Infidelity: The Facts, Acts, Myths & Solutions

PART ONE: Should I stay or should I go? Current statistics clearly show that individuals in healthy and fulfilling relationships, as a group, live emotionally happier, longer lives, have less anxiety and psychological issues, tolerate career and social stress much more effectively and are financially more secure than those who are not in a relationship. Then, of course, there is the untold emotional and financial strain that can last for years after a broken relationship on everyone involved, especially the children. Yet in spite of all these vital and wonderful benefits of healthy relationships mentioned above, and in spite of the fact that we all want to be loved, there exists a very inconvenient truth you may not be aware of—statistics show that in the US nearly one-half of first marriages, 60% of second, and over 70% of third marriages end in divorce; and these rates are climbing!

The above statistics seem to validate TWO TRUTHS about love in our culture. 1. We are not taught in school about the most important attribute of life; what it takes to have a successful long-term marriage/relationship. We are exposed to many myths about love and marriage. Culturally we simply are not taught how to create long term, happy, safe, and passionate relationships. It’s not hard when you have step by step directions. 2. As a matter of fact, if you divorce while you are still blaming, without coming to a new level of consciousness about yourself and your relationship, I can guarantee you will have to deal with the same issues again. The results of divorce will statistically leave you at a greater risk the next time around. There are always exceptions, like abuse, some addiction’s. However, divorce is NOT the solution in most cases! Education, information and a plan of action with specific steps is the solution. No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it. One must develop a higher level of consciousness. ~ Albert Einstein Get Going. You don’t have to do this alone. What to Plant

Annuals/Bedding plants: If summer beds need refreshing, try ageratum, coleus, celosia, zinnia, and wax begonia for color into fall. Bulbs: Add color, texture, and pattern to the garden with the many varieties of elephant's ear that are available. Herbs: Plant herbs that tolerate the warm temperatures of early fall, such as Mexican tarragon, mint, rosemary, and basil. What to Do

Lawn problems: Continue to monitor the lawn for signs of insect damage. Fall armyworms, chinch bugs, mole crickets, and sod webworms are still active this month. o be or not to be – it really is THE question. Like Shakespeare’s Hamlet, in his famous soliloquy, we can either be our authentic selves or pretend to be someone else. When we feel something is missing, we poke holes in our souls. We try to fill these holes with food, prescription drugs or any beauty item marketed to make us feel more desired. This is not natural. We are created to be infinite, to be whole, and to lack nothing. The truth is if we pay attention to who we are and celebrate that, we don’t have to live inside a preconceived notion of happiness. We can move from the hole to the whole. We can be ourselves.

If you have a regularly meditation practice, you already understand how to sit in the silence and listen to your intuition. In this exercise, I want you to tune into those conversations with yourself and permanently delete negative messages. Anytime you hear a thought that doesn’t embrace who you really are and what you love, value and respect about yourself, Stop! on that thought. Highlight it in your mind and consciously delete it. Say to yourself and mean it: I love who I am and I know what I am here to do: Love others as they are not how I want them to be.

Step One: Teach Your Inner Child to Embrace Who You Are

Step Three: Affirm with intention and enthusiasm

Too often we say, “Children are our future” and concentrate on who they should be when they grow up. What if instead we taught them they are perfect as they are? It’s is okay to be themselves and grow into that? And, it’s okay to be happy about it. We need to teach ourselves, too. We neither get better or worse as we get older—we actually become more like ourselves. We have tried being like so many other people want us to be only to arrive at a place that says: I gotta be me. Look in the mirror, directly into your eyes and ask yourself who am I? What do I think is missing from my life? Listen to what comes up. Then, ask yourself in what ways do you love, value and respect yourself? Notice how alive you feel. Hug yourself. Write it down. 16

Step Two: Pay Attention to What You Tell Yourself

Energy is the key to changing your thoughts and your life. Make a list of the things in life you enjoy doing. You will feel joy the moment you write the right one down. When you do, say it aloud to yourself and experience the rising energy of knowing who you are. When we know who we truly are, we understand that the answer to Shakespeare’s question is to be exactly who we are. And to accept others as they are. This is the key to inner peace. And this key unlocks the door to world peace.

