To provide hope for the sick and disadvantage children of Simbu. To fund the medically ill children who require complex operation or medication not available locally. We believe every child deserves to feel loved, to be safe, to have opportunities for a better future and to know that there will always be someone to care for them. Every child deserves a bright beginning and the chance to determine the course of his or her own destiny

SCF RAISED K71,000.00 AT THE CHRISTMAS BALL We thank everyone who made the 2010 SCF Christmas Ball such a huge success by raising K71,000.00. This is one huge effort and thanks to all those that bought tables & tickets, auction item donors and bidders, those who pledged, those who made donations that evening and the major sponsor Komo Tuguba Development Corporation (KTDC). All were publicly acknowledged in our dailies.

At the Ball room

SCF wishes Brave Hearts 2010 farewell

The formal acknowledgement was published in “The National” on Friday 31st December. A copy can be seen on page 4 of this newsletter. It was very impressive to have a high quality auction items, some coming as far as Saudi Arabia in the Middle East. All items were displayed in the foyer with the colourful murals at the background, the wide variety attracted eyes & photographers and the mood was building energy like jet fuel ready for a blast come auction time. At the auction, the North Queensland Cowboys signed jersey raised the highest amount K5,500.00 which was bought by Linston Tinemau from Team Mt Hagen. During the auction everyone was bewildered when the auctioneer also bid for one of the items and of course everyone paused when time was up and it was sold to the auctioneer. This was all designed to be part of the amusement. The evening also saw the launching of two new songs composed by one of Simbu’s greatest singers who once was an house hold name in the PNG airwaves, Tom Lari. They were the SCF song and the Simbu Warriors song. The copy right was officially presented to SCF president for the SCF song and Simbu Warriors chairman for the Warriors song. AMOUNT RAISED AT THE BALL TICKET SALES = K40,000.00 KTDC SPONSOR = K15,000.00 AUCTION ITEMS = K9,900.00 PLEDGES = K3,000.00 DONATION = K3,700.00 TOTAL = K71,600.00

SCF CHRISTMAS BALL - EVENING PROGRAM

Guest Speaker Robert Agen giving his speech

Team Lihir - Terry can’t resist the Riesling

Team Madang - Dazzling colours

Team Tolukuma - Never cease to impress

The SCF song will go out for sale once copies are made available. The evening started late but took momentum when the sound system was finally fixed by our technicians. The door opened to everyone and as they entered, soft mountain flutes took them to their various tables. The tables were dressed with Simbu’s everlasting flowers, complimented with a bottle of Shiraz and a bottle of Riesling on either side. The program was opened with a word of prayer which was led by Peter Tala, father of little Grace Tala (one of Brave Hearts 2010). The SCF patron, Mr Jerry Kapka, followed with the welcoming remarks. That was followed by the SCF president highlighting SCF history and achievements, major part being the sponsoring of sick children with heart problems to the Operation Open Heart (OOH) in Port Moresby. That gathering was to farewell the children who successfully went through the OOH and the money raised from that evening would be used to send sick kids to the 2011 OOH. Though SCF did not get any funding from government or any other organisations, it was the heart of the Simbu people, friends, members, volunteers and supporters of SCF with that resilient heart to do something positive for the people that kept the fire alive. The coming of the guest speaker, Mr Robert Agen, all the way from England at his own expense was a clear evidence of the heart for the course. At his speech, he highly acknowledged the efforts of all those involved in SCF not for honour or praise but humbly to help the sick children in the rural villages. Like Robert, there were several others who flew in to attend the Xmas Ball, one of those was Team Western Australia led by Team Coordinator Ivan Mori. At the stage Ivan presented to the SCF President a set of keys. They were the keys for a 40ft container destined for PNG containing Ivan (left) sharing a light moment all kids items. Team Western Australia has really gone out of their way in 2010 to break lots of barriers to prove that it can be done, firstly they sponsored SCF president’s travel to Perth in October and then were able to load a 40ft container to PNG in December, what an extraordinary feat. Furthermore they have taken onboard the SCF website design and host for the next 3 years maintenance free. Thankyou Ivan and Team WA for your super efforts & willing hearts. 2011 will bring added challenge but lets not deter from our focus, there are silent voices who need us.

