WINTER ACTIVITIES FOR FAMILY FUN South Dakota moms know that winter means falling temperatures and antsy kids. Fifth-generation farmers Josh and Kara Kayser grow soybeans in Emery, South Dakota, which means a lot of cold days inside with their four kids. The Kaysers love these five winter activities to keep cabin fever at bay:
Create a frosty masterpiece Let their imagination run wild as they “paint” the snow with diluted food coloring. “The kids will brave the cold temperatures outside and scoop up a big bowl of snow,” said Kara. “They love using different food colorings to make their own unique artwork in the snow. It’s an easy and fun activity they only get to do in the snowy months.”
Spark some healthy competition As the temperature outside drops, heat up the competition with a board game. The Kaysers love Monopoly® and Farkle®. Not into competition? Try a cooperative board game, like Hoot Owl Hoot®.
Engage in a family tradition Josh loves when his kids ask to watch farm videos on YouTube or play with farm toys. “It’s exciting to see them take an interest in what we do on a daily basis,” Josh said. “It’d be great to see our family farming tradition continue on to the sixth generation when our kids grow up.”
