REIMAGINE

Autumn is the perfect season for reimagining the world around us. As the leaves change color and the air turns crisp, nature itself transforms, offering a reminder of the beauty in letting go and embracing change. It’s a time to rethink routines, cozy up our surroundings, and explore new possibilities as we get prepared for the upcoming holidays—whether it’s reimagining our homes to fit our lifestyle better (Stately Living page 22), experimenting with seasonal flavors in the kitchen (Pumpkin Passion recipes page 70), or even reflecting on personal growth. Just as autumn reimagines the landscape, we too can seize this moment to reinvent our perspectives— making room for professional renewal and personal transformation as the season unfolds.

Our cover story in this 18th Annual ‘Who’s Who’ Issue highlights owner Rick Baker and the experts at Stately Design and Renovation. Their ability to help local homeowners renew their love for the place they call home is at the very core of reimagining your home’s functionality. Renovation is more than just restoring or updating a space—it’s an opportunity to reimagine what it can become. By blending creativity with purpose, we can transform an outdated room into something entirely new, something that not only meets our present needs, but also reflects our vision for the future. Whether it’s reconfiguring a layout, incorporating modern design elements, or enhancing functionality—renovation allows us to rethink the potential of a space. It’s about reimagining the old into something vibrant, dynamic, and truly inspiring. Renovation has the power to reimagine the ordinary, transforming it into something extraordinary.

Twelve years ago today, my world was thrust into an immediate reimagination when my husband suddenly passed away. In that difficult season, I chose to look at the changes unfolding around me as an opportunity to not only grieve, but to reimagine and renovate the entire layout of our lives—both for my children and for myself. Embracing that mindset of renewal allowed us to rebuild and create the life we have now—one shaped by resilience and hope.

As we move forward into the heart of autumn, we are reminded of the power that comes with reimagining and embracing change—both in our homes and in our personal lives. Whether it’s the physical transformation of a space through renovation or the deeper emotional journey of rebuilding after loss, there is immense beauty in the process of renewal. Just as autumn brings the promise of change, we too can embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. Let this season be a time for you to reflect on where you can reimagine possibilities, embrace growth, celebrate creativity, find resilience, and see the vision required to turn possibilities into reality, reminding us that through each renovation—whether of a home or a life—we have the chance to create something extraordinary. We can discover how reimagination can lead us to a brighter future.

The “Wizard of Westwood,” John Wooten once said, “Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.” Does this mean we are to esteem one while downplaying the other? Not at all. Both are equally important for the Believer.

Both are equally important for the Believer. As Followers of Christ, we must make sure that our attitudes and behavior always reflect the love of God, even when it’s not reciprocated by others. We accomplish this by clothing ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience (Colossians 3:12).

Proverbs 16:7 promises that when our ways please the Lord, he maketh even our enemies to be at peace with us. Will we be liked and admired by everyone? Absolutely not! Our reputation is based on what other people think or believe about us. Whether accurate or inaccurate, it’s their perception— which means even the friendliest, kindhearted, loving person will, at some point, face opposition.

In 3 John 1:9-10, the Apostle John writes, “I sent a brief letter to the church about this, but proud Diotrephes, who loves to push himself forward as the leader of the Christians there, does not admit my authority over him and refuses to listen to me. When I come I will tell you some of the things he is doing and what wicked things he is saying about me and what insulting language he is using. He not only refuses to welcome the missionary travelers himself but tells others not to, and when they

do he tries to put them out of the church.” In verse 11, he goes on to say, “Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good.” Similarly, while working in a local doctor’s office, I had the task of collecting payments from patients. On a particular occasion, there was a patient who became hostile about the “upfront” cost she was required to pay. I explained that the amount owed was determined by her insurance company. Enraged with the “amount due,” she called me a “money hungry monster.” (Even though she owed the office $250 from a previous visit).

“A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.”

— Proverbs 22:1

She continued shouting obscenities while looking around at patients in the waiting area, apparently hoping others would “jump on the bandwagon.” Everyone ignored her. I stood there (quietly) and endured her tirade. When she finally calmed down, I politely asked, “How do you want to pay for your visit today?” She tossed her credit

card at me and continued to grumble. I gave her a receipt and informed her that the nurse would be right out to accompany her back for her visit.

