What happens when you give something a slight twist? It lends a new perspective on things – and a new look. When Kristina Rosing set about updating the Coco Collection’s pendant, she did it with a subtle twist, which lead to new possibilities in the setting of diamonds on the design, catching the light from different angles.
With the Twisted Alliance ring, the subtle turn of the Möbius band plays a game of peek-a-boo with the diamonds set on one side of the ring, catching the light from different angles, and thus giving additional sparkle to the precious gemstones.

It is time to celebrate—not only Luxury Aficionados and the 100th issue, but also life, Christmas and New Year. Our

With this edition of Luxury Aficionados, we mark a special milestone. This is issue no. 100, and we are proud to publish the magazine in English and share it with readers around the world.
To our Danish subscribers, a brief note: we do not usually publish the magazine in English, but now and again the idea of an international edition is simply too tempting to resist.
A warm welcome as well to our readers outside Denmark. You have chosen to explore a luxury magazine with Scandinavian roots, and I hope you find it worth both your time and your investment.
Luxury, from a Scandinavian perspective, sits a little differently than in countries such as the United Kingdom, France or Italy. You might say that our starting point is more understated. While Scandinavia has its royal families and historic traditions, we do not share the same scale of aristocratic culture and financial wealth found elsewhere in Europe.
“A beautifully printed magazine is, in itself, a symbol of luxury”
So what is luxury, really? To me, luxury is the extra: extra quality, extra effort, extra service, extra care. It is the story of a brand, the craftsmanship behind a product, the service offered by knowledgeable staff, the experience of the purchase, the presentation, and the aftersales care that follows. A true luxury brand must excel in all these aspects. When it does, it earns the loyalty of the world’s most discerning customers.
This is precisely what Luxury Aficionados exists to highlight. We salute those who pursue excellence, honour those with remarkable histories, and remain curious about newcomers bold enough to challenge established leaders.
In this issue, we present our 100 Luxury Icons of the World. All our editors have contributed, and although the discussions were lively, we have reached a final list. At times it is a nod to the past; at others, a reflection of the present. You are, of course, welcome to disagree—this is our perspective.
Looking forward, we remain committed to producing a magazine of the highest quality. To us, a beautifully printed publication with exceptional writing, photography and artwork is itself a symbol of luxury.
I hope you agree.
With my very best wishes for the future.

In the early 1980s, legendary artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960–88) created many of his most compelling and challenging works centred on the human head. Many of these studies have since been interpreted not as living figures but as masked forms — evocative of African art and symbolism.
Basquiat was as fascinated by what lay beneath the surface as by the visible features themselves. He approached the head as more than a physical structure; for him, it represented a threshold between outward appearance and the inner psychological and mental dimensions of human existence. This is evident in his early New York street art and later paintings, but most distinctly in his works on paper.
Now, for the first time, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark, brings together — with loans from collectors across the globe — many of his most significant head images in the
comprehensive exhibition Headstrong – Basquiat on Paper, opening on 30 January 2026.
Basquiat’s drawings outnumber his paintings and sculptural works, forming a continual exploration of his artistic vision using coloured oil sticks on large-scale sheets of paper. Throughout his brief but prolific career, the artist’s devotion to depicting the human head has come to be regarded as a central theme within his oeuvre. With this new curatorial focus, the exhibition further underscores the international fascination with his artistic language and enduring influence on contemporary art.
The large-scale paper works will be shown at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art alongside a selection of additional key pieces, complementing and expanding the scope of this remarkable body of work. The exhibition runs until 17 May 2026. louisiana.dk

The beautiful island of Mallorca has long been a preferred holiday destination for many. But some take things a step further – purchasing a home or holiday retreat on this enchanting Mediterranean island. Step inside this breathtaking house perched high on a rocky clifftop...

The owners of this luxurious Mallorcan residence needed plenty of patience in their quest for the perfect Mediterranean holiday home. It took them no less than three years of careful and persistent searching before they finally found exactly what they had been dreaming of. The house, designed in the late 1950s by the renowned Mallorcan architect Pere Garau, occupies a dramatic clifftop position on the outskirts of Santa Ponsa, in the Calvià district of the island.
The property’s location is nothing short of spectacular. Set on a peninsula-like plot, it enjoys views over two separate bays — one facing the open Mediterranean horizon, the other overlooking the charming harbour town of Santa Ponsa. It proved to be the ideal
→
From the parking area, the main entrance is reached via a short flight of steps leading to what is the upper level on this side of the house. Spanish building regulations require balustrades; transparent glass versions were chosen here so as not to distract from the architecture.
Mallorca is one of the Balearic Islands, part of Spain, situated in the western Mediterranean about 170 km from Barcelona on the mainland. It is the largest of the Balearic Islands, which, together with the group of islands called Pityuses, form an autonomous region under Spanish sovereignty.

choice for the new owners, who have a large family and wanted a holiday haven where friends and relatives from all over the world could gather. Their long-term vision is for the house to evolve from a holiday home into their main residence, once the older members of the family retire.
The existing building had already undergone an extensive renovation during the 1990s, but unfortunately, it included several ill-considered features: unattractive aluminium windows had been added to the façade, and the in -
terior was dominated by glossy marble floors that lent it a rather cold atmosphere. The design-savvy new owners immediately embarked on a comprehensive refurbishment and enlisted the Mallorca-based architecture and design studio Moredesign to take on the ambitious project.
The owners have always been drawn to minimalism and modern design — yet with a desire to embrace historical and rustic touches that reflect the island’s character and surroundings. →

From the entrance, one steps into the elegant living room, part of which forms an intimate seating area. Curtains and blinds were created by Mallorcan upholstery and curtain specialists Tomas Riera while the handwoven wool rug is by Indian maker Sharda.

The centrally located kitchen features bespoke cabinetry made from aged pine. The taps are by Vola.
➝ This covered outdoor dining area, adjacent to the kitchen, is furnished with a table from French designer Triss and a pendant lamp by Italian lighting brand Karman.

