Lifestyles A LETTER FROM YOUR LIFESTYLE DIRECTOR This December marks my one year anniversary here at Grand Hampton as your Lifestyle Director. It’s hard to believe it’s been a year, and at the same time it feels like I have been here forever thanks to our residents going out of their way to make me feel at home here. For those of you who do not know, I have a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida in Health Sciences with a Biological Science Concentration and somehow ended up doing events! It’s been a crazy two and a half years since I graduated from college. When I wasn’t able to go to graduate school for Athletic Training, I decided to find a job near home and figure out my next steps. From there I became a Recreation Attendant at The Vinoy Renaissance Hotel and Spa in St. Petersburg, Florida and then went on to work in Activities at Marriott Vacation Club’s Ocean Pointe in Palm Beach Shores, near West Palm Beach. During this period of time, I started studying to be a wellness coach and took advantage of the many opportunities Marriott provided me such as receiving a Group Fitness Certification to teach Water Aerobics and Stretch classes, planning daily activities for all ages, and training in hospitality and working with others. These experiences prepared me to take the position as your Lifestyle Director with confidence. I was a bit nervous, but excited at first because instead of getting to know families that would be leaving in a week like at a hotel, I knew I would get to know families and residents long enough to really form relationships and better serve a community! I’m always open to hearing what our residents would like to see more of or how I can make activities more suitable to resident’s needs. My team and I are always here for you if you have an issue or a question. Words can’t express how much my team has helped me in this past year! Going from a team of twelve at hotels to a team of three, I wasn’t sure how it would work. However Barry, Rocco, and the amenity staff have been there for me at every event and are always there to encourage me! They are always open to giving me feedback on how to make things better and what went right or wrong at events. I owe so much of the success of our lifestyle program to my team and our volunteers! This is my first experience working with a Board of Directors and I have to say I got really lucky! They have supported me from day one and I am amazed at how hard they work to better this community! They give up so much of their time to have an open communication with me and are often seen at our events. My hope for this coming year is to learn from the events from the past and use it to fuel an incredible year that creates lasting memories for all of our families! I hope you consider taking the time to get more involved with your community. Whether that involves simply going to more community events, participating in one of our many committees, volunteering, or going to the Board of Directors meetings, it is so important to get involved! I hope everyone at Grand Hampton has had a wonderful year and I wish all of our residents, staff, and volunteers a Happy New Year! Sincerely, Nichole Miller, Your Lifestyle Director LIFESTYLES at GRAND HAMPTON / DECEMBER 2016

Nichole’s Tips on Preventing

Holiday Weight Gain

1. Have a healthy meal or snack BEFORE you go to a Holiday Party. When your stomach is full of nutritious food, you are less likely to eat every holiday cookie in sight. 2. Do not stand next to the buffet table! Walk around, socialize, get your groove on, but do not stand next to the buffet table for long periods of time where you will subconsciously pick at junk food. 3. Plan your cheat meals or drinks. You should be able to enjoy the holidays but try to keep it in proportion. If you want to drink more that evening, then choose healthier options for dinner. If you want the dessert, skip the bread. 4. Make your favorite meals healthy. There are so many recipes online that make simple switches to your holiday favorites so you can eat what you want without loading up on the calories. 5. Stay active! The holiday season is busy but try to do things with your family that involve playing sports, walking around, or join a fitness class that keeps you accountable and provides some stress relief. Schedule your work outs and hold yourself accountable to them. 6. Take time to destress. Many cravings are caused by stress and lead to emotional eating. Make sure to take time for yourself to enjoy the holidays and the many things to be thankful for! 7. Keep mint gum handy. Chewing mint gum or using mouth wash before an event will reduce your desire to eat as soon as you get to a holiday party. 4

