CHEMISTRY & BIOCHEMISTRY
LEAD WITH AN EDGE
BECAUSE MATTER MATTERS.
The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers an American Chemical Society approved chemistry major and a biochemistry major that is accredited by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Our faculty members have earned competitive National Science Foundation grants and been awarded summer research fellowships with the Office of Naval Research. Undergraduate research opportunities include the St. Mary’s Project (capstone research experience) and the St. Mary’s Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF). SURF is an eight-week summer program at St. Mary’s College where students delve into research topics of their own aspirations with guidance from faculty mentors. Additional opportunities for research are available through internships.
