“A Christ centered community that supports and cares for each other.” I have heard those words describe SJCS many, many times, and I think that statement perfectly describes our school. On Friday, we enjoyed community as we celebrated our FANTASTIC volunteers with one of the best variety shows I’ve ever seen! We are so thankful for each person who volunteers on campus-you truly help us make things happen. We also thank our giving community. Just over 100 days ago, we challenged the entire SJCS family to give. The result of that challenge? We came within 1% of reaching our goal of $150,000. That is amazing! Thank you, thank you, to those who gave during the last 100 days. You have made a difference in the life of SJCS.

California Education Update

Teacher Tales Check this section each week for exciting stories about teachers doing great things in the classrooms of SJCS In the Spot Light - Mr. DenOuden! by Mrs. Baham The dynamic combination of loving middle school students, seeing history as joy and delight, and creating godly community ooze out of middle school teacher, Mr. Den Ouden. His diverse experiences in both the educational and professional worlds bring adventure and vision to our middle school. Whether teaching the U.S. Constitution, planning student council events or leading chapel, Mr. DenOuden cares deeply about issues of citizenship, community and justice. On February 15 Mr. Den Ouden prepared and presented on the monthly school theme of Go And Show Mercy and Compassion. Based on Zechariah 7:9b, “Administer true justice, show mercy and compassion to one another,” the chapel worship highlighted mercy (Heb. hesed). Mr. DenOuden thoughtfully planned the physical atmosphere to reflect his message. Through a week-long rock carrying analogy (ask your middle schooler about this!), circular placement of chairs, acapella singing, and a mixed-grade seating plan, students and teachers practiced vulnerability. “In the most fundamental way, mercy requires vulnerability,” DenOuden shared. The Florida shooting occurred the day before this chapel. Mr. DenOuden spoke to our role as engaged citizens, even from thousands of miles away. “School violence and loss of the lives of young people are real issues. The outcry is often to the government, but the change happens here with you and me. The clearest meaning of hesed, the word we see in both Micah 6:8 and Zephaniah 7:9b, is the idea of being bound together in such a way that what affects the one person becomes the deep concern of the other. The challenge to each of us is to lay down our rocks of judgment, anger, pain and unconscious beliefs, and instead look to the Rock of our salvation. God, we need your help to do this. Help us be agents of change right here and right now.”

Tiger Tracks Head of School Search Committee Update Dear SJCS community, The Search Committee continues its diligent work in searching for our next Head of School. Christian Schools International consulting has been helpful in connecting us with well qualified candidates, and we are encouraged by the candidates we have recently interviewed. Please pray with us as we continue to seek wisdom from God and from leadership experts. In the next month, we will be bringing candidates to visit our school. Please welcome them warmly and pray with us for clear answers as we seek God’s direction for both our school community as well as our candidates. Sincerely, On behalf of the Search Committee Becky Breiland, Search Committee Chair

Tiger Talk! Connecting parents and students! We provide the prompt, you provide the conversation!

Tiger Talk Tiger Talk is a section of the Tiger Tracks intended to connect families by providing topics for face to face discussion. These topics offer an avenue to dig into our school theme STOP and listen, GO and do. This week’s BIG IDEA - Our kids really do want to talk about their day. How do we encourage this process? Here are few top picks for engagement.

3rd-5th Grade Musical “Here We Are” March 9 - 7pm and March 10 - 2pm Join our third, fourth and fifth graders in the school auditorium this weekend as they present our upcoming musical Here We Are. Centering on the themes of Love, Belief, Grace & Praise, the kids explore through scripture and song how anyone, at anytime, can be a part of the family of God. Tickets are available in the school office.

For Middle School: Think about what you learned and did in school today. • What’s something you’d like to know more about? • What’s a question you have that came from your learning today? • What was challenging about your day? • Is there a question you wish I’d ask you about your day? For Elementary (These are tried and true options!) • What was one of the best parts of your day? • What was a scary part of your day? • What was a silly part of your day?

Time Change this weekend! As reminder please set your clocks ahead this weekend. Daylight savings time begins on Sunday at 2:00am.
