this is a self-portrait. the colors used are derived from the colors in the nonbinary flag (yellow, white, purple, black). this is the first time i have made a self-portrait that is tied to my gender. i made my pose look at peace to represent the selfassurance i feel now, as a young adult, about my gender. the leaves blowing in the “wind” behind me are a reminder that we are part of the natural world no matter how many times the dominant narrative tells us otherwise.
esta obra es un autorretrato. los colores usados son de la bandera no-binaria (amarillo, blanco, morado, y negro). esta es la primera vez que hago un autorretrato sobre mi género. puse lo que representa para mi sentirse segure de mi misme, como un adulte joven, sobre mi género. las hojas que soplan en “el viento” atrás de mi es un recordatorio que somos parte del mundo y del medioambiente sin importar lo que diga la sociedad dominante.