Dear Members of the Grand Hampton Homeowners Association,

UPGRADED GATE ACCESS SYSTEM We, at Grand Hampton, take great pride in the many amenities offered to our residents. None add more value and ownership pride to Grand Hampton than the manned gate entry system. We have recently upgraded the ABDi entry system with scanning, face recognition, and mobile login capabilities and although the upgrade will help expedite the process of allowing your preferred guests and vendors into the community, without the assistance of YOU, the resident, the system will never run at its optimal best. Keeping your guest list current and updated, with correct contact information on your profile is crucial to the success of this upgrade. Utilizing the mobile app is another fast and simple way many residents can accomplish this. Information about the website is listed below. Please take the time to set your profile and guest list so the guards at the gate can get your family, friends, and preferred vendors in to see you as fast as possible. Website: log onto www.gateaccess.net/ login to get started. Your community code is: GH. You can also go to the eGrandhampton.com website, click on the gate access link to get you there. If you don’t know or have forgotten your Resident Access 4 digit security code, you would need to contact our office to obtain it at 813 973-8368. Ask for Barry Moon. Office hours are Monday- Friday from 9am-4pm. Mobile App: on your phone, download ABDi GateAccess, and follow the directions. We thank you and appreciate your cooperation in helping us mainstream our gate access system. Cordially, Your 2016 Grand Hampton HOA Board of Directors 6

Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Month, Alina Collado! Alina has volunteered at almost every event that needed volunteers for several months now! She is hard working, compassionate, and usually stays till the very end of an event to make sure everything is taken care of. She has volunteered for events such as the monthly Fresh Markets, the Oktoberfest 5K, and the Veteran’s Day Breakfast. Alina is a Junior in high school and is hoping to be accepted into her school’s National Honor Society which requires a certain amount of volunteer hours. Thanks to the hours she worked at Grand Hampton and various charity organizations, she was able to meet the requirements needed to apply to the National Honor Society. Alina has lived with her family in Grand Hampton for 11 years. She is a great role model for teens looking to volunteer in their community!

If you are interested in volunteering at Grand Hampton, please contact Grand Hampton’s Lifestyle Director, Nichole Miller at nmiller@melroselifestyle.com or call the office at (813)973-8368.

Alina Writes…

I would encourage others to volunteer so that they can help make their community a better place. Volunteering doesn’t even feel like it’s work because it is so much fun! Not only that, but it can help you get hours for amazing opportunities such as NHS and even scholarships like Bright Futures. It is such an honor being a part of this community; I would do anything to help it strive.

Elf on the Shelf and the winner of the best Elf

WINS 4 tickets to MOSI!

THE ELF ON THE SHELF FROM WIKIPEDIA, THE FREE ENCYCLOPEDIA The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition is a 2004 children’s picture book, written by Carol Aebersold and daughter Chanda Bell and illustrated by Coë Steinwart. The book tells a Christmas-themed story, written in rhyme, that explains how Santa Claus knows who is naughty and who is nice. It describes elves visiting children between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, after which they return to the North Pole until the next holiday season. The Elf on the Shelf comes in a keepsake box that features a hardbound picture book and a small soft toy in the form of a pixie scout elf. The story describes how Santa’s “scout Elves” hide in people’s homes to watch over events. Once everyone goes to bed, the scout elf flies back to the North Pole to report to Santa the activities, good and bad, that have taken place throughout the day. Before the family wakes up each morning, the scout elf flies back from the North Pole and hides. By hiding in a new spot each morning around the house, the scout elf and the family play an on-going game of hide and seek. The Elf on the Shelf explains that scout elves get their magic by being named. In the back of each book, families have an opportunity to write their elf ’s name and the date that they adopted it. Once the elf is named, the scout elf receives its special Christmas magic, which allows it to fly to and from the North Pole. The book tells how the magic might disappear if the scout elf is touched, so the rule for The Elf on the Shelf states, “There’s only one rule that you have to follow, so I will come back and be here tomorrow: Please do not touch me. My magic might go, and Santa won’t hear all I’ve seen or I know.” Although families are told not to touch their scout elf, they can speak to it and tell it all their Christmas wishes so that it can report back to Santa accurately. The story ends on Christmas Day with the elf leaving to stay with Santa for the rest of the year until the following Christmas season. ook around you. There’s a good chance someone you see each day is hungry. In Tampa Bay, more than 700,000 people are food insecure, meaning they lack consistent and easy access to safe, nutritionally adequate food. And the problem isn’t limited only to the homeless. Many who struggle to find adequate food are working adults, children and the elderly.

