This week saw us back at Argos for the 7th round of the Summer Series on the 9th August. The water is still receding and the pegs are now available out of the trees, this is making some of the pegs difficult to place your fishing box in a safe position as the banks are becoming shear. Barbel ,still seem to be producing the top weights, with once again, Ian Dalzell and Bill Reade taking top places using “The Dink Dink” method. This method is where you fish the pole with a short length of line about 1 or 2 metres and with a small float (if you want to fish a float), a single grain of hemp is fished on a 16 or 18 hook and no shot. Hemp is then sprayed with a catapult or by hand in regular intervals, without a float the bite will be indicated on the tip of the pole being pulled sharply down into the water. 1st Ian (The Irish Wizard)

Dalzell with 27.180kg 2nd Bill (The Master) Reade with 16.200kg both fishing hemp up in the water 3rd Alan (The Chairman) Reid with 15.600 fishing the feeder using paste. I have been informed and also read it in the local newspaper, about a large fish kill on the river Segura in Guadamar. The report said that roughly one ton of fish were found dead in the water this is equivalent to 2000 1lb fish but would be a lot more if they were smaller fish. The cause of death was given as possible lack of oxygen due to the excessive hot weather or toxic pollution by agricultural use. I personally feel that lack of oxygen is not the problem as the amount of water flowing through the Segura at the moment is faster than I have seen it, in past years. Therefore, it remains a mystery to the exact cause of this dreadful loss of fish, and this is also the second incident of this type as earlier this year the reservoir at Zocco also seems now to be void of fish. Anyone with broken poles or rods in need of repair, I have now obtained a substantial amount of broken pole and rod pieces and if you need any repairs please contact me at the telephone number below. All details are available on our website www.abbeyangling. com or from the match secretary Terry Screen on 965 328 368

ANGLERS TOGETHER Members recently had a fishing trip to Murcia on the River Segura which was enjoyed by all.

The day started off a lot cooler than the past few days. The course at the moment is having most fairways worked on, but all to the good later. Today we had all our new team shirts on and looked good in blue. Our guests from as far as Iceland, Sweden, Ireland, and of course Great Britain said what a great course we have here. And now the golf results:The canny Scotsman Bill Mackay was at it again playing some very good golf and if it was not for a few wayward shots his score could have been in the 40’s. Close behind was our Jim Mawer, who got beaten on the back 9. Third was our singing DJ, Bob Gorrill. Results 1. Bill Mackay - 38 points. B.B.9. 2. Jim Mawer - 38 points. 3. Bob Gorrill - 33 points. N/P on 7 - Paul Webster. N/P on 10 - Bob Gorrill. Our next Wolfpack Day is 13th September. Tony McGlade. Secret

The members have been mugging up on the rules this week, plus settling in to their new home. Getting used to the pistes has been a priority. When discussing the game we discovered it is more than 3,000 years old. One of our members is going to look for a photo of an ancestor who lived in the mountains and helped start the game. Apparently he was on lookout duty upon the mountain, chipping away at a rock, and

virtually discovered the ‘ball’. It fitted into his hand snugly, and, on impulse, he threw it. It rolled down the mountain and came to rest against a useless piece of stone they called a ruby. This man, Peta Nca, was overjoyed. His friends were amazed. So, whenever he was on sentry duty he made more balls for his friends. The entries for our Oct. 9th. Ladies triples Comp. Are starting to come in, contact Nancy at 966 199 288 if you are interested. Pretty Boy!
