Sika Industry

Sika AG

Sika's history starts with a huge construction project: the electrification of the Gotthard railway tunnel. For this once-in-alifetime event, the company, which was established in 1910, was able to demonstrate its competence for the very first time by taking part in a construction program of international importance: with a completely new type of mortar for sealing and for protection against the ingress of water.

2

Since being established by Kaspar Winkler, Sika has become a globally operating company offering specialty chemicals for the construction and industry sector.

More than 12,000 employees in over 70 different countries work on solutions to problems that occur during the development of new products. Sika's annual turnover amounts to more than CHF 4.5 billion. Sealing, bonding, damping, reinforcing and protecting loadbearing structures are the core competencies of Sika and are made use of in a wide range of applications in the construction and industry sector.

System solutions from Sika are therefore to be found in nearly all walks of life – in homes and on buildings, in road vehicles and trains and on sea-going vessels as well.

Innovation, Dynamic, Progress

Certainty from experience Sika has been accumulating experience in the manufacture of resin systems made of polyurethane and epoxy resin since the middle of the 20th century. This tradition has generated the experience and know-how that Sika employees have acquired over many years. The result is that our customers can always be certain of receiving products that are reliable in respect of the purpose for which they are used.

6

Continuous development in close contact with the customer However, no company can rely solely on experience and knowhow. In conjunction with our customers, we strive to develop ourselves further and continually improve our work and our products. As a result of innovations, work processes are simplified or properties are achieved that were previously not possible.

More safety, stability and strength. Especially in professional sports, the requirements for the materials used are extremely important. Wherever human will decides to challenge the laws of physics and aims to achieve the apparently impossible, innovative solutions are called for.

All over the world we are using the feedback from our customers and constantly work with new raw materials and methods to design high-quality products for the future.

Thinking about tomorrow today

Environmental management at Sika

Solutions are made up of many disparate components. In a team of specialists, even highly demanding projects can be completed quickly and with success. What is crucial, however, is having the right products as well as competent advice.

Our sales consultants and the specialists from our technical department help our customers to select the right products and the optimum application. In special training courses, our customers have an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the materials and try out applications. Even in complete service projects, Sika provides support. This result in partnerships on the way to the discovery of new solutions.

Our behaviour and the work we do today lay the foundations for our future. In order to leave our children an environment that is worth living in, new ideas are needed, not just once but continually – ideas for:

Behind these ideas are employees who dedicate their daily work to the achievement of these goals – Sika employees. An extensive environmental management system helps them to do this, certified to DIN EN ISO 14001. For some years now, Sika has also been proactively implementing REACH, the new law on chemicals. The aim of this new uniform EU-directive on substances is to improve the protection of people and the environment against the effects of these substances and, above all, to assess and reduce the risk involved in their use along the entire supply chain.
