Principle Two: The Divinity of Mankind By the Reverend Nancy Norman [Ed. Note: This is the second of five articles in a series on the Unity Truth Principles. It is designed to provide a deeper understanding of the thinking that forms the basis for our teachings and lives.]
“Man is the expression of God, and is ever one with His Perfect Life, Love, Intelligence, and Substance.”—from What Unity Teaches About Man. One of Jesus' greatest teachings is that we are both human and divine. We are spiritual beings living in a spiritual universe, governed by spiritual law. How often we forget this very important law. We develop spiritual amnesia and lose remembrance of our divine heritage. Our true identity is this: We are God's beloved creation in whom He is well pleased; we are made in the image and likeness of God; we are individualized expressions of God. We did not create ourselves, we are the creation of God. It has been said that “Mankind is God masquerading on earth.” When we look beyond flesh and bone, every one of us is the presence of God, Perfect Life, Love, Intelligence and Substance. We need to stop and think about who we really are and learn to identify ourselves correctly as spiritual beings. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Man is a piece of the universe made alive.” “And God said, 'Let us make mankind in our image, after our likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth'.” (Genesis 1:26-27). Often it can appear that our limiting factors are outer situations or the behavior of other people. The Truth is, the only thing that limits us is forgetting “who we are” and “whose we are.” The story of creation in Genesis tells us who we are. It tells us we were made in the image and likeness of God. That means, we are more than human beings, we are Spiritual Beings. As children of God, we are loved without condition and always have immediate access to God's compassion, generosity and graciousness. Understanding and
realizing the Truth of what and whose we are leads to the demonstration of the good God wills for each of us. Paganini, the great violinist, appeared before an audience one evening and made the discovery, just as they ended their applause, that there was something wrong with his violin. He looked closely and saw that it was not his famous and valuable instrument. He turned to his audience and told them there had been some mistake, and he did not have his own violin. He stepped behind the curtain thinking his violin was there, and discovered that someone had stolen it. They had left an old secondhand one in its place. He paused for a moment, then went before the audience and said, “Ladies and gentlemen, I will show you that the music is not in the violin, but is in the soul.” And he played as he had never played before. Out of that secondhand, poorly made violin, beautiful music poured forth until the audience was enraptured. The applause almost lifted the roof off the building. When we know the Truth of our own Divinity, we can walk out on the stage of our life and demonstrate to the world that the music is not in conditions, not in things, not in other people, but the music of our life is within us. We are both human and divine, made in the image and likeness of God. Let us come out of the spiritual amnesia that has kept us in bondage and begin living the lives we were created to live. Don't let the outer appearance of things and people command all your attention. Remember, as children of God we are heirs to all His richness and goodness. We are Spiritual Beings living in a spiritual universe, governed by spiritual law. “Man is the expression of God, and is ever one with His Perfect Life, Love, Intelligence and Substance.” — What Unity Teaches About Man. [Principle Three will be in the Jan./Feb. 2017 issue]

Idea: Elimination is our ability to say “NO” to that which is no longer useful or helpful to us in our lives. We let go of negative thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and conditions that we have previously allowed to lodge in our consciousness, in our bodies, or in our affairs.
Class Thoughts December Power: Life Color: Red Disciple: Judas Body Location: Reproductive organs Idea: The Christ-power of LIFE is the vibrating energy within us that inspires us to action. We are the ever-renewing, the ever-unfolding expression of infinite life.
Illumination I am alive, alert, awake, joyous, and enthusiastic about my life! God fills me with enough Life to accomplish His plan through me. God’s good Life glows in me.
I am blessed as I release all that is not for my highest good. Not by power nor by might, but by God’s spirit within, this is being done. I relax, I trust, and I let go.
Health I am vigorous, vital, and able to heal, mend, and regenerate. Life is the Divine Idea behind health which makes wholeness possible for all. God’s good Life glows in me.
Health I now willingly let go of every thought, condition, or relationship that in any way limits my perfect healing. I let the Christ Mind do its freeing work in me now. I relax, I trust, and I let go.
Prosperity My body, my circumstances, my environment, and my mind are indications of my degree of contact with my inner Life. God’s good Life glows in me.
I now realize the passing away of the old and the incoming of the new are results of the outworking of God’s law of good in all areas of my life. I relax, I trust, and I let go.