They therefore asked Moredesign to use authentic materials that would convey simplicity and tranquillity. Designer Manuel Villanueva explains:
“We wanted to create a place where people feel instantly at ease — where everyone would want to read a book, drift off to sleep or enjoy an intimate conversation. And we wanted the house to feel as though it truly belonged to its setting, making the most of both the morning and afternoon light.”
The renovation began in 2016 and involved significant structural interventions and transformations to the existing house. New staircases, corridors and passageways were added to create a more organic connection between the different areas of the home. The property now comprises eight bedrooms, most with en-suite bathrooms, along with generous indoor and outdoor living spaces, a spacious kitchen, a separate laundry room and an impressive wine cellar. →

In the bedroom, the headboard was custom-made by Mallorcan upholsterer Tomas Riera. The hanging bedside lamps are by Arturo.

The main bathroom features a bespoke washbasin carved from local Binissalem stone, designed by Moredesign and crafted by Mallorcan stone specialists Perpal i Manuella, based in the village of Sóller. The taps are by Vola, and the cabinetry and mirror shelf were custom-made for the space. ➝

The master suite’s bathroom enjoys spectacular views. Its shower floor is made from steel layered with carefully applied microcement. The taps are by Vola.
The striking limited-edition encaustic tiles and concrete basin in this bathroom were crafted by local manufacturer Huguet, while the taps are by Vola.

One of the essential reasons the house now feels so harmonious lies in the way it has been oriented to embrace the surrounding landscape. With its natural stone façade and gently curved roofline, the structure blends seamlessly with the rocky terrain. The unattractive aluminium window frames were replaced with a system that renders the glazing virtually frameless. “They are almost like voids,” says Villanueva, “and when fully opened, they make the house feel as if it’s part of the landscape itself.”
The design also reflects an influence from the more naturalistic – particularly Brazilian – architecture of the midtwentieth century.
“We are great admirers of the Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi,” explains Oro del Negro of Moredesign. “This is reflected in the use of stone cladding, elongated eaves, vast openings, open-plan layouts and the natural incorporation of the landscape as part of the interior. The overall concept is rooted in a functional, pragmatic lifestyle.”
This blurring of boundaries between interior and exterior has been achieved using large windows and doors, as well as the seamless continuation of the same flooring from the interior to the adjacent outdoor terraces. “That’s the true magic of Mediterranean living,” Villanueva adds.

The sweeping eaves created by the home’s undulating roofline also make a huge difference. “These generous overhangs are one of the most defining architectural elements of the Mediterranean,” he explains. “They have been somewhat forgotten – or perhaps simply neglected – in recent decades. They provide protection from rain and, more importantly, from the sun. Being so far
south means that the summer sun is almost vertical, and these overhangs allow us to use extensive glazing without flooding the interior with light that’s too intense or harsh. Instead, the natural light that fills the rooms has a beautiful, gentle softness.”
The interior palette consists of soothing tones of soft beige, off-white and

warm greys. Microcement floors and understated, tactile furnishings are accented with carefully chosen contemporary artworks selected by the owners, creating a minimalist yet inviting atmosphere. Natural textures and materials feature throughout — including Moredesign’s signature use of untreated wood, handcut stone and locally crafted encaustic tiles. The result is a beautifully balanced mix of softness, lightness and transparency – a harmonious dialogue between the modern and the organic. From Saxon precision to Parisian daring, these five watches represent something deeper than desirability — they define moments of horological evolution. Each one stands as proof that true craftsmanship and innovation rarely shout; they speak in detail, history, and quiet confidence.
Iwouldn’t blame you for considering the Rolex Daytona or Patek Philippe Nautilus the pinnacle of horology. After all, they dominate most of our watchrelated feeds — endlessly photographed, relentlessly discussed, and traded like blue-chip stocks. These models have become more than watches; they are cultural shorthand for success, taste, and aspiration. Their silhouettes are so familiar that even a casual glance at a wrist across the room can trigger instant recognition.
Yet that familiarity is precisely the dilemma. The horological universe is vast, intricate, and filled with stories that go far beyond the comfort of icons. For every Nautilus selfie or Daytona unboxing, there are makers quietly pushing boundaries, refining their craft, and reinterpreting what a great watch can be. Some do it through mechanical innovation and obsessive finishing — think A. Lange & Söhne’s architectural precision,
Jaeger-LeCoultre’s quiet mastery, or Laurent Ferrier’s poetic restraint. Others captivate through design intelligence and narrative — the sculptural futurism of the Louis Vuitton Monterey or the enduring balance of the Girard-Perregaux Laureato.
True connoisseurship, after all, isn’t about owning the most recognisable reference. It’s about seeing the nuance — the curve of a lug, the rhythm of a movement, the way a brand’s history resonates in a single glance. Watches, at their best, are not just instruments of time but expressions of intent, identity, and ingenuity.
In celebration of issue no. 100, Luxury Aficionados turns the attention to five timepieces that matter — not merely for their pedigree and provenance, but for the ways they’ve quietly shaped the modern landscape of fine watchmaking. These are watches with stories to tell, substance to reveal, and legacies still in the making.

Few timepieces have reshaped modern watchmaking like the A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1. Introduced in 1994, the 38.5 mm Lange 1 was more than a design statement — it was a declaration of intent from a reborn brand. Its off-centre dial, a radical break from traditional symmetry, became an instant signature. Despite the unconventional layout, its proportions adhere to the golden ratio, achieving a calm visual harmony that feels inevitable once you’ve seen it.
Beneath the surface lies the in-house calibre L901.0 — hand-finished, beautifully constructed, and a proud expression of German craftsmanship. Its threequarter plate, engraved balance cock, and Glashütte stripes rivalled (and arguably surpassed) many Swiss maisons at the time.
Context makes the Lange 1 even more extraordinary. It was one of only four watches unveiled when A. Lange & Söhne was relaunched after German reunification — a rebirth following decades behind the Iron Curtain. The Lange 1 became the symbol of that revival, a quiet but powerful message: Germany was back at the summit of haute horlogerie.
Three decades on, the design remains largely untouched — proof of its perfection. Updated calibres, moonphase variants, perpetual calendars: all evolutions, never revolutions. Like the Datejust or Royal Oak, the Lange 1 transcends trends and defines its own category.
Full disclosure: I wear one in white gold myself. But bias aside, its importance is undeniable. The Lange 1 tells a story of revival, precision, and permanence — and that, more than its beauty, is what makes it timeless.
Price: €47,400 (white gold)

