Reflecting on Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley

his summer marks two years since Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley opened its doors in Edinburg, a milestone that reflects steady progress in pediatric care across the region. When the hospital first opened in May 2024, it brought something new to the Rio Grande Valley: a dedicated children’s hospital built entirely around the needs of kids. Rising eight stories above the surrounding landscape, the facility quickly became a recognizable part of the skyline. a wide range of pediatric care into one place. More than 30 specialties and surgical services were part of that foundation, supported by teams focused entirely on caring for children. For many years, Driscoll has flown specialists into the Rio Grande Valley to see kids in outpatient clinics; now there is a hospital for acute care. In its first year, the hospital saw more than 20,000 emergency department visits, admitted over 1,000 newborns to the NICU, and performed more than 5,000 surgeries.
