central coast polo club

Ways to Play on the Central Coast

ow did CC Polo get started? We got started in 2002. The idea was for myself and some friends to start the club off campus and be able to play yearround, start a junior league and assist the Cal Poly team with consistent, year

round management. Where are you located and how long have you been in business? 2320 Clark Valley Road, on the corner of Los Osos Valley Road and Clark Valley Road. We have been at this location since 2003. Do you have to be an experienced equestrian to participate? We welcome non-riders and riders out to Central Coast Polo to watch, learn to play, c o m p e t e and sponsor the teams. It is a very family friend, equestrian, athletic outdoor

activity! Do I have to own my own horse? Central Coast Polo Club has 18 school horses for use in lessons, to lease for games, and also provides boarding for up to 80 horses. You don’t have to own a horse to play polo… but if you do, we can care

for and board your equine athlete. What are the ages and divisions? Junior Polo is for 8yrs – 19yrs and is played May – September. Middle school league is 5th – 8th grade and is played September – November. High School (or

Scholastic polo) is 8th12th grade and is played September – March. Collegiate Polo is for 18-25 yr olds and is year round, but the season is September-April. Summer league is for all ages (8-80yrs.) and is played May – September.

looked up to for 20 years, verbally accolade my teaching, coaching and management of Central Coast Polo club, at a December Instructors Forum. It was inspirational and gave me great ‘fuel’ to continue to pursue my passion.

What do you pride yourself on? We pride ourselves in providing a safe teaching and competitive venue for all levels of polo players, and give special attention to the safe and proper care of the equine athlete.

Is there anything we didn’t ask or something you would like to say to the community? Our club is definitely a ‘family’, and we love traveling throughout California together competing against other clubs and players. We welcome anyone with a positive and competitive spirit, with or without riding/horse experience.

What is the most inspirational thing that has happened to you? Having my mentors, and those that I have >mddkhYoal`eYkkY_]$^Y[aYdk$eYfa[mj]k$h]\a[mj]k$ `Yaj[mlkgh]flgl`]hmZda[ ?Yj\]fYj]Y^gjZYfim]lke]]laf_k HadYl]k$C]ehg$LYa;`a$_jgmhĂšlf]kk *@]Yl]\Gml\ggjHggdkoal`grgf]hmjaĂš[Ylagf /L]ffak;gmjlk Ca\kkoaeeaf_l]ffakd]kkgfk H]jkgfYdljYafaf_$h`qka[Ydl`]jYhq$[`ajghjY[lgj Ca\k;dmZ[`ad\[Yj] GYkak?jadd]hjg%k`gh #BZ-BVSFM1MBDFt"WJMB#FBDI(in the Avila Village) tXXXBWJMBCBZDMVCDPN

on the Central Coast

iven Family Wine Estates is a familyowned wine company based in the picturesque Edna Valley, in San Luis Obispo. The Niven Family pioneered grape growing in the Edna Valley, planting vines here in 1973. The family has since started making wine of their own and their portfolio now includes six successful brands: Baileyana, Tangent, True Myth, Zocker, Cadre and Trenza. With the help of veteran Burgundian winemaker Christian Roguenant, the family has become true innovators of the Central Coast.

Over the years the Nivens have discovered what wine styles and varieties truly shine in the Edna Valley, and with the help of Roguenant and his team, are able to make an incredible variety of wines from their estate

vineyard, Paragon. While Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are the star varietals for Baileyana; Tangent shows how crisp, vibrant white wine varietals can excel in this terroir. True Myth offers a beautiful Chardonnay from our estate vineyards and a Cabernet from just up the road in Paso Robles. Zocker displays how well German and Austrian varietals shine in the Edna Valley, with a Grüner Veltliner that has been named “Best New World Grüner” in a blind tast-

ing. Trenza and Cadre round out the selection with Spanish style new world blends and high quality estate reserve Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. These incredible wines can be tasted and purchased at the Niven Family’s tasting room, the historic Independence Schoolhouse, in Edna Valley. The schoolhouse, built in 1909, not only provides a charming atmosphere, but also an incredible variety of wines which

are sure to please any palate. Just outside the tasting room, guests are able to enjoy expansive picnic areas and bocce courts. After tasting through our portfolio, purchase a bottle of your favorite wine and take your picnic snacks outside to enjoy the beautiful views of our vineyards, or challenge your friends to a game of bocce! Come join us and find your favorite! We would love to have you.

bianchi winery

ocated in the central coast of Paso Robles, California, family-owned Bianchi Winery and Tasting Room was founded by father and son Joseph and Glenn Bianchi. After first investing in a vineyard in 1974 on the banks of the San Joaquin River in the central valley, the Bianchis officially called Paso Robles home in 2000.

Now run by Beau Bianchi, the grandson and son of Joseph and Glenn, along with Winemaker Tom Lane, the 40-acre state-of-theart winery utilizes advanced farming and production technologies, which has pioneered the vineyard to producing award-winning wine varietals. The acclaimed portfolio includes Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Petite Syrah,

Syrah, Zinfandel and honoring Bianchis’ Italian heritage, Refosco and Barbera wines. The Bianchi family has been involved in the California wine business for four generations dating back to the early 1900s. Carmelo Bianchi arrived on America’s shores from Italy in 1906. Despite Prohi-

bition, Carmelo sold homemade jug wines he made with the help of his eldest, Joseph whose siblings Bill and Ray would deliver in baskets tied to the handlebars of their bikes. Winemaking rubbed off on young Joseph. His love of wine led him to purchase a winery and vineyard in 1974 on the banks of California’s San Joaquin River, with his son Glenn. There, Joe became one of the first in the U.S. to try growing Italy’s famed Lambrusco grapes. Glenn eventually took on more and more responsibility at the winery, and soon yearned to produce ultra-premium varietal wines that had finesse and great complexity. Driven by this mission, Glenn began researching California’s best wine-growing regions. He soon discovered the exact parcel of land in the heart of Paso Robles. There Glenn purchased the 40 acres that would become the new Bianchi Winery. The fireplace-equipped wine tasting room, beautiful views of rolling vistas overlooking the estate vineyards and the Koi-stocked Lake all helped him to complete the picture and translate his dream into an unforgettable experience shared by thousands of year-round visitors annually.

Having assisted his Granddad and Father at the winery, Beau Bianchi easily stepped into his role as the family’s fourth generation wine entrepreneur. Beau’s overseen the addition of lush new varietals and scrumptious blends to the winery’s award-winning collection, and he’s harnessed digital communications tools to introduce Bianchi wines to an expanding global audience. Winemaker Tom Lane makes sure Bianchi Winery stays true to its origins and unwavering philosophy concerning quality. With as little human intervention as possible and utilization of the finest fruit Mother Nature provides – Estategrown grapes as well as those from select Central Coast vineyard sources – he’s produced a boldly inviting portfolio of wines that have captured the palates of leading critics and, just as importantly, Bianchi Winery’s loyal customers and partners. For more than a century and counting, the Bianchi family’s focus and commitment, like a great bottle of wine, continues to evolve and, most importantly, improve with age.