Few watches balance innovation, elegance, and heritage quite like the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso. Born in 1931 in response to a challenge from British polo players in India: Protect our watches from shattered crystals. The solution was stylish: A reversible case that was both ingenious and beautiful — form serving function with architectural grace.
With its rectangular silhouette and Art Deco geometry, the Reverso has remained in continuous production for over 90 years — a near-miraculous feat in an industry obsessed with novelty. What began as a practical sports watch evolved into an emblem of refinement and discreet luxury. Inside its swivelling frame, Jaeger-LeCoultre has housed everything from minute repeaters to tourbillons. The Duoface model — two dials,
one movement — remains one of the cleverest mechanical concepts of modern watchmaking. The solid caseback, once a shield, became a canvas — engraved initials, miniature enamel portraits, personal tributes. Every Reverso tells its owner’s story, and if you simply flip it over and forget the time, that too feels quietly luxurious.
As a cultural icon, it now graces red carpets and collectors’ wrists alike. Lenny Kravitz, now a Jaeger-LeCoultre ambassador, has worn his Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon to both the Oscars and MTV Video Music Awards — proof that few designs age as effortlessly as this one.
The Reverso didn’t just change the face of watchmaking. It flipped it. Price: approx. €128,000
The Laurent Ferrier Sport Auto marked a turning point for the Geneva atelier — its first foray into the luxury sports watch genre. Deeply personal, it reflects Ferrier’s dual life as a master watchmaker and Le Mans racer, including his memorable podium finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans alongside François Servanin, who would later become his business partner.
The tonneau-shaped case the Sport Auto blends vintage curves with contemporary restraint, a softer counterpoint to the sharp geometry of the Royal Oak or Nautilus. (Ferrier, incidentally, worked on the latter as Creative Director during his four decades at Patek Philippe.)
Inside beats the LF270.01 calibre — automatic, micro-rotor, impeccably hand-finished, and equipped with a 950-platinum oscillating weight.
Every element, from design to assembly, takes place in-house. In a quiet nod to Ferrier’s racing past, the micro-rotor bears engraved references to the 1979 Le Mans race — a secret only the owner will notice.
Early examples even contained a charming typo: “Faster Lab” instead of “Fastest Lab.” Whether that becomes a collector’s quirk is anyone’s guess.
Beyond the anecdotes, the Sport Auto proves that true independents can thrive in the world of integrated luxury sports watches. It’s a piece born from precision, passion, and personal legacy — where motorsport meets the metronomic heart and elegance of haute horlogerie.
Price: €50,000 (titanium)

The Louis Vuitton Monterey represents the maison’s most confident stride yet into serious watchmaking. Under Jean Arnault’s direction and crafted at La Fabrique du Temps, the 2025 Monterey revives Louis Vuitton’s first watch — originally designed in 1988 by Italian architect Gae Aulenti — and reimagines it for the 21st century.
Aulenti, best known for transforming the Gare d’Orsay into the Musée d’Orsay, brought her bold, sculptural sensibility to the original Monterey. The connection between that grand Parisian station clock and the Monterey’s architectural geometry feels more than coincidental — both reinterpret time as art. This new Monterey combines futuristic form with
mechanical substance. Its sculpted case and integrated bracelet are both statement and structure. Inside, a flying tourbillon movement crafted entirely at La Fabrique du Temps affirms that Louis Vuitton now competes on horological, not merely aesthetic, terms.
Far from a fashion accessory, the Monterey is a manifesto — an avantgarde expression of where high design and high watchmaking converge. It challenges expectations, commands attention, and positions Louis Vuitton not as an outsider in the watch world, but as a disruptive force to be taken seriously.
Limited to 188 pieces, €56,000

One of the original integrated sports watches of the 1970s, the Laureato celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025 with the aptly named Laureato Fifty — a loving homage to the 1975 original.
As Marc Michel-Amadry of GirardPerregaux explained to me during Geneva Watch Days: “The pedigree of the Laureato lies in the fact that it is the only integrated watch from the golden era produced entirely in-house — from design to movement.”
The new 39 mm model combines steel and 3N yellow gold in perfect proportion. A refined nod to 1975 with a modern edge. The bracelet tapers gracefully, with domed gold links and hidden fineadjustment — discreet luxury at its most tactile.
Inside, the all-new Calibre 4800 — eight years in development — is an automatic movement inspired by the maison’s iconic Three Bridges architecture. It’s visible through the sapphire caseback, a quiet celebration of continuity and craft.
“We wanted to create a special movement for a special celebration. We are a true and authentic manufacture. The Laureato is the very essence of GirardPerregaux,” says Amadry. “You cannot separate the brand from its manufacture — they are one and the same.”
Fifty years on, the Laureato remains what it has always been: effortlessly elegant, mechanically accomplished, and entirely its own.
Limited to 200 pieces, €27,300

As icons of beauty, preciousness and desire, high-jewellery necklaces embody the ultimate expression of luxury and love. From choker to sautoir, from bold contemporary statements to timeless heirlooms, these creations showcase the virtuosity of the world’s finest maisons . Celebrating craftsmanship and eternal elegance, they command admiration as spectacular signatures on the stylistic stage.
Whether choker-short or sautoir-long, single row or bib, necklaces of every kind have gained a fashionable new lease of life. As a jewellery category, they possess exceptional show-off value and often serve as the defining pieces of a collection. Length is everything: a short necklace draws the eye to a woman’s neck – one of the most sensuous parts of the body – while a long pearl rope moves gracefully as she walks, instantly transforming even the simplest black dress. The category thrives on designers’ creativity, brimming with vitality and experimentation.
Whether adorned with pendants or not, necklaces glorify models on the runway, grace film stars on the red carpet and lend allure to singers on stage. A recent case in point was the global stir caused by Sabrina Carpenter at the 2025 Grammys, her Chopard sautoir with a diamond pendant draped elegantly down her back. If bags are about status and shoes about sex, then jewellery is beauty – eternal beauty. These dazzling showpieces demand a woman confident enough to embody their power. With seduction and elegance at their core, such creations continue to serve as flagships of prestige. And that, ultimately, is what sustains our fascination with jewellery: love with a capital L – bought, given and worn to mark life’s most extraordinary moments.

