As Northwest Washington’s premiere regional ballet company, NBT’s mission is to offer professional level productions from classical, contemporary, and modern repertoire under the Artistic Direction of John Bishop. NBT was formed in the spring of 2000 by John Bishop and Maureen Skomerza with the goal of building a high quality regional ballet company. The vision became reality when it produced its first spring production of Coppelia in 2001. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, that is rooted in the history and traditions of Mr. Bishop’s ballet training and professional career as a dancer and choreographer, the Northwest Ballet Academy (the official school of NBT) stands strong today. Northwest Ballet Academy students have the opportunity to perform in the professional level NBT productions. Past productions include: The Nutcracker, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Aladdin, Coppelia, Giselle, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Emerald Bay, The Firebird, Les Sylphides, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Dracula, and Sleeping Beauty.