Founded in 1982, Feeding Tampa Bay is the largest food rescue and distribution organization in the community, serving a food-insecure population of more than 700,000 people in a 10-county area. Feeding Tampa Bay recovers surplus food donations from local growers, manufacturers, supermarkets, and organized community food drives and distributes it to those in need through a partnership network of more than 500 faithbased and other incorporated nonprofit hunger relief organizations. Over the past five years, Feeding Tampa Bay supplied more than 100 million pounds of food, enough to provide more than 3 million meals every month to those who would otherwise go hungry.• VISIT: FEEDINGTAMPABAY.ORG

am so excited to announce the introduction of Celluma to the Saddlebrook Spa! Last month the team of the Saddlebrook Spa went to the latest spa show in Las Vegas and was introduced to Celluma light. Celluma is a 3 in 1 device that treats acne, wrinkles and pain. The unique patented design has been proven with NASA researched technology and can be used anywhere on the body as a whole body wellness system. When I got the call that Celluma was here at Saddlebrook Spa I became excited that I would be one of the first to try it out along with the Saddlebrook Signature Facial and now, you can too! I went in to see Lauren for my signature facial and once again I was blown away with Saddlebrook and the Spa itself. The ambience, aroma and atmosphere of the women’s locker room with Amenity area including a steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi, and showers put me immediately at ease. Lauren came to get me for my facial and explained as we were going through the facial each step as she was doing it. We started off with a facial cleanse with Gelle then moved onto the Microderm scrub with steam. This was something new for me and it was amazing how it does such a great job of exfoliation on the top layers of the skin with a 30% Gly Pro Peel, making the skin feel so smooth! If you need any extractions your esthetician can take care of that for you also. We moved onto the mask and once the mask was removed with a soothing aloe brushed over the face it was time for a skin conditioner. Once the conditioner was applied it was time to try the Celluma light. The Celluma light was over my face for approximately 7 minutes, no pain, it is a result driven piece of equipment that gives me 3 treatments in one with no down time! After the Celluma light was removed Lauren moisturized my face and it was

Introducing Celluma Light Therapy at Saddlebrook Spa

time for me to head back to the changing room, I couldn’t believe my 80 minutes were already up, I could have stayed there all day however the instant results I received were amazing! Not only did I get to try the Celluma light therapy that has amazing results; I also had amazing products such as Epicuren, iS Clinincal and Intracenticals that are result driven products that were used during the session of my facial. I highly recommend anyone with pain, wrinkles (who wouldn’t love a simple easy way to help with anti-aging?!) and acne to come in and try Celluma. You will not be disappointed. Celluma is even safe for teenagers! Unfortunately, my son suffers with acne and I have already set up an appointment for a teen facial and Celluma so we can finally cure his acne. This has been a self-confidence issue for my son and knowing how effective and easy Celluma is, we have the hope to finally get rid of his acne.

Don’t hesitate! Call Saddlebrook Spa now and book your next spa appointment and try Celluma! You will understand why myself and Saddlebrook are excited to have this now in their spa line! Don’t forget… any 50-minute spa service that you book, you can spend the day at Saddlebrook at no additional charge, enjoy the spa then enjoy the rest of the day relaxing at the pool! Betty would do great in a semi-active home where she can play in a fenced in back yard and learn new skills with her family. Betty is very smart and mastered the doggy-dog right away with her foster family. We don't know yet how Betty would do with cats but for more information please contact Racing4Rescues@gmail.com.•

his little guy is Perseus. He is 8 months old and he’s very thankful to be our November kitty of the month! Perseus was rescued from the kill shelter along with his mom and siblings when he was only days old. He and his family went up for adoption. Everyone was adopted but him. Poor guy. He definitely deserves a loving furrever home. He is talkative, sleek and very cute little panther. He follows his foster mom everywhere and jumps in bed to cuddle every morning. He’s pretty fun too. He likes to wrestle. He gets along with dogs and has convinced non-cat people that cats are pretty cool. He’s the whole package. One more cool thing about Perseus is his beautiful coat. In the sunlight you can see auburn tiger stripes down his sides.•