2 February 2025,

The Italian jewellery house Bulgari is world-famous for combining the most vibrantly coloured gemstones in magnificent, voluminous creations – and for this purpose, the cabochon cut highlights the starring characters of glamorous gem-set necklaces. With its arched dome, this ancient cut remains the most efficient way to shape and polish a gemstone: its rounded form offers maximum protection against chips that might otherwise damage a faceted gem. While displaying colour to the greatest advantage, it also preserves much of the rough stone’s original weight.
Bulgari’s Polychroma collection is a daring ode to colour, plurality, polymorphism and multidimensionality – a universe of chromatic love of movement that redefines the limits of artistic expression through extraordinary gemstones and audacious design. The necklace Polychromatic Bloom radiates Bulgari’s unapologetic joie de vivre. Crafted from more than 500 gemstones set in rose gold, three exceptional gems steal the show: a 106.36-carat rubellite, a 55.52-carat peridot and a 55.11-carat tanzanite. Together, the trio form an elegant yet daring composition amidst diamonds, tsavorites, pink sapphires, mandarin garnets, demantoids, tourmalines, rubellites and amethysts in a variety of cuts, arranged in blossoming petals – their classic appeal counterbalanced by the striking modernity of the graphic chain. Nature and human artistry unite to deliver magnificent opulence.

”A universe of chromatic love of movement that redefines the limits of artistic expression”
Since its first appearance in 1914, the Cartier panther has roamed myriad landscapes –from Persian gardens to verdant jungles and azure oceans. For the signature necklace Panthère Citadine from the new En Équilibre collection, two felines prowl through an abstract environment inspired by the architecture of a modern megalopolis. True to the French maison’s naturalistic tradition, the animals are rendered with striking realism in a sculptural form that contrasts with the highly graphic structure of the piece – an architectural construction in miniature. Repeated geometric motifs echo the rectangular form of the set of Zambian emeralds.
In keeping with the collection’s name, the necklace explores the concept of balance: nature and culture in harmony; the organic and the abstract juxtaposed; equilibrium and tension; innovation and tradition; the simple and the superlative. The emerald – famous for its lush jardin, its garden of inclusions – is set against the diamond, prized for its perfect clarity and colourlessness. Made of 18-carat white gold, the necklace is set with four cabochon-cut emeralds from Zambia totalling 30.91 carats and seven sugarloaf emeralds. The two panthers have emerald eyes, onyx spots and noses, and their surroundings are set with square-shaped emerald-cut and brilliant-cut diamonds. Thus, Cartier’s iconic totem animal is once again free to roam.

There is a golden hour that disappears as fleetingly as it appears: that instant when the sky abandons azure blue to wrap itself in pink and mauve, as the blazing orange sun sinks beneath a thin golden line on the horizon, infusing every movement with soft magic. This golden hour is Chanel’s vision of glamour – the inspiration for Patrice Leguéreau and the Chanel Fine Jewelry Creation Studio in conceiving the Reach for the Stars collection. Its monochrome creations – black and white or adorned with flamboyantly coloured stones – pay tribute to three of Gabrielle Chanel’s most emblematic symbols: the comet, the wings and the lion.
Echoing one of Gabrielle Chanel’s mottos, “If you were born without wings, do nothing to prevent them from growing”, the abovementioned design team has interpreted the wings as a motif for the very first time. In this necklace, the wings are crafted in white gold and platinum and set with 850 diamonds, totalling 78.18 carats, ensuring the wearability of the Wings of Chanel necklace as it gracefully unfolds to wrap around the neck. The masterpiece is centred on an exceptional 19.55-carat cushion-cut Padparadscha sapphire in subtle, delicate shades of pink and orange, enhanced by a trail of sparkling diamonds. True to the spirit of Chanel, the piece is transformable, offering women freedom and choice: the pendant line can be removed and worn alone as a bracelet, while the necklace can simultaneously be styled in a shorter version.

The story of Chopard’s Insofu collection began in 2022 in Paris, when Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director, unveiled an astonishing 6,225-carat rough emerald unearthed in Zambia a few years earlier. Awestruck, the miners had named it Insofu – meaning “elephant” in the local Bemba language – a nod to its trunk-like shape and unprecedented size. Cutting the rough took nearly a year, as emeralds are notoriously fragile and demand the utmost expertise. Ultimately, Insofu yielded 850 carats of breathtaking emeralds – each a testament to the gem-cutters’ skill and dedication. Since then, Chopard has unveiled a haute joaillerie collection of 15 exquisite pieces, at the heart of which lies an elephant-shaped pendant paying tribute to its namesake. Suspended from a long chain interspersed with emeralds and diamonds, the pendant – crafted in ethical 18-carat white gold and platinum and set with a total of 24.97 carats of pear-shaped emeralds, 21.75 carats of oval-shaped emeralds, 0.46 carats of brilliant-cut emeralds and 2.04 carats of brilliant-cut diamonds – is ingeniously transformable into a brooch. Part of the proceeds from each piece sold in the collection is donated to support the non-profit organisation Elephant Family, whose work focuses on mitigating human-elephant conflict, safeguarding migratory corridors and fostering community engagement to promote coexistence – ensuring that Asia’s biodiverse landscapes remain truly wild for generations to come.