SCF CHRISTMAS BALL - DAY PROGRAM

Robert meets the Brave Hearts 2010

Robert makes a speech before cutting the Xmas cake

The children’s ward was completely decorated to give the sick children the feeling of Christmas, a time for sharing and caring and SCF was right there to do just that. The beauty about that was the involvement of SCF members & volunteers who came from across the country with the guest speaker, Mr Robert Agen, flying in from England. Robert met the Brave Hearts 2010 and after couple of photo shoots we headed to the children’s ward for the cutting of the cake. Dr John Tonar (Acting CEO) welcomed Robert and everyone to Kundiawa General Hospital Paediatric ward for that special occasion. Present at the ward were, Team Lihir, Team Simberi, Team Cutting of the SCF Xmas cake at the ward Western Australia, Team North West Queensland, Team Porgera, Team Tolukuma, Mrs KenGemar (Saudi Arabia) and an encouraging sight was the presence of students, Dominica Are, Cathy Karo and Vicky Kapka. These three students also added presents and food stuff for the kids at the ward, how beautiful was that...thankyou ladies. Robert before cutting the cake acknowledged everyone’s presence and encouraged the professionals and the students to continue the good spirit of caring for the sick. The children’s ward was always kept spotless and during that occasion we invited mama Paula, the cleaner of the children’s ward, to have the honour of cutting the cake with the guest speaker, Mr Robert Agen. Reps from the Very encouraging to see students involved various teams also gave few encouraging remarks before we distributed food and presents to all the kids in the ward. There were still plenty left so we visited the mother’s ward and the Isolation ward and shared with the patients in those two wards.

To see professionals and students taking time out and visiting the sick kids is the most heart nourishing thing one can ever do. Amongst all the thick and thin in life there is no better feeling than to make someone else happy and seeing their smiles. Thankyou Simbus, friends, members & volunteers of SCF for putting a smile on the sick kids at the children’s ward this Christmas.

Feedback from the Xmas Ball It was my first time to attend and I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it - Walter Tokam (Team Lae) I once again salute you for organising a successful evening of 18th December,2010. My words are insufficient and cannot express the joy, the excitement, and the uplifting of SCF moral even higher. My praise to those that assisted you with this mammoth task, which everyone there that evening , enjoyed to the fullest. ( I did).....Always bearing in mind SCF – the primary reason for the gathering, seeing Simbu’s giving selflessly for the worthy cause. I have nothing but praise and pride for you all. I am a proud Chimbu, and SCF has made me even more prouder. - Betty Kagl (Team Madang) I very very much involved my friends and family, which became very enjoyable to all of us, a Christmas get together for me. It was good to note that a few private companies bought tables for the event. - Ivan Mori (Team Western Australia) Ivan also pointed out certain areas that needed to be addressed hence Executives will look into that.

THANKYOU SCF brings fort the behind the scene struggle of a village dad who did everything to save his daughter only to realise there was no hope. The illness of his daughter was far beyond his means hence he turned to faith and his silent prayers were answered. When he thought he was alone, he was never alone. On the surface it might be stone but deep within, a unique heart exist, the lord moves in mysterious ways. - Bush Poet THANKYOU SCF Bush Poet

I thought I was fighting alone In this land of stone In and out of the hospital It was a constant battle She was my only daughter She was becoming weaker I exhausted all my resources Everything turned to ashes My hope was diminishing No one was willing To help or share Her innocent life I needed to spare But didn’t know what to do Or who to turn to? I leave it to the lord almighty And his answers are never empty I am told my daughter will fly I look to the sky Tears fill my eyes The answer to my cries Dawned when I least expected Tickets for my wife & daughter delivered My daughter went to the operation Operated by a specialist surgeon Her little heart touched And fixed My heart ache was over pain washed down the river I look up to the heavens Raised both hands And thanked the merciful lord All these I couldn’t afford I thought I was fighting alone In this land of stone But I know Now Its not the stones It’s the heart you placed in the stones It’s where love is defined And I’m blessed Thank you SCF