Soon after, she wrote a very nasty review. The things she said were hurtful and untrue. I wanted to defend my reputation by responding. Instead, I decided to “turn the other cheek” (Matthew 5:39). After all, her opinion of me was just that—her opinion. And she was entitled to that. No sense in trying to change her perception of me. Truth be told, her “beef” should have been with her health insurance company. They were the ones who determined her financial obligations. I was just abiding by the contract and collecting what “they said” she owed.

Although I had been verbally attacked, I didn’t counterattack. I had my character to uphold—as an employee, but more so as a Christian. It’s human nature to want to defend ourselves when we feel we are being berated, particularly when the criticism holds no truth. However, it is not our job as Christians to chase down every rumor, or respond to every unkind word spoken against us. Sometimes, saying nothing is actually saying a lot. God will help us to hold our peace when we learn to hold our tongue (Psalms 34:13).

Character is Key

Additionally, we must do everything in our power to “have a good conscience, so that, when we are slandered, those who revile our good behavior in Christ are put to shame” (1 Peter 3:16). Allow people to believe what they choose. Their perception does not alter God’s love. I encourage each of you to live your life above reproach so that when others try to accuse you of being rotten fruit, God can remind them that you’re the apple of His eye (Psalms 17:8). — Be blessed!

When you’re struggling there’s nothing more helpful than knowing you’re not the only one. Chalk Dust: Reflections from a Teacher’s First Year by Curby Alexander offers that reassurance to anyone starting a new career or venture, but especially to those in the business of education.

Chalk Dust REFLECTIONS FROM A TEACHER’S FIRST YEAR

Early in the book the author confesses, “I stumbled into my career as an educator” starting with a job at the preschool on his college campus. He eventually found himself light years away from his hometown of Casper, Wyoming teaching fourth grade in Grapevine, Texas. His book details the ups and many downs of that first year of teaching.

Learning how to gain his students’ cooperation and manage the classroom was one of Alexander’s first hurdles. But he quickly reached a place where he wondered if his students were even learning anything. “In reality,” he says, “I was walking the path of every new teacher, but the constant state of learning made me focus on my incompetence rather than seeing the progress I was making each day.”

In addition to learning how to navigate the dangerous minefield of the modern day elementary classroom, Alexander also found himself in a completely new geographic location

with few human connections. Luckily, Alexander had long distance encouragement from his parents and other experienced fellow teachers offered support. Slowly, over the course of that first year, he came to understand that, “I had to be okay with being bad at something new,” a lesson we all must learn at some point in our lives.

One of the most entertaining parts of the book relates to his first experience with a class pet. Alexander says he inherited “a classroom pet against my will.” A family with children at the school was moving and couldn’t take their hamsters along. So “Fuzzy” moved in.

Lack of information on how to care for the critter, where to buy supplies and how to integrate him into the classroom combine to provide a humorous example of just one of the hurdles during this inaugural year of teaching. When he realized someone would have to care for Fuzzy over the weekends, Alexander instituted “Fuzzy’s Travels.” Students would be allowed to host Fuzzy as a reward for their good behavior. All went fairly well until the Monday that an imposter came to school in Fuzzy’s place. Alexander winds up his book with a letter to his younger self, which provides a warm and uplifting close to an encouraging story.

Evolution of a 4th grade teacher as he grapples with feelings of incompetence and vulnerability
More than just a memoir, this book is a testament to the indomitable spirit of educators

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Curby Alexander is a Professor of Professional Practice in the TCU College of Education. He began his career as a teacher in Grapevine, and throughout his time as a public educator he taught several different grades and had many roles. Curby has spent the last 18 years teaching at the University-level, where he now helps prepare aspiring teachers for a career as professional educators. Curby is a proud alum of Utah State University, Colorado State University, and the University of Virginia. When he isn’t teaching, Curby spends as much time as possible with his wife Gina and their twin sons, Sam and Nate. Chalk Dust is his first book.

