Me and my cousins My name is Lek. My best friends are my four cousins: Gai, Tom, Kiwi and Dutch. These are our nicknames. Thai people have long names – for example my real name is Chanachai. So, we normally use our nicknames instead.

I am called Lek, because in Thai, Lek means small. I’m quite a short and skinny girl.

Gai means chicken in Thai – but Gai doesn’t look like a chicken. She’s very tall and pretty – we just call her chicken for fun. Her twin brother, Tom, is called Tom because he looks a bit like the American actor Tom Cruise. He’s quite short and good looking.

We call Kiwi that because he lived in New Zealand for a year and Kiwi is a New Zealand word.
