GRAMMAR: UTTRYCK MED PREPOSITIONER

Aisha is amazing at Spanish.

Andra bra kombinationer att lära sig med adjektiv och preposition är: nice + to rude + to good + for bad + for

interested + in afraid + of scared + of proud + of

A. Fyll i rätt preposition; at, to, for, in, of 1. Alijan is afraid . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . big dogs. 2. Myah is amazing . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . climbing trees. 3. Olga is always very nice . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . her friends. 4. Exercise is good . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . you.

6. Melanie is bad . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . keeping secrets. 7. I am really proud . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . my older sister. 8. My neighbour is interested . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . gardening.

WRITE: MY PASSION

A local newspaper wants you to write 200 words about your passion. The idea is to inspire other young people to take up a new activity. You should mention: u how you got interested in your activity u why it is such a great activity u how and when other people can get involved in your activity

Show your writing to your classmates. They should give feedback using two stars and a wish. 8

2. Prepare to make a short podcast where you talk about your hobby.

Write a script with questions and answers. You may have to do some research about the hobby to make the podcast interesting. 3. Practise a couple of times and then make a recording, which you can

play or send to your teacher.

X:

Why are you into playing World of Warcraft?

Y:

Because I think it is such a great way to meet people from all over the world.

X:

Really, is that mainly why you play it?

Y:

Yeah, I think so. What about you?

X:

Well, the main reason I play it is because I like the backstory and because I like going on adventures and completing different quests …

Y:

Well, if I didn't like this game I would choose another one.

X:

Do you prefer playing on an RP-server or a PVP-server? …

FIND OUT: THREE PASSIONS

Do some research to find three people who are passionate about what they do. Try to find three very different passions. For example, one sporty, one artistic and one musical. Prepare a short presentation for your classmates. You should include: • who they are • what their passion is • perhaps a video or some pictures of them showing their passion • why you chose these particular people

SPEAK: I’M (NOT) INTERESTED IN OLD PEOPLE

Some young people think it is boring to read about old people and they only want to read about people of their own age. Other young people enjoy the company of older people and think we can learn a lot from them. In groups, divide into two smaller groups, A and B. Group A, think of all the reasons why you don’t want anything to do with old people. Group B, think of all the reasons why mixing with old people can be a good thing. Now get together in groups with a mix of A and B and share your ideas. 18

WRITE: TRUE OR FALSE? 1. Write two stories. Each story should be about a person you find

incredible in some way. One of the stories should be true and one of the stories should be made up. 2. Your teacher will organise you in groups of four. Each of you reads

your two stories out loud to the others and they guess which one is true and which one is made up by writing their guesses on a piece of paper. Everyone does the same thing and then you add up the score. 3. The person reading the story gets a point for each person he/she

managed to fool. The people listening get awarded a point for each story they figured out. Add up the score and see who won. FIND OUT: KENYA

One of the stories in the text takes place in Kenya. Find some facts about Kenya. 1. Where is Kenya? 2. How big is it if you compare it to Sweden? 3. What is the name of the capital? 4. What is the weather like, in the summer and in the winter? 5. Find a fact about the wildlife in Kenya.

Don’t forget to make a note of your sources! Hand in your Kenya facts to your teacher. AND ACTION: LOCAL HISTORY

One way that young people can learn from older people is to find out about local history. In group of four or more. Two people play the role of old people. The others are their own age. Before you start your sketch, ‘old’ people should discuss what they might say about local history, ‘young’ people should prepare some good questions. If your sketch is successful, ask your teacher about doing it for real!

Letters are not a great idea and you should only communicate electronically.

If you know your friend’s full name and where they live, you can try to find their phone number online and call your friend. I think it’s great to hear each other’s voices, it makes the conversation more personal.

A JOB INTERVIEW

3.1 PRESENT

You have applied for a summer job that you really want. It is at your local sports club and the job is to train a group of children. The job is between 9 and 12 each day for the first five weeks of the summer. This means that you could take this job and still be able to go swimming with your friends every day. You have been called in for an interview.

MY NEIGHBOURHOOD You have a friend coming over from England to visit you. Where would you take them? Choose three different places in your neighbourhood that you would like to show someone who comes to visit you from another country. 1. Take a picture of each place 2. Write a short factual text about each place (3–4 lines) 3. Write down what you would like to do at that particular place, for example, have a picnic, go swimming, climb trees etc. Present your neighbourhood on a poster or make a presentation in front of some classmates.

Work in pairs. One of you is the employer carrying out the interview and the other one is applying for the job. Then you swap places.

– – – –

A little help: Why do you want this job? Do you have any experience? Why should we hire you? You need to be responsible in this job. Can you give us some examples that show how responsible you are?

TALK SHOW In groups of four create your own talk show. One of you plays the role of the talk show host and three of you are there to talk about your unusual hobbies. Or you all share the same hobby and have met because of it. Perhaps you all met at Dreamhack, a comics convention or perhaps you met in an online computer game. One twist could be that you have only met online and are now seeing each other IRL for the first time. Write the dialogue, practise and then act it out in front of the class.

A READING PROJECT

Your school is doing a reading project together with the local nursing home. Your class and the people at the nursing home are reading the same books and have been put into book circle groups. Work in groups of four. Two of you are old people and two of you are yourselves. Your teacher will give you a short story to read in your group. 1. Read the story. 3.2 ACT & SPEAK 2. Discuss in pairs, old people and young people. Try to imagine how you would perceive the story if you were old. 3. Discuss the story from your 1. Form groups of four and it takes two different points of view. groups to play.

IDIOMS CHARADES

2. Find at least ten English idioms and write them down on pieces of paper, which you put in a box. 3. The two groups take turns. One person takes one of the papers then tries to show the group what it says on the paper without speaking. The other group members try to work out what the note says. When they succeed, discuss what the idiom means.

Extra: If you know any old people, let them read the story and tell you how they perceive it. Compare what you thought to what the old people said.