What Sets Us Apart | We go above and beyond. We’re here to serve you and build lifelong relationships by offering continuous support. As leading experts in Medicare, we’re grounded in ethics, trust, and faith—values you can rely on. We also believe in the power of prayer and pray for our clients daily, trusting that God has a good plan for your life.

What You Can Expect | There is absolutely no charge to clients for our services and we are available on a direct basis every day. Medicare supplement plans are standardized by federal government, so there will be no difference in coverage from one carrier to another. The only differences are cost, stability, and service.

Our Why | Simply, this work is our calling. When I started The Benefit Link my passion was deeply rooted in personal experiences. At the tender age of seven, my sister was diagnosed with diabetes, and

by 20, she had undergone a kidney transplant. She was on Medicare at age 23 and sadly she lost her battle with the disease at 35. I also walked alongside both of my parents through their journeys with COPD and cancer, both on Medicare. We know firsthand how important it is to have peace-of-mind during these transitions, and it’s our mission to ensure you receive the very best coverage. Now, “Our Why” is to share that same passion with each of our clients. To never stop advocating for them and continue supporting them with a servant’s heart.

Our Greatest Accomplishment | As independent representatives—not tied to any single insurance carrier—we have the freedom to compare plans from all the major carriers. We pride ourselves on being knowledgeable by tracking premiums, rate increases from carriers, and trends across companies, so you can make an informed decision about your healthcare. With hundreds of testimonials and success stories nationwide, we are proud of the difference we make, always at no cost to you.

Making A Difference | We know how personal these decisions can be, even though many insurance companies don’t seem to recognize that. While Medicare is standardized, various plans, supplements, and options can be overwhelming. We offer objective, trusted guidance to ensure you get exactly what’s in your best interest. At the heart of what we do is serving with excellence—a level of care that’s often missing today. By developing personal, one-on-one relationships, we provide the support you need for all your Medicare concerns. The peace-of-mind we offer is invaluable.

Our Promise | We named ourselves "The Benefit Link" because we desire to be the link between you and your insurance. We promise you’ll always have support, seven days a week, and someone to rely on as your Medicare advocate.

David Martin & Son Roofing

Protecting Your Biggest Investment Since 1996 Elevating the Roofing Industry

We’re focused on building long-term relationships—one roof at a time. With over 27 years of experience, we deliver quality work done right the first time. You can trust us to repair your roof swiftly and restore your home’s protection.

Why Choose Us | We truly love our community and helping our neighbors protect their biggest investment—their homes. And David Martin & Son Roofing has been doing exactly that with honesty and integrity since 1996. When our clients have any roofing needs, they know who to call—and they know that we will always be there to help!

What Sets Us Apart | Even if our clients don’t know the first thing about roofing, they will rely on the truth—and the truth always has a sweet sound to it. They’ll remember that we always tell the truth.

Commitment | David Martin & Son Roofing is dedicated to safeguarding homeowners from the challenges posed by roofing problems, including damage from wind, hail and lightning. With a deep commitment to quality and customer care, we offer comprehensive roofing solutions that ensure homes remain secure and well-maintained. Whether you are dealing with the aftermath of a storm or planning a major renovation, local homeowners trust David Martin & Son Roofing to deliver top-notch results and exceptional service.

Defining Success | We define our success by being able to help and serve others. We are driven by a philosophy that our success will ultimately be determined more by the number of people we help, rather than the amount of roofs we install.

Giving Back | Paramount to us is relationshipbuilding and this carries over into our community involvement by contributing to many local nonprofits, city, chamber, sports and schools organizations. Most recently, a local high school needed to rebuild their baseball field, so David Martin & Son Roofing stepped in with a $20k donation to help them reach

their goal. We’ve also been sponsors of the school’s basketball summer camp for the last 12 years. As longtime Colleyville residents, we’re deeply rooted in the community and will always be here when you need us. Unlike those fly-by-night roofing companies that chase storms and leave homeowners high-and-dry, we are a trusted local presence you can count on. Continuing to support local children in sporting programs in our school districts is important to us, in addition to also contributing to local community police departments. Most of all, we support all of our United States soldiers who lay down their lives for us and our country.

