Breath - Happiness and Life Purpose


e all gravitate towards activities and situations which give us, in our belief, satisfaction, happiness and joy. Most of the time, we look to physically doing or acquiring something, believing that this is the way to achieve an ultimate state of happiness or to feel good. In fact, we pursue happiness and things which are outside of us, either forgetting or not realizing that this state of being is within! Pursuit can entail stress because it becomes a never ending cycle of constant chasing and usually not attaining what we think we want or desire. We are born with the capability of reaching within and attaining any state that we wish, and almost at any time that we wish. Yes, society and all the demands on us scatter our energies and peace of mind. When this happens many different levels are affected and most effects of stress are not healthy. A calm mind is the key to reaching into our inner-most being. Without a calm mind, producing calm thoughts, the body cannot relax or calm down. If the body calms down, the interplay between the mind and body will, interestingly, act to calm each other. One way to begin calming both body and mind is through breathing. In fact, just breathing in a rhythmic manner can have tremendous calming effects. Two incidents that took place recently to illustrate this. One was when I observed a test subject being tested for physiological responses to emotional stimuli. He was instructed to breathe regularly and evenly, and this went on continuously for an hour and a half. It was during this period that the responses became variable and less intense as he relaxed. In fact, the breathing relaxed him to such an extent that while not being measured it became apparent that the subject brainwaves

went into a deep alpha brainwave state by the end of the session. He was very relaxed and almost in a meditative state. The second incident recently was observing a friend doing qigong breathwork to lower his hypertension almost 30 points on top (systolic) and approximately 20 points (diastolic). From hypertensive to almost the now recognized medical marker for normal. All this occurred within 15minutes or less of breathwork and directing the energy. The relaxation lasted for several hours and is easily reproducible. This all relates in that in order to reach a state of relaxation and feeling good, there has to be a method to reach that relaxed state. Breathing is a great way to easily do this. Simple breathwork, applied on a continuous basis has the power to affect the body in tremendous ways. When we are relaxed, and breathing in oxygen, we tend to stimulate the hypothalamus, which in turn stimulates our endocrine system. A couple major parts of the endocrine system ae the pituitary and pineal gland. It is well known in metaphysics that when we meditate, relax and fortify our spiritual energy, then there can occur a marriage of those two glands’ energies and at that point one’s spiritual progress accelerates tremendously. If we are simply seeking relaxation, then this is a simple and probably oft forgotten method to do it. Simple abdominal breathing is all it takes, as per the aforementioned experiences- and it is very easy to do. Once the body relaxes, we begin to feel good and often we begin to ascertain information and intuit ways of reaching our desired state of happiness. Meditation can cause us to reach deep states of inner introspection, but using breathing as an aid to calming is very

helpful in reaching the meditative state. Stress hormones are also reduced. Another aspect of breathing is that the hypothalamus is stimulated to relax us while we gain energy from this relaxed state of being. Perhaps part of it is the release from stress but according to Wim Hof, also known as the Ice Man, his breathing technique also stimulates adrenalin flow and this has been scientifically tested in labs. His students are relaxed but have enough energy to accomplish things most of us would consider extraordinary. His method is also very simple, but astoundingly effective. Being able to control the autonomic nervous system and easily endure extreme weather conditions speaks volumes for the effectiveness of breathwork. So, we have all within us to achieve happiness and joy. If we breathe, relax and see that the joy is really inside of us, then we will have claimed our birth right and fulfilled our purpose as spiritual physical beings- which are the attainment of happiness, joy, great health and enthusiasm for life!

