Hello to all! My name is Antti Kekki and I come from Helsinki, capital of northern country of Finland. I’m doing my M. Sc (Tech.) post-grad studies in Aalto University of Chemical Technology and closely in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. I graduated in 2008 for Master’s and I did my thesis about copper hydrometallurgy. I was privileged to visit the Technical University of Košice at the Departmentof Non-Ferrous Metals and Waste Treatment of the Faculty of Metallurgy during spring time 2011 for two months and do part of my post-grad researchof stainless steel recycling by hydrometallurgical leaching methods. Actually, we have a long and special relationship and common research fields in hydrometallurgy between the two Universities, and it is more than appropriate to do common industry related projects together. Our special field in Aalto University research group, led by Prof. Olof Forsén, is corrosion, hydrometallurgy and recovery of valuable metals from liquid phase. This project that I’m involved with theNon-Ferrous Metals and Waste Treatment group, led by Prof. Tomas Havlik, is more related to recycling of stainless steel dust valuable elements and recovery back to process. I was very happy
that I got to work these 2 months with the wonderful, friendly and very skilled research staff in recycling and waste treatment. I learned a lot from them and we managed to re-use secondary acid waste material in leaching of these valuable dusts. We can use these results in further testing and leaching/ recycling process optimization. At the end I would like to thank Prof. Havlik for an extraordinary welcoming atmosphere, the leisure trip to the beautiful mountains, Kosice city tours, Finland winning the ice hockey among many, and all his staff for helping and keeping a company during the quickly passed 2 months.