Greatest Professional Accomplishment | It is an honor to be recognized in the industry as one of the top roofing companies in the area. We’re proud to have been designated as a ‘Best’ and ‘Top’ roofer consistently within Tarrant County by the community and local publications. We have been voted the Top Roofing Company in Tarrant County by Society Life Magazine for three consecutive years—2021, 2022 and 2023. In addition, we’re honored to be inductees into Marquis Who’s Who in America—David was in 2021 and I was inducted last year in 2022.

Woman of Influence | Jennifer’s been recognized as one of the Top Women in Business by Marquis Who’s Who Publications and Society Life Magazine, as well as other notable publications. Under her leadership, David Martin & Son Roofing has been named the Best Roofing Company in Tarrant County for two consecutive years. The company has also earned the title of Best Roofer in Colleyville for 7 years running, and in Fort Worth for four years. Additionally, Society Life readers have honored them as the top roofing company in Tarrant County for four years straight, with the "Tops in Tarrant" award from 2021 to 2024.

You Should Know | We fight dishonesty with honesty. We know that a handful of dishonest contractors can tarnish the reputation of the greater roofing industry. And while we can’t control how those bad operators run their businesses, we stand on integrity, trust and strong personal relationships to build goodwill for our company.

DFW Dental Implant Center

Combining Art + Science to Create Beautiful Smiles Prosthodontist Steven Branberg, DDS

Specialty | With other dentists, if a patient needs help with multiple missing or decayed teeth, they usually have to bounce between different dental offices to get everything they need. With The DFW Dental Implant Center, however, even the most complicated dental cases can all be handled in just one convenient location. Dr. Steven Branberg is a general dentist and prosthodontic expert, meaning he has extensive knowledge and experience repairing and replacing teeth using the most advanced techniques and materials available today. He’s able to perform the entire dental implant procedure from start to finish. His goal for every patient is for them to have a smile that looks great, feels even better, and can be trusted to last a lifetime. After Dr. Branberg rehabs someone’s smile, he and the rest of his team are also able to provide ongoing preventive care to ensure their patients enjoy optimal oral health for decades to come.

Why Choose a Prosthodontist | Patients choose a Prosthodontist because of their advanced education and training, efficiency, and expertise with advanced technology. Prosthodontists are extensively trained in state-of-the-art techniques and procedures for treating complex dental conditions and restoring optimum function and esthetics. The term “prostho” actually means replacement and “dontist” means dealing with teeth. Essentially, Prosthodontists are the recognized experts when anything needs to be replaced in your mouth. This can range from a single tooth, multiple teeth, or all teeth and gums in the mouth. While many other dentists can do some of these treatments, Prosthodontists are the specialists dedicated to this type of care, and why so many trust their expertise.

What Clients Can Expect | Unlike dentures or dental bridges, getting dental implants is a multi-step process that spans the course of several months. While this may seem like quite a while, it’s this thorough and unique placement that ensures the results are comfortable and long-lasting. In fact, dental implants have the potential to last a lifetime! During your consultation, Dr. Branberg will walk you through your entire treatment plan step-by-step.

What Sets Us Apart | What sets Dr. Branberg apart from other dentists and prosthodontists is that he completes every stage of the dental implant treat-

ment himself—including both the surgical placement and the restoration. He’s also given numerous presentations to general dentists on various aspects of prosthodontics, including lectures titled A Systematic Approach to Complete Dentures, Removable Partial Dentures for the General Practitioner, and Implant and Tooth-borne Full-Mouth Reconstructions. He believes that sharing his knowledge and experience with other dental colleagues only helps to improve every patient’s results!

Dental Implant Difference | The reason dental implants are so special is that they are the only restoration that brings back an entire tooth both above and below the gumline. Compared to traditional tooth replacements, dental implants provide a stable foundation by replacing the missing roots and fusing directly to the jawbone. With dental implants, your replacement teeth are bonded securely, so you can enjoy a truly lifelike smile. This is why dental implants have become the gold standard in the dentistry field for missing or failing teeth.