You are My Shining Star! By the Reverend Laurie Durgan
When I think of Christmas…I think of you. I think of your Light that shines when you smile. I think of the love you share when you offer a hug. I think of the “coziness” and comfort you create when you help someone who needs a friend. I think of the peace I feel when I hear you pray. I think of the joy you spread with your laughter. A very special way to celebrate Christmas is to take some quiet time and read about Jesus being born. The story is found in the Bible, Luke Chapter 2, verses 1-20. As you read the Christmas Story, remember that you are an important part of the story. Jesus came to teach that you are the light of the world too. The Christ in Jesus is the Christ in you. It is the power in you to heal, to create, to love and to bless. It is the power in you to do and to be anything of which you dream. It is the power in you that is perfect and beautiful and there within you When I think of Christmas I think of you. I see you as a shining star, a beautiful child of God who came to be God’s love in this world. Like Jesus, you are loved and adored. Like Jesus, you are a great teacher. Like Jesus, you create miracles. Like Jesus, you are to be praised, celebrated, and honored. When I think of Christmas I think of you, and I thank God for the beautiful, radiating light that you are in the world and in my life. I feel God’s love shining from you. You make me so happy!! Merry Christmas with love, Miss Laurie
1. When you wrap gifts: pray for the person the gift will go to. If you know of a need that person has, make that your prayer. If not, give thanks to God for that person and what he or she means to you. 2. When you see a candle: remember that Christ is the light of the world and that God wants us to spread that light to others. One way to do that is by doing an unexpected kind deed for someone each day. 3. When you see a Christmas tree: give thanks for the beauty of God’s creation and ask God to help you be a good caretaker of your part of creation. 4. When you hear a Christmas bell ring: think of the good news of Jesus coming to the world and set aside some of your own money to donate to a Christmas charity in your community. 5. When you sing Christmas carols: really think about what the words say and sing them joyfully. Try reading the words of some carols and discussing them as a family devotion. 6. When you wish someone a Merry Christmas: say a quick prayer for that person. At the end of the day, think of all the people you have wished a Merry Christmas that day and pray for them again.
______________________ Preheat oven to 350 degrees. While it is heating, spray baking sheet lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Place the roll dough on the baking sheet in the shape of a Christmas tree (one roll at the top, two in the next row, three in the next, four in the next, and five in the last row). Leave a little space between the rolls. Flatten and press them together to make a tree shape. Flatten one roll to make the tree trunk and press it under the last row. Press the middle of the rolls down and leave the edges rounded a little help hold the sauce. Poke the rolls several times with a fork to keep them from bubbling up while baking. Bake the dough for 10-12 minutes. Take it out and let it cool. Spread the sauce over the tree. Sprinkle cheese over it. Then arrange the pepperoni and veggies to decorate your tree. Bake 10-12 more minutes, until the crust is browned and the cheese is melted.

The Practice of Meditation with Charlene Wilkinson Sunday, November 13, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. The practice of meditation is a part of every major tradition, although there may be different techniques and ways of working with the practice. Charles Fillmore, co-founder of Unity referred to the practice as “sitting in the silence.” He described meditating as a state of consciousness entered into for the purpose of putting oneself in touch with Divine Mind, so that the soul may listen to the still small voice. Modern science is now confirming the numerous
beneficial effects of meditation that have been known for thousands of years. We will be exploring a simple step-by-step guide to the practice of meditation and how to make it a part of our everyday routine. The class is facilitated by Charlene Wilkinson, J.D., RYT. She has been a Unity student and studied meditation for over 30 years. She is an accomplished instructor of meditation, yoga and comparative philosophy. Love offering

The Burning Bowl
White Stone Ceremony
Ceremony will be held Wed., Jan. 4, 7 p.m.
Join us Wed., Jan. 11, 7 p.m.
We all have regrets, fears, and resentments from our past that we hold onto for one reason or another. With the burning bowl ritual, we can finally let those negative energies go and make room for Divine Love, healing and acceptance. In the Burning Bowl Ceremony, we write all the things we want to be free of on special paper, and it burns away very quickly in the bowl. We then write our goals and commitments for 2016. It’s good to arrive early; this is one of the most popular evenings of the New Year! Love offering.
Licensed Unity Teacher, Madaline Lawrence, leads the White Stone Ceremony in the Sanctuary at 7 p.m. A tribute to personal freedom, it gives us a chance to choose a new spiritual name or idea for ourselves in alignment with spiritual qualities we want to manifest in our daily lives. The White Stone is a harmonic complement to the previous week’s Burning Bowl. Join Madaline for a time of reflection and expression of spirit. Arrive early to assure a seat. Love offering.
