Beautiful and Meaningful
Photography by Christi Austin Photography part-time job at a Washington, D.C.area Target store turned out to be the beginning of something special for Ashley and Michael LaPorte. “Michael was training me for the job,” Ashley said. “We hit it off right away and started dating three days later. We’ve been together ever since. It was love at first sight.” Though Ashley’s family moved to Alabama shortly after the couple began dating, the two reunited in Virginia, continuing their relationship while Ashley was a student at Radford University. Both are fond of the water, frequenting North Carolina’s Outer Banks with his family during their courtship. However, a single visit to Smith Mountain Lake was all it took for the couple to become smitten with a different water destination. “We had been to SML once with his family,” said Ashley. “It was midway between where we were living at the time and where they were in Washington, D.C., so we decided it was the perfect place to spend the day. Once we got engaged, we knew we wanted an outdoor spot by the water. Smith Mountain Lake was absolutely perfect.” Last August, the couple wed at a waterfront ceremony at Bernard’s Landing Resort and