Improving Lives | Dr. Branberg (also known as “Dr. B”) started practicing here in Texas in 2011, and he’s proud to be a dedicated Colleyville dentist and prosthodontist—helping countless patients achieve incredible smile transformations. He not only improves their dental health, but also helps them feel more outgoing and confident in their everyday life.

You Should Know | Thanks to his prosthodontic training, Dr. Branberg knows a thing or two about replacing missing teeth, having rebuilt countless smiles over the course of his career. Whenever someone comes to see him wanting to replace their missing teeth, his first recommendation is always dental implants. Why? Because they offer the best of everything in a single treatment—unmatched aesthetics, supreme functionality, and sturdy construction that can last for decades. When you are ready to enjoy a full and confident smile again, dental implants are your best answer—and you can get them at The DFW Dental Implant Center in Colleyville. Is your smile in need of some serious help? If so, Dr. Steven Branberg is ready to provide everything you need at the highest possible level. To learn more schedule your free one-on-one consultation today.

Ally’sWish

greater good

Ally’s Wish exists to grant wishes of moms struggling with terminal illnesses. What if it were me? What would I want? That’s what the nonprofit’s founders kept thinking when considering how to minister best to Allyson Hendrickson — their inspiration for Ally’s Wish. They decided that they would want to have precious moments with their kids and family. So, that’s what Ally’s Wish is all about. Making those final days and moments special.

SL

greater good

ALLY’S WISH, INC. IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION BASED IN NORTH TEXAS DEVOTED TO GRANTING THE LAST WISH TO YOUNG, TERMINALLY ILL MOTHERS WITH CHILDREN. INSPIRED BY THE LATE ALLYSON HENDRICKSON, ALLY’S WISH PROVIDES A MEMORY FOR THE FAMILY THAT WILL LAST A LIFETIME. WISHES ARE GRANTED WITH GIFTS, SERVICES, TRANSPORTATION, LODGING, OR ANY OTHER WISH THE MOTHER MAY HAVE. YOU CAN MAKE A MOM'S WISH COME TRUE!

THE INSPIRATION

Allyson Hendrickson is the inspiration for Ally’s Wish—and in her own words here is her story:

“The story of my walk with Christ began when I was only 6 years old. I wasn’t old enough to have a long track record of sin, but I understood enough to know that I needed Jesus. I grew up in church, and my journey was pretty typical. There were no major tragedies or crises–until just a few years ago, when I was diagnosed with

ALLY’SWISH

Ally’s Wish, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes, specifically the sole purpose of Ally’s Wish is to provide a last “wish” to young, terminally ill mothers with small children. We hope to provide a memory for the family that will last a lifetime. The goal is to do this by providing services, gifts, transportation, lodging, or any other “wish” the mother may have. They will provide this through fundraising and donations given through Ally’s Wish, Inc. — a 501c3 approved nonprofit organization.

ovarian cancer. Surgery took care of the tumor at that time, but last February I received the devastating news that the cancer had returned and had spread to several places in my body. I had a major surgery and long hospital stay, followed by intense chemotherapy treatments. Now, over a year later, I am still undergoing treatment on a regular basis. I have been told that, in spite of the aggressive treatment, the cancer will almost certainly come back at some point. Cancer has turned my safe little world upside down. I lost my dignity, my hair, and my

confidence. I have been sicker than I ever imagined possible. I have listened to my husband and my children cry. I have missed out on a lot of life while I lay in bed. But the one thing that has remained the same is my Jesus. Even on the worst days, when I thought it would be better if I could just die, my God was there. I have been angry and shaken my fist toward the heavens, and He still loves me. I have grieved the loss of the old me, yet He has kept his promise to “do something new” (Isaiah 43:18). I sometimes wish that cancer had never happened to

me. But it did, and I’m not entirely sure I would trade the experience, and here’s why: Over the last year, my sons (ages 9, 7, and 5) have gotten to witness the goodness of God first-hand. They have seen our friends and church family step up in countless ways to minister to us and help our family navigate the dark roads of this disease. They have suffered great loss, but they have witnessed unspeakable joy and hope. They have heard me tell them over and over again that God is in control and that He loves us. In the middle of the cancer chaos, my oldest son made his profession of faith over the summer. I will never forget the great privilege I had to kneel with him and listen to him pray the same life-changing prayer I prayed many years ago. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Life is hard. But God is good all the time. This is my story, this is my song!” [ “Sweet Allyson, the inspiration for Ally’s Wish and beloved friend, daughter, mom, wife, and so much more lost her battle with cancer. However, we rejoice that she is now healed and praising the One that made her, saved her and has taken her to heaven to be with Him.” ] Ally’s Wish lives on in us.