o you live fully in the present moment? The now moment is what matters the most, so bring your full consciousness to the here and now. That’s your opportunity to fully anchor, connect, feel, choose and create, to experience the fullness of what’s available in the here and now. Breathe, align in the now moment. Breathe in peace, love and light. Clear the chatter, the clutter that steals away your peace, energy and focus. Clear the discordant energies, fears, worries, upsets, pressures, to do’s, distractions, controls, monkey mind and overthinking so you can be fully present, clear minded, peaceful and aware in the moment. Seize the moment. Sacred is the moment. To live in the present takes practice and can be mastered. It allows you to reach higher states of consciousness, creation and happiness. That is how to create and experience the best life, as you flow in these changing times. Liberate yourself from within by being fully present, anchoring in the present moment. Transformation can happen when you begin to ask the question and align--Am I fully consciously present in the now? Ask yourself throughout the day and practice being more present. It starts with the awareness of what is playing in your mind, your conscious and subconscious, then choosing to clear the mind of chatter and clutter. Will you still your mind, shift into neutral mind state so you can experience without reacting, listen better, have greater mental clarity, expand awareness of oneness beyond the ego self, be more conscious and compassionate, in creating and in relating? It takes practice and you will see that practice makes perfect or better indeed. Still your mind—let go of separation, limitation, ego; allow in ease, grace, love, compassion, forgiveness of others and self, surrender, peace and unity; harmonize to the now moment and alignment. Then you begin to connect to and feel the uplifting and peaceful energies, available in each and every moment. In this alignment, you can be in a higher vibratory state and experience what is appearing and synchronize the mind with both logic and intuition, to more fully experience and create in the now moment. Liberate the chaos, uncertainties, the need to control, the noise of the outer world, and the incessant mind chatter. Breathe, be in the now with full awareness, stillness of the mind, to be in the highest alignment of co-creating experience, one moment at a time. Release the worries, upsets, fears, doubts. Surrender to the fullness of feeling and being present, mind-body-soul-spirit. Expand your heart and open your mind. It is important to be present with yourself when you are alone, but ever more important to be fully present when you are communicating with others. hether it is the past, present or future, we are living in our moment. One of the challenges we are faced with is learning how to become consciously aware of what we are placing our thoughts on. Consciousness does not mean we should go about our day thinking about each moment by focusing so hard on maintaining the present; it simply means that we should consider a lifestyle that automatically shifts us back to our current reality. Living life on life’s terms and evolving to our intended higher self is a life long journey. The world around us reflects who we are from the inside, with thought and imagination. That thought and imagination begins to make its way to the outside by way of creation. We tend to share our world with others and others tend to share their world with us. For instance, thoughts turn into words, words into action, action into tangible things. It does not matter if the creation is represented as what we would consider to be good or bad, it is forever in the past, present and future. If everything we have experienced in life was an event, how do we begin to separate the good events from the bad events? How do we keep what we consider bad events out of our consciousness? Ok, let us say that we are successful at keeping the

bad events out of our consciousness. Does that mean the past event will no longer darken our present? Once we become consciously aware of who we are by reflecting on the events that lighten or darken the way we feel, we become better at living in the moment of creative light. Here is a quick exercise. After reading this article, give yourself 30 minutes. Grab a pen and paper, cell phone memo or anything you can record notes on. Make two columns; good and bad. In 5 -10-minute intervals, stop, recall and record your thoughts. What were you thinking about? Be 100% honest with yourself. Did your thoughts hinge on the past, future or present? How did you categorize them; good or bad? Living in the moment does not mean you will be constantly thinking of the exact thing you are doing at each moment of the day. It means that we evolve to a spiritual level that guides our consciousness through the past, present and future. At will, we are able to recall events that has happened, events that are happening now and events that we want to happen. Where ever we are at any given time, that is our moment. When we accept life on life’s terms, we begin to enjoy and live in a healthier world. Our past should be a place where we return to reflect to help guide us to a better present. There is no separation from the past, present or future. Each occurrence is one blend of who we are. Reflect on yesterday, be present in the day, and always have the future in mind.

