your body. They get a “feel” for what works best for you. Once you've discovered the perfect therapist you have found an experience that transcends all the troubles and stress in your life. It’s a moving meditation that takes you away. It melts your body and your mind while releasing endorphins. I’m not sure about the spiritual side but the mind and body become tuned-in, awakened and more alive. Of course, there is the purely therapeutic side to massage also. Along with diet and exercise, massage is one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself! I owned a massage establishment in Carrollwood. We employed 14 therapists where I was able to experience a variety

of different massage styles along with the therapist’s strengths and weaknesses. I personally prefer the Swedish style of massage with a bit of deep tissue. A number of years ago I found a therapist, Jennifer Bodanza, whom for me has all the innate qualities necessary to provide the best in massage. She has all the technical training, various styles, strength and intuitive insights that a therapist needs to alter your outlook on life. Her husband is a chiropractor, so I’m sure there is collaborative learning that assists in providing therapeutic and relaxing sessions. Jennifer has recently set up shop in Wesley Chapel. Her business, Natural Balance Massage, is located off Bruce B Downs just North of the Florida Hospital, between 56 and 54. I would highly recommend Jennifer to see if she may be the therapist that is in sync with you. ___________________________________________________ Jennifer Bodanza, is a native of Florida, graduated from the University Of Florida. She’s always had a passion for health, the body and massage so decided to pursue massage therapy. She's been working as a massage therapist for the past 17 years. After years of working for others in busy spas or with her husband in their chiropractic business she had a vision of something quainter and more tranquil. With the help of Brian VanAmburg owner of VanAmburg Construction her vision of a quiet, peaceful spot in nature was brought to life indoors. Natural Balance Massage provides that serene space ideal for relaxation she was hoping to achieve. Natural Balance Massage believes in the importance of massage, not just to therapeutically manage pain and stress but also as a preventive measure through maintenance care. Jennifer specializes in Deep tissue and Neuromuscular Therapy while also offering a variety of other healing modalities easily customized to meet individual needs. Swedish, Pregnancy and Sports massage are also available. All sessions are tailored specifically to each client, which often changes from day to day.