”Cutting the rough took nearly a year, as emeralds are notoriously fragile and demand the utmost expertise”

Large necklaces make powerful style statements, and the house of Graff invites us to explore the limitless possibilities of the colour yellow – the hue of sunlight itself. Graff has been enamoured of this particular shade of diamond since its founding in the mid-20th century, and this necklace features over 71 carats of pear-shaped yellow diamonds, seamlessly interlinked with pear-shaped colourless diamonds. Each gemstone is meticulously chosen by the Graff family for its perfect match, rich intensity and radiant brilliance, creating a flawlessly symmetrical design that flows rhythmically, the yellow diamonds forming a clean central line for unparalleled elegance. The colourless diamonds are angled precisely, producing a scalloped effect that culminates in a detachable 22.08-carat yellow diamond drop surrounded by a halo of colourless diamonds, set in yellow and white gold. Graff’s gemmologists and designers carefully studied and positioned each of the 43 yellow diamonds to ensure perfect harmony with their colourless counterparts, for a total of 187.64 carats. Each stone required a bespoke collet to achieve precise depth and alignment, ensuring that neither hue overwhelms the other. The design incorporates negative space as an integral element, creating definition and allowing light and shadow to play across the stones, enhancing the necklace’s overall visual impact.

Tiffany & Co.’s Blue Book 2025 collection, Sea of Wonder, is inspired by and celebrates the ocean’s boundless beauty, allure and motion. Designed by Nathalie Verdeille, the house’s Chief Artistic Officer for Jewellery and High Jewellery, the collection embarks on a surreal journey from the figurative to the abstract, paying homage to Jean Schlumberger’s legendary aquatic designs. These pieces dive into the depths, where the inexhaustible variety of marine flora and fauna transforms into an ethereal world of wonder. With a palette that mirrors the iridescent shimmer of underwater light and the bioluminescent dances of oceanic creatures, the collection stands as a testament to Tiffany & Co.’s enduring commitment to creativity, craftsmanship and reverence for nature’s mysteries.
Each chapter of Sea of Wonder delves into a distinct underwater realm, evoking everything from vibrant coral gardens to the dramatic movement of waves. The Seahorse chapter, inspired by Schlumberger’s iconic 1968 brooches, reimagines these creatures with a contemporary twist. Fluted moonstones and an intricate arrangement of coloured gemstones – including zircons and sapphires –create texture and contrast, bringing these mythical beings to life with elegance and complexity. The Seahorse Blue Zircon Necklace, crafted in platinum and 18-carat yellow gold, is set with more than 93 carats of blue zircons, sapphires, moonstones and diamonds.

The Loro Piana Spagna jacket embodies the Maison’s vision of quiet, understated luxury. Tailored from the world’s finest fabrics, from supple cashmere blends to lightweight technical wools, it balances comfort, function and elegance. Its meticulous craftsmanship and refined cut make it a modern icon of Italian tailoring, where sophistication is expressed through texture, fit and detail rather than embellishment. Unveiled at the 1929 Salon d’Automne by Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand alongside Le Corbusier, the LC furniture series redefined modern living. Tubular steel, full-grain leather and glass were deployed with radical clarity, merging comfort with the avant-garde aesthetics of the machine age. In 1964, Cassina acquired exclusive global production rights, ensuring rigorous supervision by the Le Corbusier Foundation and the designers’ heirs. Today, each piece remains an exemplar of functional purity—timeless, architectural and still unmatched in its blend of industrial precision and sculptural elegance.

As the world’s leading manufacturers unveil their 2026 line-ups, redefining the future of electrified performance, the Mercedes-Maybach V12 Edition reminds us that unparalleled craftsmanship and heritage remain timelessly captivating.

Polestar 5 marks a bold evolution for the Swedish-founded, Chineseowned brand – a sleek four-door electric Grand Tourer that blends Scandinavian design purity with cutting-edge performance. Evolving from the striking 2020 Precept concept, the Polestar 5 captures the essence of modern luxury: minimalist, sustainable and quietly powerful.
Built on a bonded aluminium platform and powered by an 800-volt electric architecture, it delivers up to 650 kW and 1,015 Nm, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds. Yet it’s as much about grace as it is about speed. Inside, the cabin is a masterclass in calm sophistication, with responsibly sourced Nappa leather, natural fibre composites and a panoramic glass roof that floods the interior with light.
With a Bowers & Wilkins sound system and seamless Google-based infotainment, the Polestar 5 stands as both a technological achievement and a lifestyle statement –a new benchmark for electric Grand Touring, where Scandinavian serenity meets electric exhilaration.

At the historic Fort Michelangelo in Civitavecchia, Mercedes-Benz unveiled one of its most exclusive creations to date: the MercedesMaybach V12 Edition. Limited to just 50 examples, this special S 680 is a refined salute to the legendary Maybach Zeppelin models that first established the brand’s V12 tradition in the early 20th century.

The exterior alone signals its rarity. A meticulously hand-applied twotone finish – Manufaktur olive metallic over obsidian black – accented by a hightech silver pinstripe, takes up to ten days to perfect. Gold-accented Maybach emblems, forged wheels in matching olive metallic and a commemorative “12” medallion crafted in 24-carat gold underscore its bespoke character.
Inside, the cabin is a showcase of Manufaktur artistry. Saddle-brown Nappa leather, high-gloss burr walnut and a handcrafted steering wheel create a warm, indulgent atmosphere. Diamond-quilted roof lining, special embroidery and a “1 of 50” badge highlight the car’s rarity.
Yet this is luxury with power at its core. The 6.0-litre V12 engine produces 612 hp and 900 Nm, propelling the limousine from 0–100 km/h in 4.5 seconds with serene ease. Advanced comfort features, including active noise compensation and rear-axle steering ensure every journey feels effortless.
With bespoke accessories and unparalleled attention to detail, the V12 Edition is not just a car, but a modern expression of timeless luxury.