Do Thoughts

few years ago I gave a 5-minute presentation to a group of more than 60 colleagues and fellow practitioners in the field of Integrative Medicine. This very question, ‘Do Thoughts Matter?’ formulated the basis of my discussion. I’d like to distill some of what I shared that day as it is simple yet has the potential to have significant impact on the quality of each of our lives. How many thoughts do we have? Do you know how many thoughts we have on a daily basis? It has been estimated by the National Science Foundation that we have anywhere from 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts a day. That’s a staggering amount. Interestingly, 95% of these thoughts are repetitive, meaning the same thoughts as the day before. What’s even more remarkable is that 80% of these thoughts are negative. As humans we are hardwired to worry, this is part of our primal brains protecting us from threats to our own survival; so our thoughts and natural instinct are fear based. The degree of negative thinking becomes critical when we think about the potential influence of the mind-body connection to health. What is the Placebo Effect? The idea of thinking is real medicine. This is evidenced by the placebo effect. When we give a subject a “sugar pill” in the place of a prescription drug, an average of 30% of individuals will show a positive response. What causes the response is not the physical substance itself but rather the activity of the mind-body connection. Expectations can be powerful. If you think you’ve been given a drug that will make you better, often that is enough to make you better. So the question becomes can we trigger our own natural healing mechanisms thereby creating wellbeing by the way we think? It seems possible and a plausible idea to explore.


An Interesting Study Through my research, I came across the work of two renowned neuroscientists, Andrew Newberg, MD and Mark Robert Waldman. Their research shows that a single word may have the power to influence the expression of genes that regulate our physical and emotional stress. Using functional MRI imaging they showed that by holding a positive word in the mind, such as peace or love, can stimulate frontal lobe activity. This is the part of our brain that activates the motivational centers and moves us into action. The longer we concentrate on positive words, the more we begin to affect other areas of the brain. Functions in the parietal lobes start to change, which alters our perception of both others and ourselves. On the contrary, hostile language can disrupt specific genes that are key in the production of chemicals that protect us from stress. A single negative word can increase activity in our amygdala, the part of the brain that houses our survival instinct, the fight or flight response. When this area is activated dozens of stress producing hormones and neurotransmitters are released. This interrupts the way the brain regulates happiness and longevity. Angry words send messages of alarm through the brain and compromise our logic and reasoning centers located in the frontal lobes. So different thoughts activate different parts of the brain. It is that simple and clear. Why do thoughts matter? The aim is not to eliminate all our negative thinking, but to appreciate the potential our thoughts have. Each thought we give attention to sends communication to a very specific part of the brain. This triggers a cascade of chemicals that either support or weaken our innate healing mechanisms. The type of response is dependent on the quality of the thought, which is both fascinating and quite powerful. What we tell ourselves on a regular basis matters. It can determine SEPTEMBER 2018

whether you take the next step towards your dream and may even determine the extent to which you experience joy in life. If we excel at all the other important lifestyle factors contributing to health such as nutrition, sleep, hydration, and movement for example yet exclude the power of thoughts, it seems we may be missing an important piece to our overall wellbeing. So explore the power of your own thinking. Start by simply becoming aware of the thoughts that tend to dominate your mind without judgment or praise. Then consciously choose thoughts that serve, inspire, or uplift and see what beneficial changes happen in your life. An example could be noticing yourself replaying a frustrating situation in your mind. Notice if you are judging or criticizing the actions taken or not taken. Then pause for a moment and choose a different thought. Perhaps choose a thought towards something you appreciate or acknowledge a step already taken. Being able to accomplish this within the actual situation that brought the discomfort may be even more helpful. Experiment with how thoughts impact each moment you experience. It is the series of all these moments that ultimately become our lifetime. In a world where so much seemingly is out of our control, remember the thoughts we allow on daily basis are within our own grasp. What thoughts will you choose? oyalty. Noun: a strong feeling of alliance or support. When I hear the word loyalty, I instantly think of dogs and their utter and complete devotion. We use the word loyal most commonly in contexts to describe faithfulness within relationships and commitments to brands or products. But what does it really mean to be loyal? Media often portray the idea that society is becoming increasingly disloyal. With more opportunities, availability and resources than ever before, we have access to more information across an ever-increasing number of platforms. We are less reliant on a single source for anything - whether it be where we get our news; where we get our groceries or even where we find and meet people. Our lifestyles have evolved to such an extent that not only do we have increased diversity between people, but also increased diversity within people. There seems to be fewer and fewer examples of regimented labels that people uphold, and more and more examples of fluid principles/ values that people live by; so much of these varying according to circumstance. For example, vegan/plant based diets are on the increase, with many people showcasing the fact that they try to source their food this way. Ordinarily, you might assume that this means these people ARE vegan, yet this is often far from the truth. What it actually seems to more commonly mean is that whether that person eats a vegan meal or not is circumstantial, dictated by other underlying values. Their norm is to eat plant based, but this isn’t their everything, and they are willing to stray from their norm for many varying reasons. Perhaps they are visiting family and don’t want to inconvenience family

