ICE CLASS Fully converted into an Ice Class ship, Silver Cloud is now prepared to meet the challenge of Antarctica and the Arctic circle. With her ice-strengthened hull, she can navigate through ice floes and pack ice in complete safety. And distinctions such as five dining options and unrivalled service and space ratios ensure adventure travellers the exhilaration of exploring untrammelled destinations in unprecedented comfort and style. 8

The comfort you love After an extensive refurbishment, Silver Cloud will offer more gilt-edged refinements than you would ever expect on an ice-strengthened expedition ship in Antarctica. Along with five dining options, her service and space ratios are the highest in expedition cruising. And she is superbly designed to capture the magnificent scenery with

panoramic public rooms, broad decks, and verandas in most suites so that breaching whales or cavorting penguins are never far from view. Silver Cloud can carry up to 260 guests. But when in polar waters, we’ve chosen to limit the number of guests to 200. And with 18 new ZodiacsŽ and a team of 17 to 19 expedition experts, all guests can go exploring at the same time.

SHORE EXCURSIONS

Our voyages don’t stop at the shore. With up to 19 guides and a capacity of 260 guests, Silver Cloud’s Expedition Team-to-guest ratio is the highest in expedition cruising. It’s even higher in Antarctica where we’ve chosen to limit her complement to a maximum of 200 guests so that everyone can go exploring at the same time. Zodiac® Cruising, Wet and Dry Landings Hike across glaciers, trek the tundra, go Zodiac® cruising through ice-choked fjords and witness the remarkable: a massive, battle-scarred elephant seal guarding his harem, vast rookeries of tuxedoed penguins strutting their stuff, Blue-Footed Boobies with their amazing courtship rituals … record moments of a lifetime. You’ll travel in small groups, enjoying hands-on explorations and close-up encounters so that you are assured of a highly personalized sightseeing and learning experience. In polar regions we plan on two Zodiac® excursions every day. However please understand that weather and ice, not clocks and calendars, set the schedule for a journey in these latitudes, and no landing can be guaranteed. But if our forays ashore vary, the quality of your experience will not. Every mile will reveal something wonderful … astonishing. Go for the Wildlife An expedition with Silversea will immerse you immediately in your destination. One morning you could be cruising through the pack ice in search of polar bears, the next day hiking around waterfalls, Puffin-watching in grasslands or soaking in a steaming hot spring.

18

Every moment can amaze: a Wandering Albatross lifting its enormous wings to take flight, a humpback whale calf riding a swell on its mother’s back. The great outdoors is our playground, and we spend as much time as possible afloat a Zodiac® or ashore. Cultural Encounters Anthropologists, historians and other experts present background lectures and slide presentations to give you a cultural perspective of the local residents in the isolated communities we visit — the hunter-gathers who live in small settlements in the rainforests of Africa’s West Coast for example, or the Inuits of Greenland who live off the land just as their ancestors did hundreds of years ago. In the more remote areas, the infrastructure may be somewhat of a challenge, but you’ll be more than compensated with the enormous opportunities for genuine cultural exchange with these indigenous people.

OUR PARTNERS

Follow in the wake of Scott, Shackleton and Hilary. Silversea Expeditions and the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) have joined forces to spread knowledge collated from centuries of scientific exploration. Founded nearly 200 years ago to advance geographical science, the Society, whose patron is Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, will share some of the world’s most important geographical research and archive material. The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) is a respected professional body for geography and geographers and is one of the largest societies of its kind in the world, as well as the biggest in Europe. The Society has been a notable supporter and communicator of the work of explorers and scientists, including that of Charles Darwin, David Livingstone, Robert Scott, Sir Ernest

Shackleton and Sir Edmund Hillary. Dating back as far as 1472, there are more than two million items in the Society’s historic collection. Silversea Expeditions guests will benefit from a wide range of specialist visual and written content from the Society, enabling guests to learn even more about their expedition destination.

CANADA Magnificent scenery, incredible and abundant wildlife— gaze amazed at the untamed majesty of the vast Canadian territory of Nunavut. Sparsely populated it may be, but far from frozen wastelands, this region supports dense populations of wildlife, indigenous cultures, and historic vestiges of explorers long ago. Step back in time at the 11th-century Viking settlement at L’Anse aux Meadows. Experience what life was like in the French fortified town of Louisbourg. Look for minke, fin whale and dolphins, too, and admire the artistry of Jack Frost as he transforms the forested landscapes into the fiery colours of fall.

CANADA A TASTE OF YOUR ITINERARY • Pond Inlet – Pond Inlet is considered one of Canada's "jewels of the North". Several glaciers and mountain ranges nearby make this one of the most picturesque communities. • Beechey Island – fringed by a narrow beach, windswept and barren, Beechey Island is associated with the tragic Franklin Expedition looking for the Northwest Passage. • Iqaluit – Iqaluit is the capital of Canada’s newest territory, Nunavut -Inuktitut for “our land”. Nunavut is the least populated, but largest of Canada’s provinces and territories. • Kinngait (Cape Dorset) – without a doubt, Cape Dorset is the most famous Inuit art village in the Canadian North. • Akpatok – this uninhabited island lures huge amounts of wildlife, most notably the world’s largest population of breeding Thick-billed Murres, also known as Brünnich’s Guillemots (Inuktitut name: Akpatok). • L’Anse aux Meadows – the ruins of an entire Viking village in the New World some 500 years before Christopher Columbus and John Cabot. In 1978, this village was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. • Bonaventure Island – Bonaventure Island and Percé Rock National Park are home to the largest migratory bird refuge in North America. • Louisbourg – the Fortress of Louisbourg is known as the crown jewel of Canada’s national park service.

WEST COAST OF AFRICA Pity the early explorers. Unlike you, they had no chauffeur-driven 4x4 vehicles to traverse the desert dunes. They had no opportunities to fly low over seal colonies. Few spotted the endangered Damara Tern or sparring Namibian horses. You, however, have back-up on hand. Explore with our experts.
