2012 Calendar Manatee County, Florida

Manatee County Government www.mymanatee.org

About this year’s calendar: In September 2011, Manatee County Natural Resources asked local photographers to send their favorite images of Manatee County’s publicly owned natural preserves to be used in the 2012 wall calendar. More than 40 local photographers responded by submitting more than 400 photos. Each picture highlighted the incredible beauty of these beautiful areas. We think these photos are a reflection of the public’s affinity for Manatee County’s natural charm. The 2012 calendar is a sample of the photos that we selected as the best of the bunch. We hope you’ll enjoy these stunning sunsets, critter closeups and exquisite flora scenes as much as we did. Some of the images are truly breathtaking. This is the first year anyone can remember when we asked the public to submit artwork for the calendar. We were so pleased with your incredible photos that we’ve decided to continue the trend next year by asking you to send photos of a different kind. See below for details.

Manatee County Government 1112 Manatee Avenue West, Suite 902 Bradenton, Florida 34205 (941) 748-4501 tellus@mymanatee.org www.mymanatee.org www.facebook.com/manatee.county.fl

Another new twist on this year’s calendar are the QR codes you’ll spot on every monthly page. QR (Quick Response) codes are similar to the barcodes you see on just about every product you purchase in a store. When you scan or read a QR code with your iPhone, Android or other camera-enabled Smartphone, your camera will link you to more information about Manatee’s natural preserves on the web.

2013 Calendar: Calling all photographers and pet lovers! In 2011, Manatee Board of County Commissioners unanimously adopted a “no kill” plan which sets a goal to have a 90 percent save rate for all adoptable dogs and cats that come to Manatee County Animal Services. To help promote this great cause, we’ve decided to dedicate the 2013 Manatee County calendar to photos of the dogs and cats you have chosen to be a part of your families. We’re looking for fantastic photos of the pets you’ve adopted from Manatee County Animal Services and other Manatee shelters over the years. Photos chosen in the contest will be included in the calendar and all selected photographers will be given credit for their work. Contest guidelines: • Include with your submission: pet’s name and breed, if known, along with the name of the photographer. • Submit photos in .jpg format. No disks will be considered. • Minimum resolution at 300 dpi. • Limit five photos per photographer. • Only photos received during the month of June 2012 will be given consideration for the contest. • Send your photos to photos@mymanatee.org Winners will have their photos in the 2013 Manatee County Calendar and they will be notified via e-mail by July 13, 2012.

For more on Manatee County’s no-kill efforts or to pick out your family’s next dog or cat, visit www.mymanatee.org/pets or call (941) 742-5933.

The Manatee County School District had not finalized 2012-13 school dates by our publishing deadline, so they were not included in this year’s Manatee County Government calendar. This calendar was printed at an estimated cost of .48 cents per copy using the 2011-12 general revenue fund.