Volvo’s journey towards a fully electric future has entered its most sophisticated phase yet with the start of production of the new ES90 – an elegant, all-electric sedan that redefines what modern Scandinavian luxury can be. Set to arrive in the first half of 2026, the ES90 embodies the brand’s triad of values: safety, sustainability and intelligent design. Built on Volvo’s advanced SPA2 platform and featuring next-generation computing power, it is the most technologically capable Volvo ever created. The model debuts the brand’s 800volt architecture, enabling faster charging and greater range than any previous Volvo EV, while continuous over-the-air updates ensure that its systems evolve seamlessly with time.
Beyond its impressive engineering, the ES90 captures the aesthetic purity that defines Nordic design: refined yet purposeful, blending the stately silhouette of

a sedan with the practicality of a fastback and the stance of an SUV. Produced at Volvo’s climate-neutral facility in Chengdu, China, the ES90 also represents one of the company’s lowest carbon footprints to date. With pre-orders already open in select European markets, the ES90 signals not just a new model, but a confident stride into Volvo’s electric future – one where elegance meets innovation without compromise.
In the first half of 2026, Range Rover will unveil what may well be its most significant model to date – the first fully electric Range Rover. Far from being a radical departure, the new Range Rover Electric represents the natural evolution of an icon, merging timeless British craftsmanship with state-of-the-art electric performance.
Built on an advanced 800-volt architec-
ture, the SUV promises rapid DC charging, exceptional efficiency and remarkable driving refinement. Beneath its sculpted exterior lies a battery system managed by cutting-edge thermal technology, ensuring consistent power delivery whether cruising through the city or tackling remote terrain.
Inside, serenity reigns. The cabin remains unmistakably Range Rover, defined by exquisite materials, meticulous detail-
ing and near-total silence. Every element is crafted to enhance comfort and composure, reaffirming that true luxury lies in effortlessness. The Range Rover Electric is more than an addition to the line-up; it is a statement of intent. By embracing electrification without compromising its core values of capability, refinement and presence, Range Rover is not merely adapting to the future – it is shaping it. ■

Stretching nearly five metres and cloaked in carbon fibre, the 2025 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante delivers a rare blend of sophistication, ferocity and technological finesse. Its 835 PS V12, lightning-sharp Boost Reserve system and meticulously crafted cabin make it a super-GT for enthusiasts who still believe opera should be performed in octane.

The world is changing rapidly, and one could argue that the sound of 12 cylinders beneath the long bonnet of a two-seat sports car is a relic of another era. Electrification and environmental considerations have taken centre stage. Yet Aston Martin insists on keeping its V12 alive, and with 835 PS, the marque has elevated it to an entirely new level. The engine sits at the heart of the new, top-of-the-line Vanquish.
The previous Vanquish bowed out in 2019, but its return has been worth the wait. First reintroduced as a coupé and now as the open-air Volante (Aston Martin’s designation for convertibles), it offers an experience few EVs can replicate. With a 0–100 km/h time of 3.4 seconds, it is not significantly faster on paper than a Tesla Model 3 Performance. But speed is more than numbers. It’s the raw sound, the punch of each gearshift, and the surreal sense of the world blurring as the car surges past 200 km/h with seemingly endless reserves of power.
Aston Martin has been producing cars since 1913, when Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford founded the company and named it after the Aston Hill Climb where Martin successfully raced. The V12, however, is a relatively new addition to the brand’s engine family, which historically consisted of V6s and V8s. In 1999, under Ford ownership, Aston Martin fitted a V12 to the DB7 Vantage and began a new tradition that placed it squarely in competition with its Italian rivals.
The first- and second-generation naturally aspirated 5.9-litre V12s topped out at 595 PS by 2018. The new unit is an entirely different beast: 5.2 litres, twin turbochargers, 835 PS and 1,000 Nm. That is precisely five PS more than Ferrari’s 12Cilindri. Coincidence? Possibly. But who wouldn’t? In essence, the V12 has evolved from a high-revving, naturally aspirated sculpture into a technologically advanced, turbocharged powerhouse.

“It’s still an 835 PS supercar with rear-wheel drive, and even though it has several clever systems to keep you from skidding into the horizon when accelerating through a corner, you need to be wide awake and focused when letting out the horses”
The Volante weighs 95 kg more than the coupé due to the roof mechanism and additional strengthening, but it remains alarmingly quick. The on-paper numbers set high expectations—3.4 sec -
onds to 100 km/h and a 345 km/h top speed—but it’s the way it reaches them that feels almost primeval. Specify the lightweight titanium exhaust (as fitted to the test car), lower the roof in 14 seconds,
and the full operatic drama unfolds. The experience becomes addictive: accelerate, lift off, repeat. It is gut-wrenching, ear-drumming theatre—something you may not think you want but will struggle to resist.
The engine note? Imagine an orchestra where every instrument is a lion with impeccable British manners. The quad-exit system features active valves, allowing you to switch from “quiet arrival at the opera” to “symphony of thunder” at the push of a button.
As expected from a twin-turbo V12 with 835 PS, the engine dominates the

driving experience. The Volante is a tenth slower than the coupé, but with the roof down and the wind tearing past, it feels far quicker than the numbers suggest. Like the coupé, it features Aston’s clever new Boost Reserve system, which helps the turbos respond with near-instant force. Accelerate in too high a gear and you might momentarily catch it out but drop a couple of gears via the wheelmounted paddles and you can feel the stored pressure unleash itself in a distinct wave of controlled violence.
The Pirelli tyres will struggle for traction in the wet, but on dry roads the car is surprisingly sure-footed. Still, don’t provoke it: this is an 835 PS, rearwheel-drive supercar. Despite a suite of smart systems designed to keep you out of the hedgerow, you need to stay alert when letting the horses run.
The additional weight sits mostly towards the rear, giving the Volante a nearperfect 50:50 balance. The steering has satisfying heft and never feels overly assisted, while the e-diff calmly meters out

power to the rear wheels through bends. Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard, delivering immense stopping power, and Aston’s multi-stage traction control system lets you dial back the assistance in measured increments.
Visually, the car is breathtaking almost five metres of sculpted elegance. The aluminium-intensive platform is wrapped in carbon-fibre bodywork that delivers strength without unnecessary mass.

