FRANSA'NIN EN GÜNEŞLİ KENTİ Buralara yolunuz eğer kış aylarında düşerse kentteki yaş ortalamasının hayli yüksek olduğunu hemen fark edersiniz. Fransa'nın yıl boyunca en çok güneş gören kentlerinden olan Nice bir anlamda emekliler şehrine dönüşmüş. Büyükçe bir üniversitenin varlığı bile kenti genç göstermeye yetmiyor. Bakımlı ve tertemiz caddelerde gezinirken birden karşınıza çıkabilecek ilginç bir kilise sizi şaşırtabilir. Soğan biçimindeki renkli kubbeleriyle Rusya'yı Nice kentinin tam ortasına taşıyan bu yapı Rus soylularının da 19. yüzyılda buraya ilgisiz kalmadıklarının kanıtı. Onlar da soğuk Rusya kışına Nice'in ılık havasını tercih etmişler. Saint Nicolas Katedrali onların ibadet etmeleri için yapılmış, içinde çok güzel ikonalara sahip kilisenin hemen yakınında Rusların bir zamanlar yaşadıkları saray yer alıyor. SUNNIEST CITY İN FRANCE If you happen to come to Nice in vvinter, y o u ‘II notice immediately that the average age o f the city's residents is rather high. As one o f the sunniest cities in France year round, Nice has become a city o f pensioners. Even the presence o f a sizeabie university doesn 't suffice to give the city a youthful look. As you stroll along the clean, well-maintained avenues you m ight be surprised to come upon an interesting church. VVith its colorful onion domes, this building, vvhich brings Russia to the city çenter, testifies to
the interest taken in Nice by the 19th century Russian nobility, who preferred its temperate ciimate to the harsh Russian vvinter. Saint Nichoias Church was buiit as their piace o f worship. immediately next to this cathedrai with its very beautifui icons is a smail paiace that was once a Russian residence. The building is used as a school today. As long as we are here I m ight aiso add that the Ottomans also in its day was not indifferent to Nice either, and owned some palaces here.