The Law of Karma states that the universe, AND ALL OF HER INHABITANTS, must remain in balance.


et’s face it, without a law of balance, the universe would go unstable and fall apart! Balance actually means all is in a flow for the highest and best for all. The requirement for balance is built into every level of Creation, from its Divine root through all the cosmic, spiritual and physical levels. Human karmic patterns are stored at the soul level, which is the root of human consciousness, which in turn, allows our karmic patterns to grow and prosper towards our true purpose-joy! Sometimes people ask, “Can you dodge karma?” The simple answer is, “Not a chance, no matter what anyone claims.” As one of the fundamental laws of the universe, Karma can never be circumvented because it is built into the energetic fabric of the universe and into each one of us. However, there is a way to change your karmic pattern... You can transform your karmic patterns by advancing your level of consciousness. An example of this is when, at a soul level, a person sees that they need a wake-up call in order for their physical mind (ego) to begin to appreciate one of the more important aspects of their life. Instead of having the wake-up call, the person can achieve the desired awakening through a rise in consciousness. Then, the need for the wake-up call as a self-imposed life lesson is removed. As you can imagine, people are accountable for the consequences of their actions, but the main factor in human karma is the intention behind every action. Intention is significant because the purpose of life in this human realm is to evolve through the lessons that life presents. Therefore, clearing our karmic patterns does, indeed, become our purpose. The primary lesson in life on earth is to evolve into the adoption of unconditional love as a frequency of consciousness. person for personal advantage. In order to reach that level of consciousness, there may be lessons that are needed in order to experience the receiving end of a person’s past actions against others. Through such an experience of suffering, a person can gain compassion for others and begin to act in ways where they are more likely to want to protect others rather than exploit them. Souls know that they have to achieve balance in all things in order to graduate from the cycle of experience provided by physical life. All of life’s experiences are opportunities to evolve toward the unconditional love which exists. Every move in the right direction raises a person’s daily level of consciousness. Every move in the opposite direction causes a delay while the person gains awareness from being on the receiving end of similar experiences. By setting an intention to raise consciousness, a person becomes an active agent in their own process of conscious evolution. Releasing our old karmic relationship attitudes makes way for new and beneficial loving relationships. We can find joy and compassion in our everyday experiences. When we are aware of each and every “picture” we are given in our daily lives, we see the lesson. Yes, life does give us karmic collisions. A constant barrage of choices, moment by moment decisions shape our lives and our relationships. New healthy karmic patterns allow us to learn how to create healthy relationships with others. By being aware of our choices and old negative karmic patterns, we are able to leave behind old karmic patterns of relationships which no longer fit for us. We can find joy and compassion in our everyday experiences. When we are aware of each and every “picture” we are given in our daily lives, we see the lesson. We open the pathway for new and better karmic relationships, situations, and life purpose. 

o know the purpose of life is as lucrative as to be in this life. The great philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson stated that lifes purpose can be defined by 4 parameters; First of all, it’s not all about being happy. Secondly, the purpose

should reflect something useful by you. Thirdly, it is to honor yourself. Last, but not the least parameter reflects some distinction in between living and living well! So whatever your purpose is, It should have a direct connection with advice in the above 4 parameters, but if the case is not so, one should make it responsive with respect to above points of wisdom. Lack of life purpose leads one to be anxious, depressed or phobic. A purposeful life provides one with an inner peace and if you are happy living your purpose, it is worth millenniums to you. Psychologists have been known to treat the tension, stress, desperation and incompleteness in a person because of just one reason. They do not possess a purpose in life. All of us have been filling out to do lists, but literature reports that the people with a purpose in life do not need lists or alarm clocks to be on the right track. Filling up your to do list, rising up daily from the bed and thinking of doing something are all means to achieve a purpose, but these steps are significant only when the purpose of life is crystal clear and is a passion. If you are creating a travel plan but do not know your destination or where are you going to be at after riding this bus, the plan would be risky and could leave you on a midway with abandoned roads all around you. Aim for a purpose of your life. Track your achievements and progress towards it; you would have better health, a happier mood and the capacity to be more productive. Each day would be targeted to achieve sub-goals and your life would become more fulfilling with time. e have choices every day. Each and every day there are moments and events that transpire that we take for granted. We make the choice not to notice. We do not take the breath to notice these moments. We seem to be caught up in those events which send us into fear or out of balance. Those events that make us vulnerable. What of the other things that we forget to notice everyday? There are no ordinary moments in life. No ordinary breaths that are meaningless. Every breath is a sacred experience. Once that sacred moment has passed, one can not go back and inhale it again. How many sacred breaths do you miss every day? The Universe blesses each of us every moment of every day. The breath is a gift. This morning I awoke to hearing a hummingbird chirping outside my bedroom window. My Jack Russell showering me with kisses to celebrate the morning. It was four am and the start of my

