Shmooze Week four

July 25, 2011

WEEK FOUR IN REVIEW We jumped right into Week 4 Dancing to the Disco Beat and learning about the Value of "Celebration/Simchah." Camp divisions participated in all types of music and dance party activities and ended the week with an AWESOME CAMP CARNIVAL CELEBRATION that raised approxiomately $1500 to support camp scholarships (thank you for your generous donations!). CIT's were amazing at supervising the carnival booth games and entertained the campers posing as Spiderman and Teao the Moose. The week started off strong with Powerhouse Studio's Wild & Wacky Challenge where campers and staff got "pied", competed in crazy challenges like throwing rubber chickens into pots and the BEST OF ALL - CAMPERS GOT SLIMED BY A BOOGIE BLASTER! Campers earned their fourth dog tag for engaging in celebratory events such as the KTon Ton "Character Disco" and Unbirthday Party" at which the kids partied and sang to all, Camp Shalom's Dance Fever Party where campers did not stop displaying their best dance moves, Camp Chalutz and Independence celebrating a Bar/Bat Mitzvah BASH which included the Hora, and Camp Maccabiah displaying INCREDIBLE camper and staff talent in Macc Idol! Nesiyah (Teen Travel) campers visited Hershey Park and had their first camp overnight and Marvin's campers got to extend their fun filled camp day with a SURPRISE LATE NIGHT movie and munchies! What a GREAT week!

The Weekly Shmooze

JEWISH VALUE OF THE WEEK: SIMCHAH - HAPPINESS & CELEBRATION The Hebrew word Simchah, connotes both exuberant rejoicing and a general state of well being. Exuberant celebration is best expressed by words like exulting, merriment, and jubilation. In comparison, a general state of well being is best conveyed by terms like happiness, optimism, and contentment with one’s lot. At camp, we strive to instill in our children both aspects of Simchah – moments of exuberant celebration and an ongoing state of happiness. This past week we experienced the highs of The Wild and Wacky Challenge show, a disco party, the Macc Idol Talent show, an Un-birthday party, our annual Camp carnival, and trips to great places like Hershey Park, Keansburg Amusement Park, and a Mets game. We also experienced on our beautiful campsite the ongoing activities that ultimately make camp the magical place that it is – swimming, boating, sports, music, dance, arts and crafts, cooking, nature, and Israel culture. Most important of all, under the guidance of our caring and compassionate counselors, the children forged new friendships. The Talmud puts it this way: Three things restore a person’s spirit: beautiful sounds, sights, and scents.

Chalutz celebrating and learning about Bar/Bat Mitzvahs Maccabiah campers and counselors performing their favorite songs at Macc Idol Teao stops by for a visit during our camp carnival!
