Now it’s your turn! THE FAST OF JESUS
ave you noticed how the media can influence your attitude? Television, the Internet, films, magazines and even your group of friends can make you act, speak or dress in a way that is advertised to you through the media. The fact that there is a lot of publicity in this industry is not in vain. When we stop and think about certain things that we say or do, and we see the need to change, we tend to encounter barriers, because we are too focused on our everyday needs. We become deeply concerned with secular events, chit chat and information that is of no use to us. However, the Fast of Jesus is a way to help many of us in our personal journey of the human spirit and the Spirit of God. So it is important to refrain from secular information and entertainment, such as visits to the cinema, to focus solely on things from above, God’s Word and the Holy Spirit. “With promises like this to pull us on, dear friends, let’s make a clean break with everything that contaminate or distracts us, both within and without. Let’s make our entire lives fit and holy temples for the worship of God.”
2 Corinthians 7:1 (MSG)
WHAT IS THIS?
he “Fast of Jesus”, promoted by Succeed in Life Center & The Universal Church, is based on the biblical passage of Matthew 4, which describes the time that the Lord Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. He stayed there for 40 days without eating food such as meat, wine and other delicacies. In respect of the SiLC, the food that the participants will abstain from will be secular information, music, television and all forms of entertainment that surrounds us everyday. Between June 10 and July 19, participants will turn off all attractions of this world, devoting themselves solely to spiritual things, in order to receive the Holy Spirit and receive spiritual growth. This campaign is open to everyone who wishes to be born of God and wants to be committed to Him. For those who wish to participate, here are a few ways to feed yourselves spiritually, apart from meditating on the Word of God:
• Read the blogs of Bishop Macedo, Ester Bezerra, Bishop Renato Cardoso, Cristiane Cardoso, Bishop David, Ms Evelyn and other bishops of the SiLC & The Universal Church • Read the Bible, Church Books, watch biblical films, etc.
So if you want to get rid of the things that distract you from attaining the fullness of life through having a true encounter with God, do not miss out on this movement of faith.
Will you participate in the Fast? Attend the Church’s services as much as possible, at 10am, 4pm or 7pm; follow the examples given and take very seriously this purpose. Don’t give up! You can do it! Let’s walk this faith journey together!