meals. Perhaps they have discovered a sustainably sourced, Organic meat they like. Perhaps they are travelling and want to try a local delicacy. Perhaps their long-time favourite food is all too tempting. Really, the list is endless. Diversity within us often dictates that people no longer label themselves so distinctly (e.g. “I am vegan”), but rather they portray their values with explanations (e.g. “I try and eat mostly plant based meals because...) to decide when they uphold their norms. With fewer ‘labels’, the ability to demonstrate loyalty is also a lot harder. How can manufacturers keep shoppers when their target audience isn’t a distinct set of people? How can we maintain positive relationships with people when we aren’t quite sure of what their fundamental principles are? The evolution of society requires both manufacturers and people to really invest time and resources to really get to know people in order to evoke loyalty. With lots of peoples’ underlying values being so intricately complex, finding what makes people tick is not a quick task. It seems that long-term, sustained loyalty can only be achieved with time, ironically something we are often declaring we have less of. But, gone are the days that one good meal using a particular brand or ingredient creates lifelong loyalty to that brand. Gone are the days that one good date leads to long-term relationships. Loyalty now has to really be earned and only those willing to invest substantial time will be able to attain and retain loyalty of anything. Except of course if you are talking canine loyalty. Their loyalty hasn’t evolved and their devotion remains unwaivered...thank goodness.

ave you ever used the term “No worries” to minimize an issue when someone apologizes to you or asks that you pardon them for some small, innocent, breach of conduct or etiquette? The term has become a casual, kind, but useful, euphemism that covers a lot of territory when one wants to say more by saying less. On a more serious note, worry is a topic which affects us all; it is a toxic energy that always attaches itself to fear manifesting in one of its most convincing disguises. With awareness, saying “No worries” can help us defuse fear by consciously using the term as a mindfulness practice: The more often I say “No worries” to other people the more I realize what a great affirmation, or mantra, it is for myself.

Just allow the words “No worries” to wash over you; hear them as a statement of fact--a truth you are claiming as your own; it’s another way of declaring, “I choose NOT to invest my precious time and energy in something over which I have no control.” Think about it; when you are consumed with worry (based on any issue) where is your mind? You have projected it into the future where you have not even a modicum of control. The only thing you have any real control over is perhaps your next breath and the thought attached to it in the present moment; make that thought a healthy and productive one. in a positive manner is to be extremely aware of what you are putting in your mind today, understanding that fear is never the answer. This is not meant to trivialize the issues that may be going on in our lives or the world around us which are intensely compelling and certainly worthy of our concern; it’s merely a reality check. Worrying about anything over which we have no control is a poor use of the limited and precious time allotted to us on this planet because it doesn’t change anything except our blood pressure. The next time the worry habit rises and wraps itself around you, casting you into the future, stop for a moment and take a deep breath. Then ask yourself, “Is this something I have control over or the ability to change in this moment?” If the guidance you receive is “Yes” then drop the worry and take up whatever action you must to alleviate the fear; do what needs to be done. Conversely, if the answer you hear is a resounding “No” then take a deep breath and let the issue go. Embrace “what is” in the moment; refuse to allow worry to have its way with you. In either case, you will be actualizing the mantra that can set you free to be fully present and at peace with yourself in that moment: “No worries”; it’s more than an affirmation--it’s a way of life. Pet Diabetes A Modern Day Epidemic



s I was researching diabetes in pets, I was dismayed to see that 99% of everything I pulled up discussed symptom based treatments. Virtually nothing attributed the 32% increase in canine and feline diabetes to lifestyle! The number of diabetics are continuing to rise for dogs, cats and humans because the underlying cause is not being addressed.

