More... High School Track & Field Championships
Students, with their school emblems on display, used the available spaces to battle each other for bragging rights. Teachers were on hand to encourage and support as seen here with the Central Eleuthera student, at the end of her race being physically assisted by one of her teachers. When not running, the onlookers lent their full verbal support especially in the relays which typically generate the most excitement. Johnny Butler, Director of the meet, commented that a majority of athletes taking part were not in condition, having done none or minimal sustained physical training to compete, but that those with natural ability were doing well. “The coaches have a lot of work to do to prepare the students for the National High School Track & Field Championships in mid-March, he noted.