THE DALLAS MARGARITA BALL 2024

EXCLUSIVE, YOU HAVE TO KNOW SOMEBODY TO GET IN

When your annual event is so legendary that it’s listed on a Wikipedia page, you know that the celebration is epic! With over 12,000 guests attending, the Dallas Margarita Society, Inc. (dba Dallas Children’s Charities) 2024 Margarita Ball has grown into the largest invitation-only charity black-tie gala in the world! However, there is more to this event than having fun. The Dallas Margarita Society’s (DMS) mission is to raise money, provide gifts for ‘at-risk’ youth in the DFW area, and support the many local children’s charities in the North Texas Community during Christmas and throughout the year. This powerhouse of an organization was conceived when a small group of businessmen decided to throw a party and invite their friends and their business associates. After 47 years since its inception, the rest is history. Since 1977, the DMS and supporters have contributed millions of hours of service and provided millions of dollars in cash, toys, computers, school and exercise gear. Here are a few of their key milestones: 1977 was The first Annual Margarita Festival and Ball was held at North Park Inn on November 5th. There were 3,000 guests in attendance, and every guest bought a toy to gain admission. In 1988, DMS hosted its First Annual Margarita Golf Tournament, now called the Dallas Margarita Charity Golf Classic. Still swinging clubs, chipping shots, and putting away, the Charity Golf Classic is one of the most fun and entertaining golf tournaments you will ever play in! Then, in 1989, the Dallas Margarita Society entered a float into the St. Patty’s Day Parade. To this day, you can have fun with them and enjoy the Greenville Avenue festivities. In 2001, the Society introduced its First Annual Las Vegas-style casino and Lounge with dancing, Blackjack, Roulette, Craps, shadow box dancers, and DJs. In 2022, the DMS hosted its First Annual Silent Auction during the Dallas Margarita Ball. Today, over 800 art items, gift certificates, weekend getaways, and sports history are presented in their silent auction! Now, the Dallas Margarita Society hosts over 12,000 guests in what has become the largest invitation-only charity black-tie gala in the world! Some may ask, “How do I get an invitation to the Dallas Margarita Ball?” To be invited, you must know one of the Dallas Margarita Society's directors, directors emeritus, members, or sponsors. Still, anyone can come to their Happy Hours and develop that friendship. What else were you doing today? Come join the fun!

This cheese ball is easy to make and it’s the perfect party recipe because you can make it days in advance. I love this served with apples, celery, and crackers. I highly recommend taking the time to grate your own cheese. Don’t buy the pre-grated kind. It won’t be as creamy and it won’t blend as nicely. Be sure to pull the cream cheese out of the fridge a couple hours before you make this so it’s room temperature. Cold cream cheese doesn’t blend nicely. To get the fun pumpkin grooves, just tie a few strands of kitchen twine tightly around the cheese ball after you’ve wrapped it in plastic wrap. Then add a broccoli stalk and you’ve got yourself a little pumpkin-shaped cheese ball!

cheddar cheese

1 8-oz package cream cheese, at room temperature

1 8-oz container chive and onion cream cheese

2 tsp paprika

Broccoli stalk

For serving: crackers, apple slices, and celery

(1) Grate cheddar cheese. Combine with cream cheese, chive and onion cream cheese, and paprika until well blended.

(2) Form a ball and place the cheese ball on plastic wrap. Wrap the cheese ball, then, if desired, squish it down a bit to make it look more like a fairytale pumpkin. Tie three pieces of kitchen twine around the cheeseball to form pumpkin ridges, then refrigerate for at least four hours. This can be made several days ahead of time! ................................................................................................................

