This week, I chose to compare Japan to the United States. Japan and the United States have very different motivation styles. Japan has a “collectivist-success motivation” style, which is explained by Shiraev and Levy as the “individual’s contribution is seen as beneficial to a group or society” (2017).
This makes sense as Bosrock points out how “Japanese work in groups and must all agree when making decisions” (2018). In contrast, the United States has an “individualist-success motivation where Americans attitudes and actions are directed to the attainment of personal goals” (Shiraev and Levy, 2017).
This is evident as we as Americans tend to work extra hard when there is a reward in store. You can also look at the way each country ranks their employees and how they promote them.
