A largescaled Cristal, the 1990 combines size with clarity and focus in a remarkably complete style that recalls the 1982. The wine remains generous on the palate, with stunning length and a finish that lasts forever. The 1990 Cristal is 62% Pinot Noir, 38% Chardonnay. Just a small portion of the wine (7-10%) underwent malolactic fermentation. This bottle was disgorged in late 2007 with 8 grams of dosage.” A. Galloni for TWA, 97 pts. 03/09 6 bottles (oc) $1,900-2,400 349 Veuve Cliquot La Grande Dame 1990 Reims R. Parker for TWA, 95 pts. 10/98 1 double magnum (owc) $700-1,000

Its dark plum/purple color is followed by notes of melted tar intermixed with sweet cassis and floral underpinnings. Very full-bodied and dense for a Chateau Margaux, with a slight rusticity to the tannins, it boasts blockbuster power, richness, and impressive aromatics.” R. Parker for TWA, 98 pts. 06/09 4 bottles $2,000-2,800 355 Chateau Margaux 1995 L. Perrotti-Brown for TWA, 95 pts. 04/9 2 bottles $650-800 356 Chateau Margaux 1999 Margaux, 1er Cru Classe 3 magnums $1,500-2,100

357 Chateau Margaux 2005 Margaux, 1er Cru Classe “The first-growth 2005 Château Margaux (85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot), a lavish fragrance of blackcurrants, velvety new saddle leather, spring flowers and spice soars from the glass. The wood is already totally concealed beneath the cascade of fruit in this medium to full-bodied, pure and majestic wine. This concentrated, dense, but nevertheless strikingly elegant, multi-layered wine has a finish of 45+ seconds. It builds incrementally to a crescendo and finale. This is a stunner that can be approached already, but promises to be better in another 5-10 years and last at least 25 or more years.” R. Parker for TWA, 98+ pts. 06/15 12 bottles (owc) $7,000-8,500 358 Chateau Brane Cantenac 2005 Margaux, 2eme Cru Classe R. Parker for TWA, 95 pts. 06/15 12 bottles $600-850 359 Chateau Gruaud Larose 1982 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe u: one into neck, one bottom neck, bin staining to one label “A massive wine that is clearly of first-growth quality in this vintage, the 1982 Gruaud Larose remains a youngster. A broodingly dense, thick, unctuously textured, inky/plum/garnet/ purple color offers up scents of beef blood, steak tartare, cassis, herbs, tobacco, and underbrush. One of the most concentrated wines of the vintage (as well as one of the most concentrated Bordeaux’s I have ever tasted), it is a huge, full-bodied, weighty, rich wine whose tannins are getting silkier and silkier. It appears set for another 30-40 years of life. This behemoth is a singularly profound example of Gruaud Larose that continues to justify its legendary status.” R. Parker for TWA, 98 pts. 07/09 2 bottles $500-700 360 Chateau Leoville Barton 2005 Pauillac, 2eme Cru Classe 12 bottles $900-1,400 361 Chateau Leoville Las Cases 1982 St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classe u: one into neck, one bottom neck, bin soiled labels, both capsules nicked R. Parker for TWA, 95+ pts. 06/09 2 bottles $500-700