This is the text book definition of Diabetes Mellitus: An absolute or relative deficiency of insulin. NO!!!! Diabetes is a lifestyle disease caused by eating an exceedingly high carbohydrate diet! The body (pet or human) is designed to keep blood sugar within a certain range. When that level rises (due to eating high carbs or refined sugars) the pancreas produces insulin. Insulin’s job is to regulate blood sugar. If there is too much blood sugar, more than what the liver can store, insulin will convert that excess sugar to fat and stick it in a fat cell. Fat should only live in fat cells. But when the fat cells become full, the fat has to go somewhere so it goes into the liver, pancreas and muscle. Fatty liver is 22

one of the leading causes of liver failure in people today. It is this overflow syndrome that results in diabetes. A clear example of this is the cattle industry. Cows just before slaughter are fed a high grain (high carb ) diet to create the marbling (high fat) in the muscle (the meat). Diabetes isn’t a deficiency of insulin, it’s a result of exhausting the pancreas’s ability to deal with excessive sugar, leading to insulin resistance. WE MUST ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSE OF DIABETES IN PETS IF WE ARE TO MAKE HEADWAY IN PREVENTING AND CURING IT 1. Dogs and cats were never designed to eat high carbohydrate diets (processed kibble and canned foods are exceedingly high in carbohydrates). 2. Processed foods lack digestive enzymes, putting all the digestive strain on the pancreas. 3. Free choice feeding (leaving food in the bowl all the time) leads to constant spikes in blood sugar (and the resulting spike in insulin) as the pet eats throughout the day/night. 4. Persistant inflammation. SEPTEMBER 2018

Leaky gut and the relationship to inflammation Leaky gut is a condition in which the permeability lining in the gut becomes “leaky”, allowing particles to enter the body that should not have. These particles travel by the blood stream to the liver where the liver sees them as invaders and mounts an inflammatory response.

Uncontrolled inflammation is the underlying cause of all dis-ease What causes the gut to become leaky? Pesticides, hormones, chemicals, genetically modified foods, stress and in the case of carnivores (dogs and cats) a high carbohydrate diet are among the leading causes of leaky gut. ALL processed foods, kibble and can, contain exceedingly high levels of carbohydrates, up to 60% in some cases! Carbohydrate is never listed on a bag or can of pet food. To calculate it, start with 100% and deduct the percentage of fat, proteins, water and 8% for ash. The remaining amount is the carbohydrates. Grain free is not carb free Grain free diets are misleading in that they still contain exceedingly high levels of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates break down to sugar. Processed foods also lack live enzymes, necessary to digest food, further burdening the pancreas with being the sole producer of digestive enzymes, a job it was not designed to do alone.

Diabetic Ketoacidosis DKA Results when the body can’t use glucose as a fuel (because there is not enough insulin to move the sugar into the cells) and has to burn fat for energy. As fat is broken down it produces waste products called ketones. Ketones are eliminated in the urine and lungs. Under normal circumstances the body can tolerate and eliminate small amounts of ketones. But when a pet is in a diabetic ketoacidotic state, fat’s are being burned at such a fast rate that the body cannot eliminate them fast enough and they build up in the blood. High levels of ketones are toxic to the body, causing acid-base and electrolyte imbalances. Ketoacidosis can be life-threatening and requires immediate medical intervention.

