Special Dates for the SISS Office For the holidays, the SISS Office will be closed on the following dates: Thursday, November 28th—Friday, November 29th Monday, December 23rd—Wednesday, January 1st Additionally, many SISS staff members will be taking vacations during this time of year so staffing will be limited. Please plan your appointments, submit any document requests, or receive travel signatures in advance. We will also be conducting a Travel Signature Day on Thursday, December 5th during regular SISS open hours. Thank you for understanding, and we wish you happy holidays!

Aggies Leading the Way Leadership Conference The Center for Leadership Learning is co-sponsoring an undergraduate student leadership conference with Undergraduate Education and Student Affairs! This year’s conference theme is “Discovery, Partnership, Change”. The goal of the student leadership conference is to help students discover their leadership capacity, facilitate the creation of peerto-peer partnerships, and empower them to create positive change in their community. Students attending the conference will be able to select from 18 different interactive development workshops, listen to engaging keynote and workshop speakers, network with fellow student leaders, and foster connection among many student communities across campus. Morning refreshments, lunch, and afternoon snacks will be available. Registration for the 2014 Aggies Leading the Way undergraduate student leadership conference is now open! Conference registration is $10.00.

Preparing for Tax Season as a Graduate Student As a current UC Davis Graduate student, you are invited to learn about preparing for tax season. Graduate students tend to have unique filing needs, especially surrounding tuition and personal loans while completing masters, doctoral and continuing education degrees. Join CAAA and a panel of qualified tax professionals for an open discussion on how to be prepared and an opportunity to ask difficult tax questions. These questions will be shared with participating speakers so that they can come prepared to speak to attendee concerns. Graduate students, still in school and recently graduated, can take advantage of special services and discounts from CAAA. Undergraduate Research Training and Mentorship Program The UC Davis Undergraduate Research Center is coordinating the 2013-2014 Research Training & Mentorship Program for second-year undergraduate students interested in humanities and social sciences research, with the goal of introducing students to academic research training and skill development under the guidance of a graduate student. This will give them experience to approach professors for research opportunities in their third and fourth year. Participating undergraduate students will receive a letter of recommendation based on their performance in the program. Emotionally Intelligent Leadership Series The Emotionally Intelligent Leadership Series (EILS) offers advanced training for experienced student leaders who are currently hold an on or off-campus leadership position. The purpose of EILS is to teach students how to think intentionally about the environment of a leadership situation and how to analyze and adapt their emotions as they influence leadership dynamics. Global Ambassador Mentorship Program Are you interested in expanding your cultural experience and helping the integration of the international community? Become a Global Ambassador and develop strong intercultural leadership and communication skills with hands on experience being a mentor to support new incoming international students. The Global Ambassadors work with the UC Davis Services for International Students and Scholars (SISS) on a mission to successfully integrate international students into the UC Davis campus and U.S. culture. There are no citizenship or permanent residency requirements. Selected ambassadors will take an Intercultural Leadership Class in spring quarter and participate in an internship fall quarter, which includes a transcript notation. Holiday Card Making Event In order to celebrate the many different holidays in December, the International Students Club, Cross Cultural Center, and the Global Ambassadors invites you to the annual Holiday Party and Card Making Event.
