Dear CLLD Participants, On behalf of the Center for Life Long Development (CLLD) at the JCC, I want to say thank you to all our current and new participants for being part of our program. We are so excited to be able to bring this program to you and hope that you get to experience all that the program has to offer. We have received remarkable feedback on this second semester and are eager to present to you all of the changes we made to make this program even better! Some of these improvements include changes in the registration process, the Program Guide itself (see next page), extending the number of classes offered per session, expanding some of the classes to accommodate more participants, and offering more sessions of the well-attended classes. In addition, we will be changing the courses from a 2-month session to a 4-month session beginning July 2012. Each center of excellence has a volunteer-driven committee which steered the direction of the programming presented in this Program Guide. If you are interested in joining one of these committees, please come into the CLLD office, and a friendly member of our staff will be glad to get you on board! If you have not yet been contacted by our staff, you will receive a call shortly to help you complete the DFTA-required intake and comprehensive health assessment in order to track your participation and progress in this program. We hope that you continue to enjoy your experience with us and if I, or any of our staff, can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to stop into the CLLD office! Sincerely, S LYMPIC O R O I SEN URSES O C P E PR GUST U A Y JUL

REGISTRATION FOR CLLD CLASSES AND PROGRAMS Important—In an effort to streamline the registration process, registration will not be done in person for the July-October session. Please read carefully and follow the instructions to assure that your registration is correctly filled out and submitted in time. Classes will begin July 16 and end on October 19 (14 weeks total). Please note the class dates in the program guide as the number of sessions may differ from class to class. Step #1: It is important to review the program guide and register for classes that you are most interested in, keeping in mind that we would like to accommodate as many members as possible. During the last two sessions, many participants signed up for classes that they did not attend. Remember that we have only a limited number of slots for each class. Please be considerate of your fellow participants and register only for classes that you will attend. Step #2: Review and fill out the registration form. On the form there is an option to select 1st and 2nd choices. Please make sure that you indicate both. Step #3: The deadline for returning the registration forms is Friday, July 6. You must return the form in person to the front desk at the Joan & Alan Bernikow JCC Building (you may also have a friend or family member return the form on your behalf). When returning the form you will be asked to sign the list of enrollees (just as you do when you attend class or lunch). Your signature will be the only proof that you have submitted your registration form. If you wish to be processed with your spouse, partner or significant other, please staple your forms together. Step #4: To assure fairness for all participants, a computer program will randomly select participant numbers. If your registration is submitted by the July 6th deadline, your CLLD number (bracelet number) will be input into a computer software program and the program will randomly select the sequence of all those registration numbers. Please note: No registration forms will be accepted after the July 6th deadline. Based on the first letter of your last name, and if you feel you need assistance, please come to the lobby area outside the CLLD office where volunteers will be able to assist you with the registration from 10AM-3PM. The schedule for assistance is: Monday, July 2: A-E Thursday, July 5: M-R Tuesday, July 3: F-L Friday, July 6: S-Z Step #5: Confirmations can be picked up outside the CLLD office on Thursday, July 12 (A—L) and Friday, July 13 (M—Z) between the hours of 10am—3pm. Please note no changes will be made until classs begin on Monday, July 16. Again, classes for the next semester begin on Monday, July 16 and end on Friday, October 19. Please remember to note the class dates in the program guide as the number of sessions may differ from class to class. We thank you in advance for following these policies and procedures. If you have any questions, please contact our Senior Program Coordinator, Neshama Marcus, at 718.475.5289 or nmarcus@sijcc.com

Welcome to the Joan and Alan Bernikow Jewish Community Center We are pleased and excited to have you visiting our building as you take part in the wonderful new Innovative Senior Center named the Center for Life Long Development. Whether you use the pool for a water aerobics class, “trek” through our Fitness Center or enjoy dinner and then dance to the music of Frank Sinatra, you’ll find our modern facility easy to navigate and our staff welcoming and eager to help. If you are curious about having access to all the JCC has to offer on your own schedule, be sure to stop by the Membership Office and speak to Jill Gottlieb, our JCC Membership Director. She’ll be happy to explain your options and the benefits of becoming a platinum member at the JCC which includes our Summer Swim Club and full use of health and fitness facilities.

Social Service Programs at the JCC The JCC functions as a human services agency committed to enhancing the physical, intellectual and spiritual wellness of the individual, family and community. We provide health, cultural and educational programs that serve the community at large, with special attention given to populations at risk. Among the many programs the JCC administers are Case Management Services, which provide older homebound adults and their families a case manager to help navigate the maze of services to develop individual care plans. We also offer Caregiver Services for adults caring for elderly spouses and parents with physical or cognitive disorders as well as a program for Grandparents as Caregivers. Our Kosher Meals on Wheels program delivers meals to the elderly homebound while providing vital help and contact to these isolated individuals. In addition to all these DFTA supported programs, the JCC provides services and programs for over 30,000 individuals and supports over 600 young families on Staten Island with day care, afterschool care, tutoring and related services. If you would like to contribute or support any of these vital services, please contact Kevin Brosnick, Director of Individual Giving at 718.475.5256 or kbrosnick@sijcc.com.
