Pelvic Girdle Pain PGP, formerly known as Symphysis Pubis Dysfunc on affects 1 in 5 pregnant women and symptoms can occur at any stage during or following pregnancy. PGP causes pain and s ffness in the pelvic joints, and difficulty walking, climbing stairs and turning in bed. The shape and flexibility of the pelvis/pelvic joints changes in pregnancy due to the weight of the developing baby and hormones released during pregnancy which increase laxity of the pelvic ligaments. Osteopathic treatment of the pelvic joints and so ssues is safe and effec ve during and a er pregnancy.
