Celebrates its 4th Anniversary General Manager, Stacey Nance, Finds Her New ‘Home Away From Home’
BY S A N DY PA R R I S H Page 4 • DECEMBER 2019
Stacey Nance chuckles when she recalls that in 2015, it was hard for her to even imagine relocating from her lifelong home in Indiana to become the General Manager of Tampa Premium Outlets in Lutz. She has worked for Simon Property Group for over 22 years and spent 17 of those years serving as the General Manager of a mall in a small town in Indiana where she experienced a true sense of community - one that she knew she would miss. However, once she took a trip to visit this area to consider this new opportunity, she was very pleasantly surprised. Stacey said, “People were so friendly and the area was beautiful. The community here was so wonderful to me, right from the beginning. I remember thinking that if I can’t be home in Indiana, this is the next best place. So, my significant other, Mark, and I packed up and moved down. I joined the North Tampa Chamber and met an amazing friend in Hope Allen, the Chamber’s CEO. She told me where to find everything in town and just made me feel so welcome. This community has made me feel ‘right at home’ ever since.” Tampa Premium Outlets celebrated its 4th anniversary in late October and has welcomed millions of shoppers each year since it opened in October of 2015. Stacey said, “It’s really nice because people don’t just come here to shop. There’s such a nice atmosphere here with our peaceful lagoon and the beautiful way the property is laid out, that people just come to leisurely enjoy the area. In the evening, the palm trees are all lit up so it creates this wonderful ambiance. Our mall is located on 57-acres of fully developed property and we actually work together with the developers surrounding our property to help keep things consistent in that quality look and feel. The local community has been so great to us. We feel so supported and we’re very appreciative of that. In addition to our local residents, we also have a tremendous number of tourists who visit us – both domestic and international.” She added, “There’s something for everyone here and you obviously can’t beat the shopping with discounts ranging from 25% to 85% off retail pricing.” “Our family is very important to us so we visit Indiana often, but between both of our families, we’ve had non-stop visitors who love to stay with us,” Stacey said. “It’s great because we bought a five bedroom home just so we could accommodate everyone so we call it our little ‘bed and breakfast’. My son still lives in my home town in Indiana with his wonderful wife, and they have one son and are about to give me another grandson this December so I’m very excited about that.” PALMS MAGAZINE

Bubble Artiste Blaise Ryndes BY SANDY PARRISH
In 2010, 9 year-old Land O’ Lakes resident Blaise Ryndes received a serendipitous
birthday gift that changed the trajectory of his life. It was a simple child’s magic kit. If he’d only known that nine years later, this special gift would eventually land him on Season 13 of America’s Got Talent at the tender age of 17. As a child, Blaise quickly mastered his talent as a magician but he wanted to add something unique to his performance repertoire. Blaise explained, “As it turns out, there is a small but active subculture of entertainers around the world who utilize bubbles to express their art, and Tom Noddy, who appeared on Johnny Carson, is arguably the originator of that genre. Once I discovered the medium, I literally spent thousands of hours practicing and learning what Tom did, including putting smoke into bubbles and creating amazing bubble sculptures.” Blaise began working professionally doing birthday parties and school assemblies in the Tampa Bay area. He also became a balloon artist and began twisting balloons in local restaurants, including a five year stint at the Breakfast Nook in Lutz. Along the way he developed his own style that incorporates his magic roots and his keen comedic wit into a stage show called Spheres Bubble Show. After attending Countryside Montessori School through 8th grade, Blaise graduated high school from Pasco eSchool. He said that attending virtual school enabled him to get his education while also allowing him to develop a career. He still keeps in touch with many of his teachers and even appears in a Pasco eSchool commercial. Blaise credits much of his success to his extremely supportive parents, Nadine and Dave, who encouraged him from the start to pursue his dreams. He said, “My parents are both busy realtors and they juggled a lot in order to allow my Dad to accompany me at all of my shows, especially when I was under 18.” In 2013, at the age of 12 his first big break came when he was hired to be the featured entertainer for the grand opening of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Pediatric Emergency Room in Tampa. It was a black tie gala and the patrons loved him. Since then, he has performed hundreds of shows for thousands of people for such notable clients as Disney, The Florida Aquarium, The Glazer Children’s Museum, The Tampa Bay Rays, The Tampa Bay Lightning, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, John’s Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, The National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, The Boston Children’s Museum, The Orlando Science Center, ZooTampa, Best Buddies International, The Museum of Science and Industry, The Science Spectrum Museum and many more. In August, he performed in our own backyard at the Land O’ Lakes Library. He has also performed on many television shows, including his dream show, America’s Got Talent. Blaise describes his act as, “A fusion of art, science and magic. Where the art and science ends and the magic begins, I’ll let you decide.” Blaise offers customized performances including birthday parties, corporate events, libraries, schools and even weddings and can accommodate big or small, indoors or out, and local or out of the area. DECEMBER Plantings & Lawn Maintenance Plan to beautify your landscape with these tips for what to plant in DECEMBER and lawn maintenance measures! Excerpts are taken from http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu courtesy of University of Florida IFAS Extension.
What to Plant
Annuals/Bedding plants: To add color to the winter garden, plant masses of petunia, pansy, and snapdragon. Bulbs: Amaryllis is a popular plant for the holiday season. It can be forced to bloom now or planted outdoors for spring blooms. Herbs: Plant herbs that thrive in cool weather. Some examples include parsley, thyme, sage, dill, fennel, and cilantro. Vegetables: Reliable cool-season vegetables to plant this month include celery, cauliflower, lettuce, cabbage, and carrot.
What to Do
Poinsettias: Enjoy one of the most popular indoor holiday plants. Protect it from cold until spring, and then plant it in the garden for next year. Cold protection: Prepare now to protect tender plants should cold weather threaten. Houseplants: Inspect regularly for pests on indoor plants. Keep in mind that plant-specific temperature, light, and humidity are key to ensuring that indoor plants thrive. Soil test: Consider performing a soil test if plants do not perform as desired or if new plantings are planned.
