I. URBAN STRATEGIES REDEPLOYED As a phase before really approaching the site in Manhattan, the exercise I mainly focuses on constructing a larger inventory of urban strategies through a set of projects that introduce design concepts for a broad array of contents and scales and then redeploying the strategies through a speculative project within the assigned site. The project Lille Masterplan by OMA adopt the concept of superimposition of all the elements in the site including various rails, park, malls, commercial and business complex. The gigantic complex integrate every programs and enable them to interconnect with each other in the huge system. In the second part of the exercise, the concept was redeployed in the site Atlantic Yards located in Brooklyn. The site is of size of 6 blocks which is planned to mainly settle commercial and office programs, recreational facilities and communal service facilities and affordable housing for Brooklyn. Following the concept of superimposition, every program and a three dimensional circulation system are installed as components into a huge system.

II. BLOCK TYPOLOGICAL INVENTORY The second explorative phase looks at how the Manhattan block can accommodate greater densities while also developing experimental domestic space typologies that can help us reshape current conventions of urban life.The exercise explores tower in the lenses of its circulation, its footprint. Nine typologies are selected out to experience with different FAR, OSR, ratio of mixeduse and anchor programs.

III. URBAN FRAGMENT RESEARCH The third phase is to try to construct an ideal urban fragment composed of nine blocks. Considering the site is located adjacent to waterfront, a slope topography is adopted to allow residential units have a view toward the water. Multiple type of housing units are inserted in the huge megastructure to promote multiple classes of citizens.

IV. REFORMING THE GRID'S EDGE ConEdison Redevelopment Site, Manhattan
The final phase of the studio looks at the actual site ConEdison Redevelopment Site which is located on east 14th street in Manhattan along the East River. How to make grid approach the waterfront to create a new type of threshold between grid and water is the emphasized point in this Exercise.

IV. REFORMING THE GRID'S EDGE - EXPANDED THRESHOLD Considering the site as an important node along the east shoreline of Manhattan, we rethink the possibility of the threshold between urban grid and sea. While most eastern shoreline is singular in terms of program, building typology and open space along the water edge, the proposal Expanded Threshold tries to introduce multiple programs and various building typologies, consequently shaping an extended open space along the water edge.

Steel Bar System
The Steel Bars hanging from the ceiling forms the main part of the structural system and helps to support the pipes.
PERSPECTIVE For every intersection node, a linkage is designed to connect different sticks.
Create delauney mesh based on the points picked on the tornado curves.
Subdivide the delauney mesh to thicken the structure system.
Generate structure system based on the skeleton.
Colorized Tornado Pipes
In general, the pipes have two directions, forming a threedimensional network which can keep structually stable by itself.
MULTI-LAYER EXPLOSION The light well structure is composed of three layers. The outer layer is colorized tornado pipes that function as decoration and light sifter. The middle layer are joint nodes function as linkage between structure and pipes. The inner layer is light steel stick system to support the overall system.