Best to consult with an experienced holistic vet for how to safely make these conversions. Consult a veterinarian for insulin recommendations. Oral medications used for people have little value for cats and dogs. Injections of insulin twice daily are the standard of care. Using supplements like Alpha Lipoic Acid and Cinnamon may help stabilize blood sugar but by themselves may not control blood sugar levels adequately. I strongly encourage owners to monitor their pets glucose levels at home with an Alpha Trax glucometer, available on Amazon. It is ideal to check the blood glucose reading before injections of insulin. A glucose curve should be done after the first 10 days of insulin therapy and repeated 10 days after each insulin dose change until the pet becomes stable and the glucose is under 200 for most of a 24 hour day. A glucose curve is made by recording blood sugar levels before insulin injection and every 1-2 hours after, until the next injection 12 hours later. The goal of insulin therapy is to level out the high and low reading so the ’curve’ chart looks gentle and does not show big peaks and valleys. Insulin is a delicate product and must be handled carefully! Keep it refrigerated but not frozen. Gently roll the bottle before drawing the dose. One of the most common reasons to lose glucose regulation is the insulin goes bad. If in doubt, buy a new bottle. The second reason for poor regulation is due to administrator error (the person giving the shot messed up). I find it best when 1 family member is giving the inSEPTEMBER 2018

jections, there tends to be less errors and variation in administration technique. Adding insulin, however, does not fix the problem. Insulin pushes the elevated sugar into the cell, but does nothing to treat the underling cause or reduce inflammation.

Hypoglycemia results when blood sugar drops too low. This could result from giving too much insulin. Symptoms may include hunger, restlessness, shivering, unsteadiness, sleepiness or coma. If this occurs, rub honey or organic syrup on the gums and seek immediate veterinary care.

Diabetes Can Be Reversed I have had multiple diabetics become insulin independent (no longer a diabetic) when the owners make the lifestyle changes needed to reverse the dis-ease.

Fasting is key to successfully managing diabetics. In the wild, dogs and cats did not graze and eat all day. By Charles Zinner e all have had times of trials and tribulations in which we thought we could sink no lower, that this situation was the most awful, despairing, hurtful and everlasting evil that we could suffer. But yet, through all of this, we somehow make it and go on with lessons and maybe everlasting hurt. This is the duality of spiritual lessons- there is a bright as well as dark side. And in the end there is a balance that result from the healing we receive. It apparently is the natural way that the universe and its laws operate, the light and the dark constantly revolving, intertwined, acting on and within each other. We seem to have to experience both sides to see the interconnection of the actions and processes that take place to create situations. Only after we discover and realize (understand), can we forgive and release. In short, the concept can be described as he Yin and Yang flow that creates, eventually, balance, harmony, peace and, yes, joy and happiness. All of us are subject to this – the internal examination and subsequent personal lessons related to a situation. No one escapes the depths of despair when in a state of feeling overpowered by events and circumstances. We all face the depths before we climb the heights. A few examples follow that illustrate some of the notables in the spiritual field who have authored their experiences of the extremes we face and how they taught valuable spiritual lessons. Earlyne Chaney, co-founder of Astara, a school of ancient teachings, tells her story of reincarnation in which she was an initiate in the Egyptian school of Mysteries. Her final test was to spend a night in the King’s chamber in the Great Pyramid. Upon beginning the journey,



the first was the appearance of frightening images which in reality were the thought forms she had created in that life time. Remembering that all were illusory, she calmed down, and she was able to get in touch with her higher self and move to the highest level of enlightenment. David R Hawkins, MD, who co-authored a groundbreaking medical book with Linus Pauling (the only two time Nobel prize winner), had extraordinary spiritual breakthroughs after an NDE as a child. Through intensive Vypasana meditation practices in which one learns to be mindful of all aspects of one’s spiritual being, he achieved the ultimate oneness with the universe or Void. Reasoning that if there was an extreme enlightenment, he asked to see the opposite, that is, the extreme dark. He said that his experience confirmed that Dante was right. He was able to call on angelic help and regained a balanced spiritual life. Robert Peng, Qi (pronounced “chee”) Master, studied under a renowned spiritual master in China. His ultimate test to achieve spiritual enlightenment was to spend 100 days underground, alone (his master did attend to him daily-to oversee his safety). During the time of total seclusion, he gained the ability to leave his body, see wonderful aspects here and in other realms. The last part of the trial, he saw the most awful of demonic energies and ghoulish visions. Once again, these were the thought forms created in this and other life times. How do these relate to the present and in your life? They are simply a few illustrations of what others have experienced. These same things happen to all of us. It does not take a saint or outstanding SEPTEMBER 2018