(3) To serve, unwrap the cheese ball, then top with a broccoli stalk

“stem.” Delicious served with crackers, apple slices, and celery.

Hummus

Pumpkin

A perfect pumpkin appetizer! Hummus is a pretty easy dish. If you have tahini (sesame paste) in the house, you can make it in five minutes in the food processor. Pumpkin hummus is a fun fall twist to the popular starter. The honey and pinch of freshly grated nutmeg (a pantry staple at my house) makes this dip a winner. Serve it with pita chips in a shallow bowl drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with paprika, pumpkin seeds, and chopped Italian parsley.

oil, paprika for garnish

(1) Drain and rinse chickpeas. Carefully pinch each one to remove and discard the skin.

(2) Blend all of the ingredients in a food processor until smooth.

(3) Place in a shallow bowl and drizzle a bit of extra virgin olive oil on top. Sprinkle with paprika, pumpkin seeds, and parsley. Serve immediately with pita chips. I think this would be just delicious served with beet chips... Enjoy!

Note: Can be stored in the fridge for several days.

This is the perfect breakfast for Halloween or Thanksgiving, or any autumn morning really! This recipe makes quite a lot of pancakes, 12 to 16 thick pancakes. The pumpkin and greek yogurt make them super hearty. Spiced with cinnamon and freshly grated nutmeg, these pancakes make me feel so cozy every time.

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 tsp salt

2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg

3 eggs

1 cup plain Greek yogurt

3/4 c milk (I used 1%)

1 cup canned pumpkin

1 tsp vanilla .................................................................

(1) Whisk together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg in medium-sized bowl.

2) Beat eggs, Greek yogurt, milk, pumpkin, and vanilla until smooth.

.................................................................

(3) Pour egg-pumpkin mixture into flour mixture and stir well to combine.

(4) Heat electric skillet to 325 degrees. Add a tablespoon of butter and pour about 1/4 cup of pancake batter onto skillet. You should be able to fit six pancakes. Cook for 3 minutes, flip, and cook for an addition 3 minutes. Serve with butter and maple syrup.

I love pumpkin and I have long thought it should be enjoyed year-round in the states like it is in the Caribbean. I used my homemade pumpkin purée, but you could of course sub out store-bought pumpkin. If you’ve never made pumpkin purée before, I highly recommend reading my recipe at TheRoseTable.com — it’s fun, thrifty and delicious!

INGREDIENTS

FOR CAKE:

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp(ish) freshly ground nutmeg

1 cup packed dark brown sugar

3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature

2 cups homemade pumpkin puree (or 1 can pumpkin purée)

2 eggs, room temperature

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup 1% milk

1 cup mini semisweet chocolate chips, tossed with 1 Tbsp flour

FOR THE GLAZE:

2/3 cup heavy whipping cream

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

SL Pumpkinpassion

(1) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Carefully grease and flour a standard bundt pan.

(2) In a bowl, sift and whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

(3) In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat butter until fluffy.

Add packed brown sugar and beat until mixture is a fluffy light brown. Add eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl, then mix in pumpkin and vanilla. Add the dry mixture alternatively with the milk, ending with the milk. Use a spatula to mix in chocolate chips.

(4) Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Move to a cooling rack and let cool for about half an hour. Flip the cake upside down onto cooling rack and let cool completely before glazing.

Pumpkin

(5) To make the glaze — put chips in a heat-proof bowl. Heat cream just until it starts to bubble along the edges. Pour cream over chocolate chips. Wait two minutes then whisk until smooth and glossy. Let sit for 10 minutes before slowly pouring on the cake so that the ganache cascades down the sides.

WHISKEY CAKE

Whiskey lovers, raise a glass! Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar is officially open in Fort Worth’s Alliance Town Center, bringing its signature craft cocktails, bold farm-to-fork menu and highenergy atmosphere. Whiskey Cake was founded in 2010 in Plano and has since grown to 10 locations across Texas, Oklahoma and Florida. Located at 2849 Heritage Trace Parkway, this highly anticipated opening marks the brand’s first Fort Worth location. Known for its rustic charm and farmto-fork dining experience, the restaurant has made a name for itself by offering locally sourced ingredients, craft cocktails and its signature dessert: Whiskey Cake!

