Six Ways To A Healthy Life

h

Mindfulness is the buzzword of the moment, but there is truth behind this trend. Deep breathing calms the mind and as little as 10 minutes a day has been shown to have enormous health benefits and improve sleep quality. The key is to mentally distance yourself from stressful or stimulating situations allowing you time to shift towards calm, quiet and contentment. For those who have yet to master stillness of the mind, deep breathing on it’s own is a great start. It reduces your heart rate and increases oxygen saturation in the blood allowing your muscle cells to recharge and work at optimal performance. If meditation is not your thing, pick up a good book and take time out for a relaxing reading session by burning scented candles or essential oils in relaxing fragrances like jasmine, geranium, rose or sandalwood allowing it to inspire you.

Energy Boost

Energy comes in different forms. An awakening of the mind and senses is crucial to keep your mood and energy levels at optimal throughout the day. A simple trick is to use a citrus shower gel to awaken the senses and invigorate you. Choose one which is high in essential citrus oils or has a strong refreshing smell. Tea tree shampoo and conditioner is perfect to stimulate and awaken the scalp, increasing blood flow to the follicles and leaving a pleasant tingling sensation. Take time out if possible every 30 minutes to either stand up and stretch or walk to the water cooler and grab a drink or get out of the car to get a minute of fresh air. These pattern interrupts not only change your psychology but by altering your position will also change your physiology and decrease the risk of stress on your skeletal structures.

Active

If your lifestyle is somewhat sedentary, try walking up to 30 minutes a day preferably in the morning as it fires up your brain and stimulates your body. If you’re already a gym goer, try to vary your routine. Remember to smile as you work out as this too changes your physiology and in turn will increase your energy. Being active also involves engaging your core muscles throughout the day not just at gym time! Changing your posture by just a fraction can make a big difference to how you feel internally and how people perceive you externally. Notice how you feel when you’re slumped and shrugged compared to how you feel standing tall with your shoulders back and chest out. By changing your posture to look confident, positive messages are fed back to your brain that will improve your mood and thought processes resulting in you feeling happier and more energised.