scientist , it just takes an understanding that this is apparently a universal process. We work to dump the ugly, useless, trash- as best we can- and move on to a higher and lighter- or better understanding. With understanding we can see and be more compassionate for all involved in heavy, dark situations. The most important aspect of all of this is to have love and compassion for one’s self. Since we exist in a linear time reality, that is we have yesterday, today and tomorrow, we must strive to forever release, drop, forgive or do whatever it takes to prevent these psychological, emotional anchors from dragging us down into perpetual depression. The deepest and most effective way is to work with someone who can help guide you through it. Look for the healer who is spiritual, has real qualifications, and is earnest in wanting to help you. Deep meditation is one of, if not, the most powerful means of purging and accessing the highest spiritual aspects of oneself. The journey is one in which we learn to heal ourselves…. and then to give to others!

hen God made man there was only one boss, and the various parts of the body argued about who would be The Boss. The hands said they would be because they did the work. The feet said they would be because they took man to where he would do the work and get food. The stomach thought it should be because it digested the food. The heart thought it should be because it pumped the blood that allowed the food to be digested by the stomach and reach body. The brain said,” No, I have to send all the signals to get each of you to do your job, therefore I am The Boss.” The colon said,” I’ll show you who is Boss and clogged up and would not let anything pass. After a few days the hands were helpless, the feet could not carry the body, the heart was ready to stop pumping blood and the brain’s signals were being ignored. So, who is The Boss? Hippocrates, The Father of Medicine, stated “All disease begins in the colon (large intestine).” The Royal Society of Medicine conducted a study found that a dysfunctional colon contributes to 85% of disease and illness that people suffer today. I would like to share a story with you today……….

