Top local students recognized at Annual National Exam Awards By the eleutheran news team Three High Schools in Eleuthera were represented at the recent Annual National Exam Awards held in New Providence on Monday, February 13th, 2017, where top students who sat the 2016 national BJC (Bahamas Junior Certificate) and BGCSE (Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education) examinations were recognized for their stellar achievements. Of the 27 BGCSE subjects offered, 2 of the national top A result awards presented were captured by Eleuthera students, including Jason Pinder of Samuel Guy Pinder All Age School (SGPAAS) who received the top A result in Music; and Taneesha Underwood also of the Samuel Guy Pinder All Age School who received the top A result in Keyboarding Skills. Of the 11 BJC subjects offered, 1 of the national top A result awards presented was earned by an Eleutheran student, Ernie Kelly of North Eleuthera High School (NEHS) who received the top A result in Health Science. Safyha Bryan a 2016 graduate of Central Eleuthera High School (CEHS), for the second year in a row, earned the Best BGCSE results for the island of Eleuthera, having achieved 5 A’s, 1 B and 1 C. Adding these results to her 11th grade performance, she graduated in 2016 having earned 14 BGCSE’s in total (11 A’s, 2 B’s and 1 C). Ernie Kelly of North Eleuthera

High School walked away with the Best BJC 2016 results for Eleuthera, with 7 A’s. Students who received Honourable Mention awards for achieving five or more A’s in their national exams included: Ernie Kelly of NEHS - BJC (7 A’s); Allie Bliss Pinder of SGPAAS - BJC (5 A’s, 2 B’s, 1 C); Anna Danae Pinder of SGPAAS - BJC (5 A’s, 3 B’s); Merrick Megan Underwood of SGPAAS BJC (5 A’s, 3 B’s); Saiydah Bryan of CEHS - BGCSE (5 A’s); and Safyha Bryan of CEHS - BGCSE (5 A’s, 1 B, and 1 C). An individual Eleuthera high school was also recognized for their national performance as a whole. NEHS received a 2nd place award for Most Improved GPA in Government Schools (BJC - Category B: 101-500 student entries).
