The Social Media Hair and Beauty Awards

Hair and beauty salons are able to help people to live their best lives. Not only are they a way to pamper yourself and to have a treat, but they are also a way to increase your self-confidence too. Despite this, it seems that those who run a hair or beauty business are not recognised as much as they should be. Sure, people value their hairdresser or their beauty therapist, but how can they then show this to them in a better way? This is where we can help. We are The Social Media Hair and Beauty Awards and it is our aim to ensure that those working with the hair and beauty industry are recognised on social media for all their hard work and effort.

What happens if you win? So, what happens if it is decided that you should win one of our awards? Well, the first thing is that you will receive a trophy along with certificates stating your win. This can then be displayed in your salon, for everyone to see. You will also be able to share your great news on your social media pages, increasing your followers and showing your existing clients that they really are in safe hands when they choose you. We have awards across a number of different categories. These relate to hair, beauty and general categories too and include:

Social Media Bridal Hair of the Year Social Media Colourist of the Year Social Media Hairdresser of the Year Social Media MUA of the Year Social Media Nail Technician of the Year Social Media Salon Design of the Year Social Media Best New Comer of the Year

However these are just some of the categories that are open to those businesses within the industry. Want to learn more? If you do then take a look at our website and learn more about how we want to make sure that those businesses who work so hard in the industry are recognised for that hard work.

About us It started in 2019 when myself Amy Richards & my partner Laura Dix had an idea to start a local awards for the hair and beauty industry in our area, Wales. The idea quickly turned around with the talk of Covid rapidly spreading worldwide. The idea became just that, an idea. 2020 was a crazy year for everyone, business owners were struggling for other ways to make money to pay staff and break even, the employed were locked up and unable to leave their houses, children were stuck indoors unable to see their friends and parents were trying to be teachers. Our world was turned upside down and still is. We decided we needed something for the hair & beauty industry online, a pick me up for all the professionals who are being forced to stop working. After numerous facetime calls and zoom meetings, we decided to have the awards online. The idea quickly became a business. With the first nominee being from The Netherlands. It rapidly turned from a local business to a global one. There was no controlling where the nominees were coming from, and you know what, we were more than happy with that. We have been over the moon with the number of nominations received so far. Some nominating themselves, some nominating others to show that they appreciate them. Each and every nominee has the chance to win these awards. The voting is done by the public. Both small and large businesses can enter, giving everyone a chance at an award and each and everyone of them deserve it. Concentrating so much on the nominees, we neglected everything else. But that soon turned around when Schwarzkopf became a sponsor for colourist of the year. How excited were we!!! Then one after the other we gained more sponsors from some amazing companies Schwarzkopf, Wahl, Leyton House, Professional Hair Tools & Head Jog Hair, Scratch Magazine, Affinage Professional, Hive of Beauty, Smoulder Viola, The Warehouse. We couldn’t have been happier with the results we were getting from these awards and we welcome anymore sponsors to get on board with us. We are super excited to see what the future years will bring, but to say the least this first year has gone exceptional. We wish every nominee the best of luck.

Hi there my name is jade Marie I am 29 and just started my hairdressing career September 2020. I have always had a passion for hair but due to issues in high school then having children I took a step back from my dream career. Now my children are in full time school I feel now is the perfectly opportunity to start. I feel I am late to the show but better late than never... I have a very good work ethic and a great team player. I always like to aim high, however I am very negative about myself putting my work down, feeling like it's not good enough. However after lots of encouragement from my tutor I am slowly feeling more confident which is why I decided to join in and enter the SMHBA awards. I won't lose anything by entering so why not. As for my work placement I work at The Pin Up Hair Co in Heckmondwike west Yorkshire. It's a small salon in the town i live and perfect for me. I have a boss that's helping me exceed with my learning and giving me more confidence with dealing with clients.

We all love the hairdressing industry but we also know it has an ugly side too. We freely pour toxic hair colour down the sink, throw out used foils and colour tubes in the regular bin given they mostly can't be recycled, we use more plastic and paper than the other shops on the high street and we even throw valuable hair cuttings into the bin. GREEN SALON COLLECTIVE are here to change this. Founded by environmental experts, hairdressers & eco campaigners, GREEN SALON COLLECTIVE is the original authority on salon sustainability throughout the UK and Ireland wide.

With our recycling system, we will recycle almost every single piece of "rubbish" and turn it into something new. We recycle and recover hair, used foils, empty colour tubes, chemicals, PPE, plastic & Paper. We also sell 100% plastic-free plant-based gloves and the worlds only recyclable face masks. We provide each salon with the separation kits, in-salon marketing, daily collections, ongoing support and ideas and education on all matters regarding sustainability. Another thing we are proud to recycle is our profits. 100% of any money raised from recycling your raw materials or new products made from your waste goes to charity. By recycling our profits, every month we can support charities and organisations that are close to our hearts. These currently include the following: Foodcycle Haircuts 4 The Homeless Tree Planting. The biggest winner here is that we reward the planet. We are diverting easily recyclable materials that are currently being sent to landfill. These are materials such as aluminium foil which is a commodity that can be recycled an infinite amount of times. We'll also recycle your hair to ensure that it will be used to either help adsorb oil from our waterways, be added into gardeners composting mixes, or if it's long enough, be donated to wig making charities. There is absolutely no reason why either of these materials should be thrown away as general waste just to end up in the ground. To join the collective, head over to our shop section, choose the materials you wish to recycle, and then let us take care of the rest. If you have any questions, we'd love to hear from you. You can either reach out to us via the connect page or email us at and we'll be in touch. We look forward to welcoming you on board.

The Warehouse Sponsoring Hair Apprentice of The Year Award We started in 2016 but I had the idea long before then. The idea of the wholesalers came to me on a beach in Vietnam whilst doing my sudoku’s. I wrote a small list in my sudoku book of what was needed to start this venture and calculated the cost. I continued my travels and forgot about the idea until after having my daughter. I knew there was one needed in this area, so whilst being a full-time mother looking after my 2-year-old son and my newly born daughter, I decided to write up a business plan during nap times. I opened The Warehouse 9 months later in Brynmawr, South Wales. We rapidly grew a relationship with all our customers and soon grew online too. We are excited to be part of these amazing awards. Especially during these depressing times for the industry.