day. The air was brisk this morning as I stepped outside. Savoring the aroma’s of early morning allowing it to fill my every cell is a gift I gave myself. That first cup of coffee has never tasted better as I curl up on my porch swing. How could I not feel grateful for the moments, for the breaths, for all the gifts blessing my morning. These moments to be grateful for, what would my life be without them? Without the sound of birds chirping? Without my pup that shows love unconditional every moment? Without that strong aroma of freshly brewed coffee? I am deeply grateful for each of them.

Pause as you are reading and look about, are there not small things that you are blessed to have? things that if were not there, you day would not be as beautiful or as loving? Every sacred breath, every moment that is recognized is like a ripple from the stone tossed in a still pond. When the smallest of gifts are recognized the bigger the ripple that is created. These are the little miracles that surround us each and every day. The result of recognizing even the smallest miracle is that your life becomes overflowing with joy and love. Take a moment and breath deeply. Allow the sacred moment to vibrate through every cell. Recognize the sacredness of the breath, the moment, and your life. The Differences Between

Happiness and

Purpose in Life


here can be substantial trade-offs between seeking happiness, and seeking your Purpose in life. The pursuit of happiness and your purpose are two of our most central motivations in life. A wealth of research in positive psychology suggests that happiness and purpose are, in fact, essential elements of well-being. Happiness and purpose are strongly correlated with each other, and often feed off each other. The more meaning we find in life, the happier we typically feel, and the happier we feel, the more we often feel encouraged to pursue even greater meaning and purpose. An increasing body of research suggests that there can be substantial trade-offs between seeking happiness and seeking meaning in life. In contrast, the two measures of meaning (cognitive processing and purpose) were positively associated with most of the measures of adaptation. In particular, cognitive processing was very strongly related to grit (passion and perseverance for long-term goals), and self-distancing was robustly related to gratitude and well-being, and negatively related to emotion suppression. What’s more, the interaction between cognitive processing and self-distancing was additionally associated with measures of adaptation. It seems that meaningmaking is particularly adaptive if one can maintain a self-detached third-person perspective to their lives. Years of research on the psychology of well-being have demonstrated that often human beings are happiest when they are engaged in meaningful pursuits and virtuous activities. Indeed, when we are

deeply engaged in an activity that is in accordance with our best self, we often report the highest levels of life satisfaction. In my view, further investigation of the similarities and differences between happiness and purpose can contribute substantially to our understanding of this ‘sweet-spot’ of well-being: that seemingly magical combination of happiness and purpose or meaning that sets off the virtuous cycle that can ultimately lead to a life well lived. Now, that would be really meaningful.

Numbers and One’s Purpose



ant to know your life’s purpose? The reason that you came to this plane of existence, the lessons and opportunities that you planned to learn? The major lesson? Your life’s path and work? Numerology offers a host of ways to determine our personality traits and the Life Purpose is a major part in this. The major Life purpose is determined by one’s date of birth (day, month and year) and also the day of birth indicates another portion of your life opportunities! In Numerology we can determine a person’s life purpose (the date of birth) as well as their abilities and innermost soul’s desire (from the name). The life purpose constitutes half of a core personality reading.

