The Holy Ghost Party “kicked off” with the Annual Cinderella Ball on Friday March 15th. There was good Music, Food, & Dancing.

April 21 Great Expectations 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 5:1-11

On March 24th, the Annual 100 Women in Red was Canceled due to a Midwest Snow Storm, But not to worry. Prayer’s still went up and Blessings will still come down. Everything we do through Christ strengthens us! Wait the party doesn’t stop there! March 31st, you had to be there to see it resurrection service of “Now Behold the Lamb” the story told SJMBC style of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. To fully appreciate the story it is important that you understand that the analogy of Jesus as the Lamb of God is one that has it’s rooted in history. Because of man’s sin, God declared that a blood sacrifice would have to be made in order that there might be forgiveness. Because of his sacrifice, never again would it be necessary for a lamb to be slain for the sins of mankind. The sacrifice of Jesus has infinite merit for all who believe and is the universal remedy for universal sin.

The new website will be fully implemented in May 2013 and the new SJMBC app will be available for download by August 2013. It’s an exciting time for us at SJMBC and we hope you enjoy the new look coming your way. Here’s a sneak peak of our new design (a work in progress, mind you) that’s being launched in May 2013. You can test drive it by visiting

Old Look

New Look

You will find multiple steps to living a better life or to making yourself more attractive, a superior athlete, the smartest student, and even rich. With constant bombardment of selfimprovement messages, we must be careful that we don’t reduce our relationship with God through Christ to a series of steps to living the best Christian life possible. When we do this, we belittle God and turn him into someone who helps us achieve what we want out of life. How do we protect ourselves from adopting selfish methods in our relationship with God? Simple. We live in light of the gospel. According to A. W. Pink in The Redeemer’s Return, the gospel is more than a message about God saving you from the penalty of your sin. It is a message about God saving you from the penalty of your sin, the power of sin, and the presence of sin. Throughout your life you are brought along by Jesus and lovingly empowered by the Holy Spirit to live for the glory of God and enjoy him forever. So instead of formulating a new series of steps to take, look to Jesus. Preach the gospel to yourself every day as a way of placing your trust for your life in his hands, not your own. READ Ephesians 2:1–10

SJMBC MEDIA & TECHNOLOGY UPDATES SJMBC ( has had a web presence on the internet since April 2006. Over the past 7 years the website has undergone several updates and design changes. We want to announce our new website. We’ve redesigned our entire look and feel. We are using html 5 coding to make the site more dynamic and compatible with tablet and mobile devices. We are also working towards launching our first tablet and mobile app for both Android and iPhone platforms.

JESUS IS BETTER THAN SELFHELP – by Mars Hill Church The gospel is more than a message about God saving you from the penalty of your sin. Self-improvement messages are nearly everywhere. We see them on television, in advertisements, on the internet, and in magazines, newspapers, and books.

How did Paul use the word saved in Ephesians 2:5, 8? (He wrote in the present perfect tense, which indicates an action that was already completed at the time of his writing. This means we have already been saved from something.) From what have we been saved? (From Ephesians 2:1–3 we see that we’ve been saved from God’s wrath.) When talking about being saved, the Bible typically has two ideas in mind: (1) We are in danger and cannot rescue ourselves; and (2) Someone else rescued us.

excitement is going to happen in the month of May? Stay tuned! St. John Missionary Baptist Church is always on the move. Come Join us see what God is up to…….

Thank God for his mercy and grace in rescuing you from the penalty of your sins through faith in Jesus Christ. This devotion is adapted from the Who Do You Think You Are? Study Guides with Daily Devotions resource.

Pastor’s Notes

You are anointed! You are a “Mouthpiece for Jesus”! Remember the 3 “R’s” Record, Ready, Reward!

Health & Healing Many in our fellowship over the last few years have gone through a bout with cancer and other various illnesses. Getting any diagnosis is a frightening thing; and then what about the treatments and its effects? If you would like to talk with someone who has been through it, we have members who are available to listen, to pray, to share, and to encourage you.

Hmmmmmm! So what