Inside, a 12-inch configurable digital instrument cluster is paired with a fastresponding 10.25-inch central touchscreen running Aston Martin’s latest interface—a substantial upgrade from the recycled Mercedes tech that lingered in earlier models. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, while the 1,200-watt Bang & Olufsen system delivers crystalline audio, whether you prefer your playlist or the V12’s basso profundo. Cloud-based navigation and over-the-air updates keep everything current.
Safety and driver-assistance tech include adaptive cruise control, lanekeep assist, blind-spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking and a 360-degree camera system, ensuring stress-free manoeuvring—even in tight valet spaces. Traffic Sign Recognition is also included, which, admittedly, removes any plausible deniability should you be stopped for speeding.

The 2025 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante is far more than a pretty face. It’s a technological tour de force wrapped in a design that stops conversations midsentence. Luxury and exhilaration meet cutting-edge engineering, making every journey as effortless as it is unforgettable.
Some owners will happily use an electric car for daily driving, but for pure excitement—for octane-fuelled opera—nothing comes close to a V12. Enthusiast cars like this still have a place, and this one will remain at the top of many wish lists for years to come. ■

With a new approach, BMW has created the safest 7-Series Protection vehicle ever. It is all about the art of staying untouchable. We have tested and pushed BMW’s four-tonne bulletproof luxury limousine to its limits – short of throwing grenades and firing at it.
This is the story of the car – and of BMW’s protection vehicles.
BMW doesn’t usually allow the media anywhere near its protection vehicles. After all, what’s the point in making them if you reveal the exact specifications, weak points, and limitations to the world? But this time, they made an exception for a small, pre-selected group (each approved by the authorities), and apparently, Luxury Aficionados’ correspondent made the cut. Because here I am, behind the wheel of a BMW 7-Series armoured vehicle on a closed circuit outside Arlanda Airport in Stockholm, Sweden.
There are, of course, things we’re not allowed to write about. Some of the videos we’ve seen of the car being fired at, and some of the finer details – like how much TNT it can withstand – are strictly between BMW and ourselves. But we did see it and believe me: the footage was both surprising and convincing. The 7-Series Protection is a true armoured car.
BMW began making protection vehicles back in 1978. In the wake of the German terrorist group Rote Armee Fraktion, which kidnapped both politicians and industrial tycoons throughout the 1970s, there was a growing demand for cars that could withstand small-arms fire. The result was the first armoured 7-Series. Since then, BMW has had a dedicated division for protection vehicles. Initially, it was only the 7-Series, but with the rise of SUVs around the turn of the millennium, BMW decided to armour the X5 as well.
Today, both the X5 and the 7-Series are available as armoured variants – and you can even special-order armoured versions of the BMW X1 and 3-Series Sedan. If you fancy speed with light protection, there’s even an armoured M3. The X5 and 7-Series, however, are the only models produced in larger numbers. BMW won’t disclose how many, but the market – particularly in Latin America – is significant. That’s why the X5 Protection is built in Mexico, while the 7-Series is produced in Germany.
Armoured vehicles are rated on the VR scale, with VR1 being lightly protected and VR10 the highest achieved by a civilian car – apart from the American president’s “The Beast”, which is VR12. A standard military personnel carrier is rated VR14. The X1 and 3-Series sit below VR4, the X5 is VR6 (able to withstand fire from regular military rifles such as Kalashnikovs), while the 7-Series can be armoured up to VR10 –capable of surviving two heavy-duty hand grenades and sniper rifle rounds.
You can always add more armour, but the art of protection vehicles lies in making them look like regular cars, not tanks. Politicians want to appear approachable, not barricaded. The X5 Protection looks almost identical to a regular X5, while the 7-Series shows a few giveaways – wide black window frames and its distinctive run-flat tyres.

Of course, it’s one thing to build a car that can take a volley of automatic gunfire or a couple of grenades. But as BMW puts it, it’s the ability to move – to get out of danger – that ultimately saves lives. The 7-Series Protection has a one-tonne steel core. Add the armoured doors and thick safety glass, and you’re looking at more than two tonnes added to an already two-tonne car. Yet it still needs to accelerate, corner, and brake like a BMW.
Anyone who’s ever cycled with a passenger on the rear bike rack knows what extra weight does to dynamics. But the engi -

“BMW won’t say who buys them – but it’s safe to assume they serve governments and business leaders across the globe”

neers behind the Protection Series have BMW’s M-division on speed dial – and the performance experts there know a thing or two about precision and control.
I get inside and sit myself behind the steering wheel. Finally, it is time to drive. Through the first corners and brake tests, the car’s weight is obvious. But as I push it further through evasive manoeuvres, my skepticism fades. BMW claims it only needs one metre more than the standard 7-Series to brake from 100 km/h to a standstill. And thanks to four-wheel steering, it changes direction more like a cat than a cow – surprising, given it weighs twice as much as its unarmoured sibling. Even
with M-division magic, physics still applies, but it drives like a BMW, not a truck – despite its four-tonne mass.
I’ll be turning 47 on my next birthday, yet I still haven’t outgrown the childish urge to press the buttons I’m not supposed to. In the 7-Series Protection, that would be the small red button on the centre console – strictly for emergencies only. Pressing it detonates small explosives at each door hinge, blowing the 250-kg armoured doors clean off. Short of a genuine emergency (and mediocre coffee in the media lounge doesn’t quite qualify), I resist. But oh, how I want to press it.
There are, however, other exclusive buttons I am allowed to try: the siren, the blue lights, and the external loudspeaker
“BMW rarely lets the media anywhere near its protection vehicles. After all, what’s the point of building them if you reveal their secrets to the world?”

