Urban Transformation of the Atatürk Airport Education + 2017-2018 Spring Term Alişan Çırakoğlu Tansel Korkmaz Transfer of istanbul atatürk airport raised a big discussion of what will be built in the emptied area. A design proposal was expected for this 12km2-area which is neighboring the provinces Ataköy, Yeşilköy and Yeşilyurt. The university education in Istanbul has been trapped in classrooms and lecture halls. In order to provide an educational infrastructure, the spaces/central points are designed for universities where common areas and experience fields are getting smaller. Moreover, these spaces/central points can be used by people from various departments/ universities to produce, create and study together.

According to Istanbul, it was determined that there were not enough rehearsal and exhibition spaces of conservatories and art schools. It was proposed to use the hangars and the structures that will settle on the concrete floors as art ateliers.
Education Buildings tram
It is expected that research and education buildings will be located on the road where the tram line. Priority was given to using existing structures. It is anticipated that these structures may increase as needed.
Library & Exhibition Center
It is thought that the library, which is the most important unit of the education-research center, is constructed in old domestic flight building. This area will also be used for public exhibitions where researches are exhibited.
The area where the aviation museum is located has been redesigned to increase public spaces. Concrete floors were used for museum buildings and exhibition areas.
Istanbul University Faculty of Architecture 2017-2018 Fall Term Alişan Çırakoğlu Tansel Korkmaz
The project was designing an architecture faculty building for Istanbul University in Vezneciler region. Regarding this, detailed historical analysis of historical peninsula region was carried out. At the same time, the concept of how the architectural education should be was questioned. These research and analyses determined the theme and design process of the project.
The Faculty of Architecture of Istanbul University is comprised of craft workshops, classrooms, studio structure and student center constructions. The open-studio decision has been adopted in this building where architectural studios are located. The building where the classrooms are located separately from the studios. Many masters and craftsmen such as wooden masters, glass masters, ceramic artists are located in the ateliers. In this case, students have the opportunity to be in contact with the material, to understand the technique of the material and to observe the production stages. There is a student center in the faculty where students can conduct social activities. In this structure, it connects directly to the square.

Etiler Anatolian Hotel Management and Tourism Vocational High School 2016-2017 Spring Term İdil Erkol Devrim Çimen
In this semester, our task was working on Etiler Anatolian Hotel Management and Tourism Vocational High School. Like many public schools with relatively large plots in the city center, this school is under pressure. It potentially runs the risk of being relocated to a less central and less valuable land, in order to give way to the redevelopment of its plot as high-end housing, offices, and retail by private enterprise. This pattern is well established in today’s İstanbul. Yet the Tourism Vocational School and its hotel is well suited to this site, architectural program of the project was based on improving and keeping these functions, albeit in new buildings.
Traditional agricultural economy shifted towards USA-supported industry and drastic immigration from villages to cities occurred after the World War II in Turkey. Construction of Bosphorus Bridge and FSM Bridge completed in 1970 and 1982. The effects of the bridge construction are explicitly seen when looking at the structuring process of Levent region which is just in the middle of the two bridges.
Many shopping malls are located in public areas in Istanbul. Although the citizens suffer from lack of green areas in public space, there are several shopping malls around the city.

Moda Sport Complex 2016-2017 Fall Term TĂźlin Hadi Ozan Ă–ztepe
The task was designing a sports complex with semi-olympic swimming pool in Moda district. The coplex was designed with the idea of demographic diversity in Moda because of the population of different ages and point of views. The courtyard between the buildings was connected to the sea side and an alternative passage area was established.
Moda and Fenerbahçe shores
Moda has retained its residential urban character for years, due to its relatively secluded position within Kadıköy, in Istanbul.
increasing the number of developer around the Kadıköy
Recently, the number of people from outside Moda who spend time in cafes, bars, restaurants, and parks of the neighborhood have dramatically increased, especially during the weekends. This popularity resulted in the raise in the number of businesses, but not necessarily in the number of public facilities.
The spaces where people can spend their time has been designed in the field. 33
The space A1 could be either a practice area for a theatre company, or a place to study for a student group. The space A2 is not typical library, but a place to trade books without the supervision of a guard of any kind. Here books can be donated or borrowed. The space B is for the changing rooms of the swimming pool.
The space C1 is directly connected with the courtyard and includes playroom and cafe. Seating for the cafe exist also on the terrace in order to see the view. The space C2 is where the class, gym and infirmary find place. In the gym section, there is seperated by a glass wall designated to step-yoga area. The entrance to the stands of the indoor swimming pool is also from here. The space C3 is where the dressing rooms and indoor semi-olympic pool area.

Adatepe Kitchen 2015-2016 Spring Term Evren Aysev UÄ&#x;ur Can Erol
Adatepe is an old Greek village located in Çanakkale. After the forced imigration of the Greeks, the number of Turkish locals has gradually decreased due to the changing living conditions. The village has become popular once again when a group of friends from Istanbul discovered there. In this project, our task was designing a public building for a type of production that will be realized collaboratively by the local people of village and the outsider or latecomers.
The natural atmosphere and the elements that create it should be studied. These elements can be the topographic and geological characteristics, water sources, flora and fauna, seasonal changes, climatic factors, sun-light, dominant winds, etc...

For the other sections we used a screw called allen. Also for aesthetic purposes we used bamboo pieces on these screws. We aimed a good visual relationship between wood join and bamboos.
While the designing process we deformed the two sections of triangles on the x, y, z coordinats. After the deformation our macroform was created. We combined our sections with the method of dovetail joint. Also we used a screw when we combined the sections that touches each other.
We compounded our macroforms with two tie rods from down. Thus with our variational macroform the flatness of tie rods disappeared on the top.
Mesudiye Landscape Workshop - Participant On August 8-13, 2015, we carried out a landscape workshop in the village of Mesudiye in Datรงa with 5 HiM members, thirteen university students, villagers, and volunteers who were involved. We worked in groups as alternating teams for simultaneous advancement of applications. Tires, pallets, etc. collected from the village with an announcement we made before, are used to experiment to create seating units and tables to be used in the school garden. At the same time, we created a connecting element for the one and a half meter height difference that divides the garden into two. The old stone school nearby, which has a longer history than the converted school, with one-room, no roof and no chimneys is also dealt within the workshop. It is cleaned and organized to create an open-air usage. https://herkesicinmimarlik.org/en/calismalar/mesudiye-landscape-workshop/

City Leftover - Participant Herkes İçin Mimarlık Derneği – HiM (Architecture for All Association), (2011, İstanbul); is a platform where student volunteers and professionals can come together and bring social problems encountered in the country and the world in a creative way to the agenda, raise awareness about these problems and act to produce solutions from the fields of architecture and design. In urban and rural areas, it wants to increase the awareness of architecture in society by encouraging participatory mechanisms that are lacking in the design, planning and construction processes of the projects.
We started a workshop series called “City Leftover” in March 2017 as a part of our 5th year events “Invisible”. The workshop “City Lerftover” makes a call to document and analyse urban fragments which are out of function and reach because of various planning and design decisions, temporary or permanent interventions, abandonment and similar reasons. In the workshops, where the students and graduates from different disciplines participate, various subjects such as the definition of the city and the surplus, contemporary urban issues and related representation techniques are discussed with the participation of guest speakers. Various productive works such as documentation of the surplus areas, production of stories and participatory design tools are realized. It’s aimed to gather these productions on an online map to create data in order to understand and discuss the current situation of cities. City Leftover #2 İstanbul