Our thoughts come from our subconscious and we live in it 90% of our day. So, what do you think about? Are you living in the past, present, or future? I know you might be asking, how does that affect me? Well, being a colon therapist for as long as I have, I have been blessed to observe clients and their lifestyles. Do you hold on to things(constipation) or let things build up and explode (diarrhea)? You see, it is not just what you eat and drink. We are a multidimensional being. I invite you to look at yourself as a beautiful jigsaw puzzle. We have to find the pieces that fit on all levels --emotional, spiritual and physical level in your life. This will affect your gut! Of course, you will get bumps on the road, we all do. We can look at those bumps as blessings, and turn them into lessons, if we slow down and get out of our heads and into our hearts. Many do not go to the heart because it is painful. I have found that many of us will put on the Mask to hide those hurts which really come from belief systems that have been influenced by generations of family and social media that do serve self-love. As I reflect on my life, and I am a chronologically mature citizen, I observe how my belief systems has held me back and affected my health. My subconscious sabotaged my choices in life. I had feelings of not good enough in many aspects of life. Yet, ever since I was a child I was told I was to become a teacher, marry, have a family and take care of them first. I woke up and believe me there is a big difference between self-love and being self-centered. OOPS, you might think I am getting away from the colon, not really because I held onto things, perhaps that is why I became a colon therapist. A new chapter in my life journey. You/we can change all that, no matter what your chronological age is. Believe in yourself… as my mentor, Darrell Wolfe says…. Love is the answer and self-love is the cure. r. Doral Reginald Pulley celebrates 40years ofministry and has worked almost every capacity of the Church. He has traveled across the country spreading the Word of God in an innovative manner that empowers people to change. He is known for his ability to effectively train church leaders and to stimulate holistic growth and development. At an early age, Dr. Pulley became aware of his true identity as a son of God and demonstrated a love of God and church, which distinguished him from other children. He accepted his call to ministry at the age of 7 and was licensed as a minister at 12. He has served several churches in the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan area as assistant, associate, or senior pastor. In 1988, as a freshman, he founded Alpha Nu Omega Inc, a Christian fraternity that now has 28 chapters on campuses throughout the United States. In 1992, Dr. Pulley graduated Magna Cum Laude from Morgan with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Religious Studies and Theology. He received his Masters of Science in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola College of Maryland in 1996 and his Certificate of Advanced Study in 2000. He graduated in May 2010 with a Doctorate of Ministry in Pastoral Psychology from Graduate Theological Foundation. Dr. Pulley is certified as a mental health professional by the National Board of Professional Counselors and by the State of Maryland as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. After 20 years of service, he retired from being the Assistant Principal of St. Frances Academy, an inner city Catholic high school. Dr. Pulley is the author of several books and publications including:The Life Model for Spiritual Direction, A Guide to Establishing Mental Health Ministries, Redefining Relationships for the 21st centuryandIt’s Just That Simple: Love God, Love Yourself, Love Everyone Else. Dr. Pulley is the President and CEO of the Church of the Everlasting Kingdom, a network of local assemblies, ministries and businesses throughout the United States who manifest the Kingdom of God right here on earth. In August 2014, Dr. Pulley relocated to St. Petersburg, Florida and became the Spiritual Leader of Unity of Midtown. The churchhas experienced phenomenal spiritual, numerical and financial growth under his leadership. In addition to pastoring, preaching, teaching, counseling, and writing, Dr. Pulley is thefather of two beautiful twin daughters, Brittney and Courtney, and one son, Doral, II. very night when you go to sleep you lie down in your bed and everything of your day and your life clears away. On the way to sleep, you unwind. You simply rest in your heart and your body and your whole existence passes away. As you relax, you return to your real beingness. The simplicity of its beginning is openness. You are open to relaxing as awareness. You don’t mind. You naturally love opening and softening in your restedness. The part of you that you are used to which is your self passes away and you naturally end up in your heart. As you go deeper in your heart, your heart also passes away and your existence is gone. You fall asleep and you return to being what you really are. Your return is natural and continual. It is so immediate and so simple that from the perspective of yourself, it is all overlooked. When you are awake you can easily without any effort, thought, feeling or will, simply be. When you are in nature, you are being with nature. Nature responds to your being. Nature reflects and tells you what you really are. You naturally enjoy being in nature and the moment happens without you even thinking about it. You delight in being with the trees, the water, flowers, mountains, and birds. You relax. You are rested in your heart. Your heart opens. You shift into being what really are instead of who you are. When you relate to your thoughts and feelings, you engage your will. You involve all of the levels of yourself to be that which precedes yourself. Whatever you use is what you are being, even your personality. What you really are is a quality. A quality is beingness such as love, loveliness, honesty, truth, knowing & seeing. As you enter any quality of your being, you enter what you really are. Within each quality of your being, you are able to stream and that streaming is your love and your beloved. Streaming is you awareness moving as love. You are awareness being and moving as love.

CULTURAL TURBULENCE An Integral Worldview with Joran Oppelt


s you notice the converging challenges and the daily chaos we are facing today do you sometimes feel perplexed and wonder, “How did we get to this point?!” or “How could this be?!”

Given the increasingly palpable threat to planetary life, our “way of life” and our highest values, these reactions are normal. It truly is difficult at times to make sense of it all. Here in lies the integral worldview. Weaving together evolutionary theory, stages of consciousness and culture, and other fields of study, the integral approach acts as an illuminating wide-angle lens. Through it we see the relationship between the bigger story of humanity and the current chapter narrated by our present circumstances. This, in turn, enhances our ability to “connect the dots” and deepen our understanding. Through this lens we also see the evolution of our collective consciousness and its emergence into a new structure – the “integral stage.” The integral stage of human development is characterized by its potential to stimulate cooperation between multiple views. Given society’s growing complexity and polarization, the capacity to skillfully integrate various perspectives is critical. In this introductory presentation and conversation, Joran Oppelt will flesh all this out in a way that is practical and easy to appreciate. Our hope is that you will glimpse into the current predicament we’re in now with a new set of eyes that instill optimism for our future.
