Christopher Vallejo Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Chris started playing guitar at the age of 9. Shortly after, he started to study piano and trombone. Growing up, Chris was exposed to the music of Motown, classic 60's and 70's rock, and jazz by his parents and siblings. He instantly took an interest in the intellectual depth that jazz had to offer. However, he did not begin privately studying jazz until he was 17 years old, when he decided he wanted to make a career out of music. He decided to study jazz in college, but his interest in other genres of music by no means stops there. Currently on music and academic scholarship, Chris attends the University of North Texas College of Music in Denton, Texas. He studies under the direction of Fred Hamilton, Jacob Wise, Noel Johnson and Richard McClure. He has performed with various groups in Denton, including the L-5 Guitar Ensemble, and the 5 and 4 O'Clock Lab Band. Outside of UNT, Chris has studied with Corey Christiansen, Ron Cooley, Chip McNeill, Glen Smith, Steve Erquiaga, Mike Vax, Gerald Clayton, and others.
