::PLAY:: Visit our Amish Settlement •The Harmony area is home to Minnesota’s largest Amish settlement with over 150 families of “Old Order” Amish. A very significant part of our heritage is the Amish community established here. Harmony’s Amish community is strictly “Old Order” Amish, meaning that the people are very private and have strong Christian convictions. •The Amish of Harmony began their move to the Harmony area in 1974 and have grown to over 1,000 people with seven church “districts” and ten one-room schools. Close by is another Amish community in the Granger, Minnesota area. The Amish of Harmony only use limited technology in their homes, businesses, and
buggies. They make a living by farming, working construction jobs and selling their wares. Baskets, furniture, and quiltmaking are popular in Harmony. Jams, rugs, quilts, baked goods, and cashew crunch are among the items available for sale at local Amish homes. •Visitors to the Harmony area can visit Amish farms and merchants by taking a tour through Amish Tours of Harmony which is located at the Sugar Plum House on the Village Green or at Essence of Harmony on Main Street. The tour company offers van tours or car tours with a guide. Another option is to do a CD tour in your own car with Amish Back Road’s Tour. This tour is available from the Village Depot or the Amish Connection on Main Street.
