In January she will represent Oklahoma in the 2013 Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas. Alicia began dancing at age three and is a national and international dance award winner. She currently holds two dance related Guinness World Records. Alicia has been a featured guest on many television shows, including “Live with Regis and Kelly,” “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and she also appeared on “So You Think You Can Dance.” After a childhood friend lost his battle with leukemia, Alicia was inspired to help other children facing debilitating and life-threatening illnesses. BETTY THOMPSON 2012 MARGE GILLEY AWARD RECIPIENT In 1999, the Miss Oklahoma State University Scholarship Pageant Board of Directors made the decision to honor an individual who has, by his or her actions, provided a distinctly positive influence upon the development of leadership for the women of Oklahoma State University. The board decided to name the award after Marge Gilley. Marge served as an inspiration and mentor to many young women throughout the state and nation through her work with the Miss Oklahoma and Miss America Scholarship Pageants. This year’s recipient of the Marge Gilley Award is Betty Thompson. Betty was Miss Oklahoma 2011 and is an elementary education major at Oklahoma State University. She is a member of the Dairy Farmers Spokesperson Network as well as a Dairy Max Classroom Educator. Betty dances with the world-known McTeggart Irish Dancers and represented the USA at the World Irish Dance Championships for four years as well as the All-Ireland Irish Dance Championships for five years where she was the first Oklahoman to medal. In 2010 she was on the Oklahoma State University president’s honor roll and the dean’s honor roll in 2011. Most recently, Betty was first runner-up to Miss America 2012. At this pageant she was the America’s Choice recipient and was awarded a $25,000 scholarship. Since the Miss America competition, Betty has spoken to many different organizations. At the Chesapeake Energy Corporation she taught an etiquette class to the college interns. At the National Holstein Convention she shared about the importance of being an ambassador for the dairy industry. She was also asked to speak at the Oklahoma Women in Agriculture Conference in Oklahoma City. In September Betty spoke to the Oklahoma State University chapter of American Association of University Women and encouraged them to overcome the obstacles that they will face. Betty is the daughter of Robert and Janine Thompson.