that lets you address people outside without lowering the windows. The car also features an integrated firesuppression system capable of extinguishing flames under the car or in the engine bay, and an oxygen supply that increases cabin pressure during a gas attack – preventing toxins from entering the passenger compartment.
At the heart of the 7-Series Protection is the BMW Protection Core – a self-supporting armoured cell made of hardened steel, combined with reinforced doors, underbody armour, and safety glass. This integrated structure ensures maximum protection while maintaining comfort. The cabin is only six centimetres narrower than a standard 7-Series, and from the rear seat, you’d hardly notice – until you open the doors and feel their immense weight, although they are assisted by discreet electric motors.
The BMW 7-Series Protection is powered by a 530hp V8 engine, but it also comes as the fully electric i7
Protection – the world’s first certified all-electric protection sedan. Its two motors deliver up to 544 hp. BMW won’t say who buys these cars, but the clientele includes governments and business leaders worldwide. In Latin America, where kidnapping and organised crime remain concerns, the lighter-armoured vehicles are especially popular. Some countries restrict civilians from owning cars above VR4, but in Europe and North America, there are no such limitations. The 7-Series is favoured by heads of state, while the X5 is preferred by special forces and bodyguards for its agility and off-road capability.
These cars’ resilience is extraordinary – but it’s their ability to move that truly defines them. In the hands of a skilled driver, they can avoid or escape danger long before the armour and bulletproof glass come into play. After all, real protection is not just about surviving trouble. It is about avoiding it altogether. ■

With the MCPURA , MASERATI has taken its finest supercar and distilled it into an even purer expression of what the marque has always stood for. It’s faster, more luxurious, and more intoxicating than the original MC20.

There’s something uniquely graceful about it. Unlike most other supercars – and unlike Maserati’s other models, for that matter. From the way it looks, to how the doors open and the way it moves. Everything feels like a harmonious whole, especially against the backdrop of Liguria, Italy. Beautiful like few others, with perfect proportions, a mid-mounted engine, and power truly worthy of a supercar. Welcome to Maserati’s latest creation: the MCPura.
Once the design has settled in your mind, a question arises: “Haven’t I seen this car before?” And chances are, you have. The MCPura isn’t an all-new model but rather a refined evolution of the MC20, which first appeared in 2020. With this subtle update – more an elegant evolution than a revolution – Maserati has also changed the name. The reasoning, as Maserati’s PR team reluctantly explains nosey reporters at the launch event, lies in its symbolism. Pura is Italian for pure, representing the return to the brand’s original values: pure speed, pure luxury, pure passion.
Five years after the MC20’s debut, Maserati presents its refined evolution: the MCPura.

Engine
Located behind the steering wheel we get to experience it all along the stunning Italian Riviera, between Tuscany and Liguria. In truth, the MCPura remains close to the MC20 beneath its sculpted surface. Most changes are visual refinements – a sharper front end, a few new materials in the cabin, and a redesigned steering wheel. The front now looks crisper and more assertive, while at the rear, the updates are so subtle that you’d need both versions side by side to spot the differences. Inside the car, as the spectacular butterfly doors swing open, you’re greeted first by the exposed carbon monocoque and then by a cabin defined by restraint. Between driver and passenger sits a carbon-fibre console housing a rotary drive-mode selector, a button for Drive, and another for Reverse – and that’s about it. The new steering wheel, now flattened at both top and bottom, introduces a few extra controls, and most of the interior is now lined with generous amounts of Alcantara –a material that instantly evokes racing pedigree.

Otherwise, little has changed. The central infotainment screen and door-opening buttons are straight from the Fiat warehouse. Yes, the screen is the very same unit found in a Fiat 500 – and frankly, I find it disappointing. It feels cheap, looks misplaced, and sits awkwardly proud in the middle of the dashboard. Resolution and responsiveness leave much to be desired, and since nearly every function is found within the menus, the frustration mounts quickly. Even raising or lowering the roof requires delving into submenus and pressing virtual buttons. Impractical, yes –and while practicality isn’t top priority in a car like this, elegance and functionality certainly should be.
Mechanically, everything from the MC20 carries over – most notably the powerful twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 producing 630 hp and 730 Nm of torque. With a weight just under 1,500 kg, performance is predictably fierce: 0–100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 325 km/h.

”Whether navigating narrow Italian streets, driving through mountain hairpins, or storming down the autostrada, the MCPura handles it all with ease”
From the outset, Maserati designed the MC20 to be usable on an everyday basis – and it shows. Whether navigating narrow Italian streets, driving through mountain hairpins, or storming down the autostrada, the MCPura handles it all with ease, even when the quality of the Italian roads differ. There is, however, a trade-off: the engine lacks a bit of wildness. Turbo lag is noticeable, and the sound is more muted than you might expect. The best experience comes when using the exquisite paddle shifters and keeping the revs high – only then do the twin turbos truly come alive. The dual-clutch gearbox is near-perfect in normal driving but can occasionally hesitate under pressure.
The suspension, on the other hand, needs no forgiveness. It’s superb – perhaps the Pura’s greatest strength. The front-end bites eagerly, and the rear dances playfully on exit. Just the way

a supercar should. Even on public roads, it’s clear the limits are far beyond reach. Yet it’s comfortable too: long motorway drives are a pleasure, with the adaptive suspension soaking up imperfections gracefully. Daily use feels entirely plausible – aside from the low ride height, of course. Thankfully, a noselift button on the steering wheel solves that elegantly.
Four driving modes further shape the car’s character
Unlike in many cars where the differences are cosmetic, here they’re profound. Wet – for slippery surfaces, softening throttle and suspension. GT – the default, and our favourite: the ideal balance of comfort, speed, and responsiveness. Sport and Corsa – for the track, though perhaps too aggressive for road use. In Corsa, the shifts are brutal and the suspension unyielding. Truth be told, the MCPura doesn’t belong on a racetrack. It would perform brilliantly there, but that’s not its essence. The design – especially in the open-top Cielo version – is breathtaking. It radiates sophistication rather than aggression, something few Ferraris or Lamborghinis can claim. If you care about presence, the MCPura earns more admiring glances, smiles, and thumbs-up than its louder compatriots ever could. All in all, the new MCPura is an impressive machine – beautifully balanced, thrillingly fast, and unmistakably Italian. Its versatility, combined with genuine supercar performance, makes it a true contemporary masterpiece. ■
”Its versatility, combined with its authentic supercar performance, makes it stand out as a 100% true Italian masterpiece”