Whiskey Cake’s ambiance effortlessly blends modern aesthetics with a rustic, farmhouse feel. Featuring reclaimed wood, vintage light fixtures and an open kitchen design—this casual yet refined setting makes it an excellent spot for family dinners and after-hours social gatherings. The concept centers around sustainability and supporting local farmers. Their commitment to using fresh, seasonal ingredients is evident in its ever-changing menu— which is designed to showcase the best of what local farms and artisans have to offer. This farm-to-table approach ensures that each Whiskey Cake dish is packed with flavor and nutritional value, while minimizing the restaurant’s carbon footprint.

Food here is a celebration of comfort cuisine with a modern twist. The menu is extensive and caters to a variety of tastes, offering dishes that range from hearty and indulgent to light and healthy. From the starters, the Deviled Eggs come highly recommended— featuring a smoky paprika finish and crispy bacon topping. The Local Goat Cheese Fondue is another crowdpleaser, served with bread and veggies for dipping.

Whiskey Cake’s main courses offer a balance between meat and vegetarian options. My not-to-be-missed dish here is the Chicken and Waffles—featuring buttermilk-fried chicken atop a soft waffle, drizzled in maple syrup, accompanied with a sausage crumble cream gravy. Another standout dish is the Mesquite Grilled Short Rib. It is slowcooked to perfection, served with mashed potatoes alongside seasonal vegetables—perfect for a cooler Fall evening. For plant-based diners, the Vegan Curry Bowl is a hearty option featuring a medley of vegetables and grains in a delicately spicy coconutcurry sauce.

Whiskey Cake also offers its awardwinning weekend brunch on Saturdays and Sundays—featuring indulgent dishes like the Carrot Cake Pancake Stack and the savory Wagyu Wake-Up Hash. Other popular items include a traditional Eggs Benedict and the Duck Chilaquiles—a fusion of rich duck meat, crisp tortilla chips and spicy salsa. Bottomless mimosas are also available during brunch, making it the perfect kick-off or end cap to your weekend.

As its name suggests, Whiskey Cake places a strong emphasis on its cocktail and whiskey offerings. The bar features house-made syrups, fresh-squeezed juices and garden-to-glass creations that showcase the freshest seasonal

ingredients. Whiskey Cake’s drink menu includes whiskey flights, a variety of Old Fashioneds, a strong selection of IPAs on tap and even zero-proof “mocktails”—ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy. They also highlight a carefully curated whiskey collection—available in 2 ounce pours, spotlighting the best from local and national distilleries. Signature cocktails like Guava Gimlet and the Speakeasy Margarita are already local favorites, made with fresh herbs, house-made syrups and high-quality spirits. If you’re looking for a new take on an Old Fashioned, I recommend the American Pie, featuring browned-butter Evan Williams 1783 Bourbon, vanilla and peach bitters.

No meal at Whiskey Cake is complete without their namesake dessert—the Whiskey Cake. This dessert is a moist toffee-topped cake made with dates, pecans and a whiskey-infused caramel sauce. It’s served warm, with a dollop of freshly whipped cream. The balance of flavors, from the sweetness of the

caramel to the subtle bitterness of the whiskey, makes this dessert truly exceptional. Even for chocolate lovers like myself, this is not to be missed.

Whiskey Cake is known for its great food—and for its exceptional service. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive, contributing to the overall dining experience. Another standout feature is its dedication to sustainability and supporting the local community. By sourcing ingredients from nearby farms and suppliers, the restaurant helps promote local businesses. This commitment extends to their wastereduction efforts as well, including composting and recycling initiatives that aim to make their operations as eco-friendly as possible.

Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar offers more than just a meal—it’s your new neighborhood joint for craft cocktails and farm-fresh comfort food, paired with a curated atmosphere and local ingredients—because good food tastes even better when it’s grown locally.
