Momentum in NewBo

I heard it again today: “Man, is that NewBo a happening place!” Recently, the Gazette had a great headline, “What Makes NEWBO so Cool?” Michaela Ramm went on to interview and opine on the elements that now exist in this formerly flood ravaged area. Jeff Pomeranz, City Manager, best summarized it when he stated that NewBo has the three components necessary for success: housing, work opportunities and entertainment. I believe there is also a fourth component, and that is momentum. This quality is very hard to acquire and very easy to lose. According to the Czech Village/ New Bohemia Main Street District, 1,300 new residents have been added since 2009. This increase in population has played a significant role in sustaining the progress made in this area. Take some time soon and visit the NewBo District. Experience the momentum, and help sustain it by frequenting the eateries and enjoying the activities you’ll find. On another note, Mayor Corbett has given his final State of the City address, complete with Mr. Mayor singing a tribute to the successes of Cedar Rapids. WOW! It was a “Temptations” flash back. If you missed his address, here are the major points of his challenge. A