The method to determine the Life Path (major purpose in life) is to individually add the individual’s month of birth, to the day of birth, and then add those to the total of the year of birth. To explain the number’s of each part and the method, the following information is provided and followed by examples of how to apply them: Except for 11 & 22, all numbers are reduced to a single digit: 1-9, 10 = 1+0 = 1, 12=1+2 = 3, and so forth up the scale of numbers. For each month: Jan is a 1 month, Feb is 2; Mar is 3; Apr is 4; May is 5; Jun is 6; Jul is 7; Aug is 8; Sep is 9; Oct is 10 = 1; Nov is 11 (never reduced) and Dec is 12 =3. Is a selfless individual working for the greater good. 11 is the one between the worlds who brings in the higher mental ideals. Illumination is the key word. Typically very psychic with much spiritual nervousness as a result of those intense energies. 22 is the Master Builder. They are like the 11 but create concrete reality. Joseph Kennedy was a 22 and built an empire. Tremendous spiritual nervousness, can literally create anything. Helps Protect Memory Natural Health News — An international team of scientists have found that having higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids in your body could enhance the memory boosting effects of B vitamins. The team, from the Universities of Cape Town, Oslo, Oxford and the United Arab Emirates, studied more than 250 people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in Oxford. MCI is when brain function is below what is normally expected for a person’s age but is not significant enough to interfere with daily life. While it is not as serious as dementia, if untreated it often progresses to become dementia. What you need to know » Previous research has shown that supplementing with B-vitamins can help slow memory decline in people with mild cognitive e impairment. » Now a new study has shown that having higher levels of omega-3 in your body can enhance the memory-sparing effect of B vitamins. » The findings provide encouraging news that for some older people a combination of fish oil supplements and B vitamins may help prevent brain atrophy and improve thinking and memory. Fighting the effects of homocysteine The team had previously found that B vitamins are able to slow or prevent the atrophy of the brain and memory decline in people with MCI. This was most effective in those who had above average blood levels of homocysteine, a chemical in the blood that is produced when the amino acid (a building block of protein) called methionine is broken down in the body. The scientists also found that there was a link between omega-3 levels, homocysteine, and brain atrophy rates. It was this link that they sought to explore further in the latest study. At the start of the study, published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, each person was given a set of tests to measure their cognition, and had a blood test to determine the levels of two omega-3 fatty acids commonly found in oily fish: docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). The participants were split into two randomly-selected groups, that received either a B-vitamin supplement or a placebo pill over two years. Their cognitive performance was also measured and the results compared with those taken at the start of the study. Slowing memory decline Researcher Dr Abderrahim Oulhaj of United Arab Emirates University said: “We found that for people with low levels of omega-3, the vitamin supplements had little to no effect. But for those with high baseline omega-3 levels, the B vitamins

were very effective in preventing cognitive decline compared to the placebo. This result complements our previous finding that B vitamins slow the rate of brain atrophy in MCI only in those with a good omega-3 level to start with.” The team also found that levels of DHA might be more important than levels of EPA, although more research needs to be done to understand why this might be so, and who is most likely to benefit from the combination of omega-3 and B vitamins. Even so, these results provide encouraging news that for some older people a combination of fish oil supplements and B vitamins may help to improve thinking and memory. The next stage, say the team, will be to see whether providing a combination of B vitamins and omega-3 supplements can slow the conversion from MCI to Alzheimer’s disease. This would be an important step in improving our understanding or the role that diet and nutrition can play in reducing a person’s risk of dementia.

VINEGAR OF THE FOUR THIEVES This is an old recipe once used to ward off the plague. Use it now to ward off cold and flu.

INGREDIENTS • 1 pint apple cider vinegar

• A few juniper berries

• Big pinch of wormwood herb

• 15 cloves

• Big pinch of meadowsweet herb

• ½ ounce elecampane root

• Big pinch of wild marjoram

• ½ ounce angelica root

• Big pinch of sage

• ½ ounce rosemary leaf


• ½ ounce horehound herb

1. Place all ingredients into a mason jar, seal tightly, and store the mixture for 2 weeks in a cool, dark place, shaking it each day. 2. Strain the mixture well and bottle it up. 3. Store it in a cool, dark place. 4. Take 1 teaspoon of vinegar orally to prevent illness. You can also use it externally, rubbing it on hands, face, and neck.
