SLB Public Relations and Welcome to Yorkshire invited Yorkshire based bartedners to create an original and delicious cocktail recipe using at least one ingredient from the county; whether it be rhubarb, ale from a brewery in the Yorkshire Dales or a generous dash of Sheffield’s notorious relish creativity, originality and quaffability were key. The concept behind the competition was to encourage the use of Yorkshire’s superb local produce, alongside the national promotion of Yorkshire’s finest bartenders; helping to establish Yorkshire as a cosmopolitan, creative and contemporary destination. The competition was held over three rounds: ROUND ONE was an initial screening round where competitors were asked to submit their entries via email. From these submissions, the 30 highest scoring recipes were selected to progress to Round Two. ROUND TWO consisted of the 30 semi-finalists producing their cocktail in front of local guest judges in Leeds (MOJO Bar - 28th June) and York (The Evil Eye Lounge - 19th July). The bartenders with the top ten scores from across the county went through to the grand final.

ROUND THREE took place at the Yorkshire Day event at THE SKYLOUNGE on the 1st August 2011. The final ten competitors produced their recipe in front of an audience and the expert judges. The winner was the contestant with the highest overall score in Round Three. The competition was promoted nationally and regionally through frequent press releases, social media and marketing media, all contributing to a siginificant amount of competition press coverage in a range of publications including The Yorkshire Evening Post, BBC Radio Leeds, Harper’s Wine and Spirits, Class Magazine, Capital Radio and Spirits and Yorkshire.com to name but a few. Overall, information about the competition reached over a million people! For 2012, SLB Public Relations (alongside support from Welcome to Yorkshire) are looking for a principal competition sponsor - ideally of Yorkshire origin, who can both support the growth of the competition and benefit from the extensive coverage gained.

Overall, the principal sponsor will be able to have as much or as little involvement in the overall running of the competition as desired (so long as the original concept is not altered). Their brand/business will benefit from the significant coverage expected and any brand/business can rest assured that the competition will run smoothly and efficiently thanks to the management of SLB Public Relations and support from Welcome to Yorkshire.

TOTAL COST: ÂŁ2,000 (inc VAT) This sponsorship money will be spent on producing high quality flyers, competition information packs and entry forms, press and guest invitations, posters and the cost of the competition prize.
