www. EleutheraNews . com On Thursday, the school hosted their much anticipated Literacy Week Book Fair, starting with an out of the ordinary assembly, where everyone involved were part of telling a story. The emcee was the ‘author’ and ‘illustrator’, there were also characters like fairy godmother, a princess, and a Mr. Literate, who talked about the importance of literacy and reading. Officer Merrick Roker of the Royal Bahamas Police Force, also made

a special presentation of a locally authored book called, ‘I Can Help’, to teachers of grades 4, 5 and 6, written by a colleague on the Force. Books for the Fair were sourced by Mrs. Rose Blanchard out of the U.S., who also took time out to speak to the student body during Fair day. Books were on sale for as low as $0.50 cents said Principal Brown-Gibson, explaining, “We tried to have them as cheap as possible so that the children would be able to afford them.” The exciting week climaxed on Friday, with an energetic and colourful character parade and banner competition, where

each class chose a book to bring to life, and dressed the part for the parade through the town, and designed banners around the theme of each book. Scores of students piled into the main thoroughfare from the school for the short march, dressed in characters from Dr. Suess, Charlotte’s Web, Beauty and the Beast, Pirates of the Caribbean, Super Heroes, The Little Mermaid, Alice in Wonderland and many more. Winners of the banner competition in both the primary and high school divisions were rewarded with a Pizza Party.
